Does anyone have info re the Star Tours upgrade and what will be done to one of my favorite attractions? I just realized I put this in the wrong forum. My apologies.

They're adding a loop....
Jk
From what we know there will be
More than one Planets you can visit (also multiple paths you can go, random)
It will be in 3D
The Q will have new audio/video's and new stuff will be added
Rumors
The roof will have a screen added to it so you can look up during the ride and see more
New effects added to the theaters (smells and new lighting effects)
Hope this gives you an idea of what they're doing

Rumors aside; yes, there will be multiple destinations and it will be in 3D. According to Disney, guests will rarely, if ever, see the same show twice.

Also, the new Star Tours will be set in-between episodes 3 and 4.

I love the original ride, but I keep wondering if ST2 will have more experienced pilots... ;)

The new pilot will be Jar Jar. ;)
Yes, I'm kidding.

I myself have been wondering about the new pilot.
I hope that they have a character that is just as fun as Rex.
In the Main Street Opera House, there are pictures of what looks to be concept art for the new droid pilot. The designs look similar to Rex (three-arms, similar head, etc) but clearly is is not the same character (which makes sense given the new ride's time-line)
Of all of the the aspects of the new Star Tours, the new droid pilot is very intriguing to me.
I really hope that more info is released soon!

The other thing I wonder is- when will ST2 open @ both parks (Simultaneously on May 20th?) and what is the plan for WDW's Star Wars Weekends 2011?
I booked a trip arriving Thursday May 19th for 4 nights but am torn on how long to hold off on buying airline tix. Part of me wants to wait until some hopefully credible date rumors come out, but even that may be too late for the best price deals. I expect some web specials to start showing up soon... (I can't wait until official dates because the best discount fares from AirTran are very likely to be long gone then!)

I remember hearing that the ride and Disneyland would open first, and that the opening for both California and Florida would be May 2011.

It says in this link that it possibly won't be open until Fall 2011? I was hoping it would be done before our APs expire since we are talking about not renewing next year :crying: Just have to watch the updates I suppose!

I've also only heard Fall 2011 as the general "Relaunch" timeframe. I'm going to really miss the old version (heck, I already do :( ) that I've always enjoyed so much over the years and hope the new one is more than just a 3D CGI demo reel.

Hmmm..I wonder if the date in the link I gave has been changed recently..
Its pretty unfortunate if the opening is in the Fall 0f 2011. But I guess they gotta do what they gotta do.

I suppose the Relaunch could be earlier than Fall 2011. Originally it was announced that both parks' rides would close in October 2010, but instead Disneyland closed theirs in July and Disney World is closing theirs now in just a few days.

Well, I hope they managed to create a decent, glasses-free 3D experience, because I don't want to be fighting to keep my glasses on in that ride :p
Aside from that, I suspect people prone to motion sickness will have even more issues with the ride being in 3D. It makes me wonder if they'll offer a non-3D experience.
I hope they don't take the attraction too seriously though, I want it to maintain the charm of the original attraction and not be bogged down by trying to fit into the canon.

I hope they include the "Mighty Microscope" in the updated version like they did in the original film. An homage to the history of the building!

Thanks, everyone. I am sad to say goodbye to Rex,and my favorite part of the ride, where the ship freefalls after Rex's misstep. At the same time I'm really looking forward to seeing what kind of Disney Magic is put into the new ride!

Yeah, I'll miss Rex. (And to think it was only a few years ago that I noticed the "Remove Before Flight" tab hanging out of him. LOL!) I'm glad I was able to get one more ride in recently in May. I think I rode it three times throughout the day, then just before the park closed my brother and I got off of Space Mountain and hightailed it back to Star Tours. By my watch, we got there right at 11:59, met up with our mom, and went in for our final trip to Endor. Was almost surreal knowing it would be the last time. :(

ST is one of my favorite rides, but I am ready for something different. I just heard rumors that it might include the pod race as part of the ride.

I hadn't thought about that, but it is an excellent point. Generic glasses may not stay put if they have a lot of movement... Hmmmmmmmm

Don't feel bad- after riding ST for years I think it was only after I read about it somewhere that I first looked for and saw that tab!

Wasn't that in the first sneak peek they showed at the D23 Expo?

You know, I have been thinking;
IF the ride does involve wearing glasses, they could probably design them so that they stay firmly on.
For example, at "Its Tough To Be a Bug" the glasses are made a bit thicker, in part due to the insect feelers on the top, so they fit a bit more snug.
And yes, the pod racing preview was shown at the D23 Expo.
And in addition to the pod racing on Tatooine, Disney has also confirmed that Coruscant will be another possibility.

We're looking forward to the new version. Has the temp closing of Star Tours changed the crowds that attend the Jedi Training show? We kind of echo the question of will there be a choice of non-3D viewing. Two of our group have trouble with 3D movies. A bit dizzy and nausea happens (mostly only with IMAX 3D). My friend is also a germ nut and actually took in 3D glasses for the IMAX Avatar one. It's too bad Disney couldn't make an attraction based on Avatar. I would definitely like to wander through the glowing forest from the movie.

Tom will be posting to the blog every two weeks (he said in person) and that Ace will be the new pilot. Their code for this revision is 3.5 - right in the middle of Trilogy 1-3 and 4-6. remember this is supposed to go back in time a little. so star speeder 1000, vader just became vader, etc..
