I sat down for a moment and got distracted when I realized a bottle of water was leaking into my bag, set the camera down, went to take a picture about an hour later and raced back to the bench where I had been sitting. Of course, it was long gone. Asked at neighboring attractions, City Hall, and Lost & Found - nothing. I filled out a form but I don't hold out much hope.

This just makes me so sad. I have made more trips to Lost & Found then I could possibly count over the years, turning in items large and expensive (like an iPhone) and small and seemingly insignificant, but probably meaningful to the person who lost it. My daughter found a cute Disney Princesses pin designed as a castle with doors that opened to reveal the Princesses. She said "look what I found!" and started to put it on. I asked her how she'd feel if she lost one of her favorite Disney accessories. She said she'd feel bad, so off we went to turn it in.

Anyway...I would never even think of keeping something like a well-worn older model digital camera with a memory card holding around 200 personal photos (at least half of them at DL and CA).

There is an element that has arrived during the last 5-10 years at the Parks that I never thought I'd see outside of Magic Mountain and Knott's. I'm not going to go into my theories of why this has happened at "The Happiest Place On Earth". Part of it is just the way society is going downhill in general, but that's only part of it. A major part lie$ on the shoulder$ of hideou$ly poor deci$ion$ made by management to lure more and more visitor$ into the Park$.

Some of those pics can be replaced, sort of, but not the time and moment they were taken. Many can never be replaced, ever.

That really sucks about your camera, sorry to hear that.

I have only been coming regularly for the past 3 or 4 years, but I would imagine even back in the 80's or 90's there were many a camera taken by dishonest people. Could be wrong, I dont really have any reference to compare. When I used to come in the 80's alot I was the one being pushed in a stroller...

Thanks. Believe it or not, there is a big difference now, long-time CMs have confirmed it. I never thought I'd have to watch my back all the time at DL, but I do just because of what I've seen and heard. I'm pretty sure someone has laughed at all my personal family pictures and congratulated themselves on getting a free camera, rechargeable batteries, and a 2MG memory card out of it.

And as for you being pushed in a stroller in the '80s...you must be an awfully young twin daddy! ;)

Well, the early 80's I suppose. Born in 79'

I for one wouldnt mind Disney being more proactive in security. I am sure we dont see 95% of what they do, but sometimes you want them to see you. You want the bad guys to know you are watching.

I am not sure how that would be best accomplished, hard to say. I still dont run into nearly the societal issues at DL than I have at state parks, malls, and the world in general.

UGH I am so sorry!!! :crying: My stomach turned when I read that, mainly because of the photos. Personally, the loss of family photos (especially at DL!) would kill me so much more than losing the camera itself no matter how expensive. :(

Here's hoping that there is still a chance you could be susprised and have it returned! You never know...

Oh, thank you both for the sympathy and well-wishes. I just started crying when I read what PoomShanka wrote, I actually started to cry at both City Hall and Lost & Found and was saying, "All I really want is the card! They can keep the camera, do you think they might bring the card in?" Both CMs said that everybody says that exact same thing.

Ow, the pain. :(

There might still be hope. A few years back I lost my wallet. I did not notice that I did not have it till I got to the parking structure. This was at about 12:30AM. I raced back to lost & found and filled out a form. I called the next day and they said that they had it and already mailed it out to me. I got it the next day. The wallet was ruined though. I think it fell into a planter and got wet.

We have lost many things, including several phones, at Disneyland. Except one, all have eventually been returned to us. Even when Lost and Found said it wasn't there, phones have been mailed back. Don't give up hope yet. It sometimes takes a day to get to Lost and FOund and logged into the system.

Like others have said, dont give up hope. We've had things mailed back to us before too. And people aren't all bad. We always turn things in if we find them. I lost my camera a couple years ago, but was lucky enough to get it back right away! Here's my thread..... (http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showthread.php?t=121564&highlight=lost+camera) I know that sinking feeling when you realize it's gone and all you can think of is the pics that are lost! :crying: I really hope you get it back.

I'm so sorry about the lost camera! I agree with the others...don't give up hope yet. Maybe it wasn't logged in to Lost and Found yet.

