I am looking for any information on The Grand Californian hotel, what to expect, fun things to do etc... We are going to be staying there for 5 days in June and have never stayed at a Disney property before, though we have stayed at other nearby hotels MANY times, we are VERY excited about this trip and want to make the most of it. Any tips?:D
Hi MOUSELUVR, and welcome to MousePad!
I'm sure a number of folks will want to share their personal experiences with you here, but in the meantime, you can:
Visit all of the various articles and trip reports (http://www.google.com/custom?q=%22grand+californian+hotel%22&cof=AH%3Acenter%3BS%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.mouseplanet .com%3BAWFID%3A6b17827e96feb012%3B&domains=mouseplanet.com&sitesearch=mouseplanet.com) here on MousePlanet about the Grand Californian, and you can also read our user-submitted reviews (http://www.mouseplanet.com/cgi/reviews/do/display.cgi?product-sku=dlrgc) of the hotel here as well.
Have a wonderful time! They've got really nice facilities there, from the pool, the fitness center, and the always popular Whitewater Cafe (for sating those munchies).
There are reviews on the GCH here on MP under the "Disneyland Section". There's also a nice tour of the hotel when it first opened done by the staff of MP. There are also many threads about the GCH here on the pad-think it should work if you used "search" to pull them up.
Tip: request a room close to the elevator if walking is at all a problem for anyone in your party. There is only one elevator and the hallways are l-o-n-g.
Tip: don't move anything in the mini-bar unless you want to pay for it. Even if you don't take it out, just simply move it-you will be charged. You can request a fridge-think rules say "$5 per day" but we were never charged. You can request that the mini-bar be locked up.
Tip: take the free tour of the hotel-given daily by the staff. Lots of history and inside knowledge stuff. If you have kids, do the storytime with Chip n' Dale-fun for kids, relaxing time for parents. Also if you have kids, truly consider Pinochinno's Workshop. Kid's club-think it's $4 an hour and open to GCH guests first. Adrienne K. did a column under the "Parenting in the Parks" section.
It's truly an awe-inspiring hotel. Enjoy!
