Disney is relocating the koi fish from the Disneyland Hotel pond outside the Wonder tower to the Huntington Library in San Marino this weekend as part of the preparations for the start of the expansion plan. The koi ponds and waterfall area will be demolished to make way for an expanded pool area, and complete renovation of the hotel's central courtyard.

This is the only part of the expansion I just hate. I always make a point of going over to the hotel to see the Koi and waterfalls when I am at the resort. I'm going to miss them.

We were just in that area last night. We were meeting friends for dinner at Downtown Disney and were early so had some time to kill. I haven't been over in that area in a really long time, and while the waterfalls do look nice, the place generally does look very old and run down. Glad to see the koi will have a nice place to go. Are they expected to return?

That is so sad! I have pics of the kids at various ages at the falls and I was hoping to have more. We love those fish. When will they be removed?

If anyone has nice pics of the area, I'd love to see them. I will miss it. I have fond memories of napping with the sliding glass door open, listening to the waterfalls.

loved that area so much. We made a point of walking are that area every trip.

Just another cut back and loss of the Disney magic, I feel. First the wonderful light show, now the super cute pool area, and the wonderful cool waterfalls.

I just don't think the slides are any better then the PPH's slide. Just dressed up. Still just a generic tube slide.

Both my kids are really bummed that they will no longer have skull rock to slide through, Boo is very mad that the fish are going, and Grr wants them to take the boats to the PPH.

We have been alternating between stays at DLH and PPH. Now with the loss of the sliding doors and a room over the falls. I'm betting the Dh will want the PPH with the view more now.

Oh well, We'll just have to make another skull rock for our house. The kids can play on it.

I'll just have to wait and see how all this turns out in the end. Who knows I maybe surprised.

I've been telling friends and family about the upcoming Disneyland hotel makeover and all are excited to hear about the changes, but saddened to learn about the removal of the "Bonita" waterfall. I think my mom summed it up best when I told her and she replied, "That's a lot of wishes."
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"Well," she said, "We made a lot of wishes into that fountain as family and now others won't get to do the same.":crying:
My mom's a wise woman.

Wow-with that idea, it is unfortunate they could not move it to another part of the hotel, and let the money that is thrown in, be donated to the Make a Wish Foundation, to bring children to Disneyland!

Sad about the falls...wonderful picture area, walking area, relaxing area. Feeding the Koi was such fun...loved watching the children feeding them!! And, will miss the "Neverland" themed pool...looks to me now just like another pool with big waterslides, same as in many city parks, amusement parks, throughout the country.

Bigger is not always better

I didn't realize until this thread that they were tearing the waterfall area out. We also made a point of walking through it every trip after picking up a cup of coffee at the little spot near Goofy's kitchen. I am really bummed. :crying:

Leota, this doesn't show the area that well, but it's the only pic I could easily put my hands on.

Thanks, Annie! I am really sorry I wasn't able to get in there and get some good pics before they began construction. We won't be there until October and I imagine they will be long gone by then.

Bummed to hear the waterfalls are being removed. If would of been cool if they incorporated the waterfalls with the pool. Like one of those relaxing "rides" that u float around in a inner tube.

"Aaawwww!"

Say! ...
The Disneyland Hotel is missing out on a great advertising tag line. -- They could have used that one phrase from the film, "The Godfather."

"Come stay at the Disneyland Hotel. Sleep with the fishes."

I took this at the Huntington koi pond last year:

This does not bode well for the Disneyland fish. :(

More of The Godfather -- How would you like to have a fish head wake you up in the morning?

"Fish heads, fish heads.
Rolly-polly fish heads.
Fish heads, fish heads.
Eat them up. Yum!"