I still believe that almost all people would turn in a lost camera. My DD has lost her cell phone twice, and both times it has been turned in to the lost and found at the place it was lost.

I sure hope it is returned to you!!

My heart sank when I read the title....I lost a camera once...same thing, photos that were absolutely once in a lifetime, I hope you get your camera back!

Awww, I'm so sorry! I'm holding out hope that it will show up. Maybe somebody stuck it in their stroller basket to turn in, then forgot until the last minute. Or, maybe somebody turned it in at a ride, and it didn't make it up to Lost & Found until very late. I'd like to think there are more people who would turn it in than wouldn't, and am keeping my fingers crossed!

Don't give up hope yet! On my last trip, on our 3rd day in the park I took my kids to the bathroom and sat my brand new camera down on the counter to help them wash their hands, then promptly walked out of the bathroom without my camera. About 10 minutes later I realized I had down this and went running back, and of course there was no camera.

I was so upset! This was my kids 1st time in Disneyland, and my husband had to stay home for work so we were taking LOTS of pictures. I went to City Hall, I went to all the little shops near the bathrooms, we went all over. 3 days later my camera still hadn't turned up, I was so mad thinking someone had "stolen" it. I didn't care about the camera, I just wanted those pictures so bad.

That night I dreamed that my dad (who had passed away a year earlier) phoned me at the hotel to tell me to stop worrying, I would get my camera back. It was weird lol but sure enough 2 days later I thought what the heck and went to check the lost and found 1 last time before we went home....and my camera was there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was sooooooo happy. They told me sometimes it takes a few days for it to actually show up there and get entered in. (They also said if it shows up after you are gone, they mail it to you)

I hope you have a similar experience and get it back! There are honest people out there :)

I'm so sorry. I totally understand that sick feeling at the loss of memories. We had our video camera stolen after my husband left it on a bench. It was there just about 10 minutes after we realized it was missing. We checked every day for a week to see if it ever got turned in. No luck. This was on the 1st day of our trip so not a lot memories were made just yet. So I was angry with having to get money to replace it later but more mad about not being able to record the memories we were going to make that week. I had the digital camera though so we got "still" memories at least. I really, really, really hope it turns up soon:)

We don't seem to have good luck with video cameras at DL. Another year ours just stopped working-again at the start of the trip. So for 2 Christmas' within 3 years my in-laws have bought us a new video camera. Just this Sept my husband set the camera down when we got our picture taken with 4 characters at the Teacups. Then we went on the Teacups and he realized it was missing before the ride started. He got off and this time we got lucky. It was still behind the Mad Hatter.

And I agree society is on a downward spiral.

Awwww, I just knew the Padders would get it. :) That's why I posted my sad story here. Thank you, thank you, from the bottom of my heart, even if I don't get the camera back (but I really really really REALLY hope I do).

I love itsKim's story! I truly believe your dad came to you in that dream because he couldn't stand to see his little girl so upset. It doesn't sound weird to me at all! (But I'm pretty weird, so...)

My daughter has been telling me over and over that she believes that some nice person found it and we'll get it back, and that she's keeping her fingers crossed. She's actually been walking around with them crossed most of the time. :p She's so cute.

I'm going to force myself not to be so pessimistic. It would sure help restore my faith that there are still lots of good people out there!

Oh that is a bummer! I too am sending some good vibes that it will turn up.

I have heard many more good stories of things turning up after a few days than bad stories - and the one that didn't get a lost item back was one of our good friends who lost his "Governator" hat insert your own joke here LOL!

Ouch, Been there done that, but luckily not with a camera which I'm very protective of. It's definitely heart wrenching on losing something that's very personal to you and may not seem that personal to the person who had found the camera. Knock On Wood and keeps your hopes up on getting your camera back.

Sorry to hear about your camera, I know I would be devastated too losing those memories. I hope your camera returns beck to you safely with all the pictures intact.

Not to go sideways with this thread but I think you hit the nail on the head about how the crowd at DLR has changed over the past 5 or so years. A few years ago we (my wife, 3yr son and I) were at DL and went on TMAoWP and parked my son's stroller to the right of the entrance. Let me say that this was a crowded day, a little above average crowd. Anyways after exiting the ride we did what we always do and look through the Pooh shop, then headed back to our stroller. What did we find NO stroller, so I walked the whole CC area to see if it was accidently moved so many strollers look the same I figured that this could happen, even though ours is all marked up with Disney Cars and Spiderman stickers that my son put on it. No luck it was gone, so when I got back to the area where our stroller should have been we spotted a DL Security Official and reported to him as we were reporting it another family overheard and also wanted to report that there stroller was taken from the same area too. Once the DL Security got the information of both our strollers missing and the description they called it out over their radios as a BOLO (Be on the Look Out). The DL Security Officer was escorting us and the other family to their main office on Main St to fill out a report and as we were walking he was explaining to us that within the past few years there has been an increase on thefts at DLR and the stroller steeling is the most popular. At this point we were at HM and another security person radio over that they found a stroller that matched the other families description they gave over by FTL entrance off of Main St so that family rushed off over that way. So we are still walking to the office and I happen to look over by the French Marker restaurant and see our stroller parked there. I ran over and sure enough it was ours. It had all our stuff still in it, nothing missing thank goodness! The other family not so lucky, it turned out to be there stroller but they lost expensive sunglasses and items that they purchased in the park.
Apparently what these thieves do is sit and watch people drop off strollers and get on the attraction then they take off with your stroller going through all your bags looking for anything of value then they dump your stroller somewhere else in the park. They security officials think it could be a family that obviously has an AP because it happens so often or it is a bunch of kids just being juvenile for their own kicks to get spending cash for their daily trips to DLR. Whatever the theory it still sucks no matter who or whom it is.

The reason that we were so upset is that we drove all the way from N. Cal for this trip and our son has Type1 Diabetes and he needs to get shots regularly and the insulin, needles, blood testing kit was all in the backpack left in the stroller. It was late and I do not believe a pharmacy would have been open that late to get back up supplies.

We learned a valuable lesson that night to never ever leave ANYTHING in our stroller, also to bring a set of back up medical supplies with us and leave it at the hotel room.:)

Well, no news yet. I haven't called L&F, partly because I figure it might be too soon for it to have been logged in and also I'm just not in the mood to hear bad news today...I'm kind of a chicken that way.

DisneyFunFamily4, I just noticed your link to your thread (I'm not always the most observant person, especially when I'm upset) and it also gave me more hope about getting the camera back eventually. Especially since it seems weeks and even months can go by before you go out the door and there's a package from DLR.

TRON, yep, what the CMs told you was kind of the same thing they told me, and one CM specifically mentioned the cheaper AP options and monthly payments for some of the problems. He said he thinks there are scam artists who feel like they've hit a goldmine with that kind of access to a place where they can easily score lots of stuff, make a quick getaway, and rarely get caught. Maybe it was even the same CM who talked to you.

Anyway, I'm still keeping a positive thought!

sooooo sorry and wanted to cry just reading the story. Two months ago my iPhone slipped out of my pocket in a bathroom stall at Macys and went back 45 min later and of course it was never turned in. I couldnt believe with all of the family pictures I had on that phone including one of my two daughters as the screensaver that someone is just so heartless as not to give a damn even after seeing something like that and then 1 year ago I was working on an editing project and my computer crashed and I lost over 1,000 family photos that I stupidly hadnt backed up including baby pics of both my girls....photos that can NEVER be replaced so I know the sinking feeling in your heart when you truly realize what you lost. Im so sorry for the thoughtfulness and just cold hearted people who only give a damn about themselves and either getting something for themselves or selling it for money like its nothing. I wish there were more people in the world that just gave a damn about integrity.

At least you will always have those moments in your heart whether or not you have the photo!!

Hope and praying that you'll get you camera returned in the mail! I also lost an item and reported it to Lost & Found, got home and checked the mail and after about 10 days it arrived! I hope your camera and memory card do the same.

I left my camera in our rental stroller once. The worst part was that our park tickets were in the bag and we had only used 2 out of the 5 days. Fortunately a CM found it and it was at the Lost and Found.

Hold out hope, it may still be returned to you.
