......how long do they leave you on before making a decision to escort you off of a ride?

Greetings all on this soggy ole Saturday in March here in SoCal.

Posting a question before heading out to work and will check back in tonight for responses

Mid Feb. when I got an AP again, we were on Pirates when the ride stopped. Our boat had just passed BB, yet had not taken the first drop. We were actually in an "easy" spot if we would have had to leave the ride the "un-disney" way hahah...

I would say we were in there...oh...between 20 and 30 minutes stopped. Ya could hear the wails from a couple of children crying in fear of the dark. Messages would come on about staying in your boat, etc, and that a Cast Member would be there "momentarily" to assist or something of that nature.

After several more minutes and messages the lights came on but there were also messages directed to the cast memebers. When lights were lit, we were able to see the walkway to our left, and there was our CM on da phone between messages.

Messages included the typical "stay in yer boat" to "Power Down" messages and others to CM's Of course, I had my camera out and took a couple of snaps when the lights came on. Nuttin much to see for us though behind da disney illusion but the walk way.

Question is this... I know they have to have some sort of Exit route farther into the ride also, like around the Pirate Ship, and fer sure the water isn't deep at all. However...
How long do they wait until the decision is made to escort the guests off of a ride? And, I wonder how they get people out that are in the "heart" of the ride?

Any "inside info" ya care to share?

Oh, and when they finally got the ride started again after other announcements and a "Power UP" one, they gave us all a special pass to get on any ride without waiting for our entire party. I guess similar to FP

Thanks in advance for the info :)

They'd probably escort guests out when just restarting the ride won't solve the problem

Example: When me and mom got stuck on IASM. ;)
Push back the boat, push it back! :)

I remember one of my break down's on Pirates. Right in the middle of the dark secenes. Luckly, I was able to calm my sister with the light from my watch. :D

It's also fun to get caught on the Matterhorn, Space Mountain, Indy, and Star Tours. ;)

Wow, one of my earliest Disney memories--stuck on Pirates! I remember seeing "pirates" coming out from behind the rocks and telling my dad that I knew they were real after all!

I mention it because my dad timed the outage and it was 10 minutes-he thought that any outage over 30 minutes meant evacuation. This was in the 70s. Not sure if there is any truth to it but we have never been stuck inside a ride for longer than 15 minutes.

Wow. We were once stuck on Pirates for almost an hour and a half!

I think it depends on what caused the breakdown and now long it take them to figure it out. It might also depend on how many CMs they have to evacuate the ride. Perhaps they started evacuating other areas first and then they got to your area later?

We were on the ride once when they only had to evacuate two rows of a boat that was overloaded. After that, the ride started working again immediately and we were taken around to the loading area again.

Guess what? They overloaded our boat again. (There was one member of our party who was very very large and the rest of us weren't exactly lightweights, and it was a busy day so they were packing each boat leaving the station.) This time when the boat got stuck, they evacuated the entire ride.

I would imagine that there are a variety of situations that can present themselves.

We got stuck on Pirates in February..maybe it was the same time....but we were stuck at the jail scene. The weird part was that the pirate on the far left was missing his hand and all you could see was the animatronic hand. It was kinda creepy and remending me of something off of Star Trek. We were sitting there waiting for about half an hour. The CMs came out and were talking to us but we just sat there. And while we were sitting there one of the technician guys came out with a CM and put the pirates hand back on!! It was so funny. But I was kinda surprising that they would do that with all of us sitting right there. But it gave us a good laugh anyways. :)

I'm curious how they would evacuate in the parts where you're just surrounded by water also...

CMs get out there in rubber pants and push your boat to somewhere they can get you out.

Do you think it's odd that I started reciting that as soon as I read the first line?

Is it considered abnormal to also be able to recite the spiels of HM, the Monorail, Mark Twain, Star Tours, DL Train, and (most) JC jokes?

I go to the parks too much. :D

Only to the single-day passport holders, buddy. ;)

But serious, I enjoy reciting stuff but I don't because there are other people out there ;)

Last weekend, we were on California Screamin' and got stuck after the first lift. I remembered it being a pretty calm ride, but all of a sudden brakes were slammed on. I slammed the back of my head into the seat, and it hurt quite a bit. My mom wanted me to go to first aid, but it didn't hurt THAT much, just gave me a headache pretty much. However, when we got back to our hotel that night, I started vomiting, so my mom is convinced I had a concussion. In retrospect, I probably did. I didn't mention any thing to a Disney employee, and I'm not really mad about it, but I can see something like that causing a lawsuit. They should really try to make it so you don't come to such a sudden screeching halt.

Ya know, if it was that hard, it was probably and E-Stop. They useally slow down and then stop in a break down.

I think I would freak out if I had to be evacuated off of Screamin. I've been there when it's broken down and they had to do that. I saw them unloading the cars from the top of the hill and having everybody walk down the stairs. I'm sure that's not a big deal to some people...but I think I'd rather just sit in the car until it was fixed!

Disneyfan....It's certainly not abnormal for a disney fanantic to recite all that stuff!! :D Abnormal to the rest of the world, maybe....but so what? :)

A bit off topic but it reminded me...

A few Sundays ago I heard call go out over the radio for Small World going 101 due to bottomed out boat. I instantly thought to myself, "darn MousePadders!" :D

How do they evacuate somebody off Space Mountain or the Matterhorn if it is stuck in the middle of the ride?

They release each car one at a time. And as for the whistle, its cool only true Disney Geeks can remember that.

Space Mountian:
I used to work on Space Mtn. The whole track has a walkway next to it. Normally, like Rexfarms said, the rockets are released one at a time, from the end of the ride to the begining with the guests are in it)

If we needed to evacuate, CMs work in pairs of 2 and will unload 3-4 rockets. Depending on where the rockets at in the Mtn. the guests will be escorted out of side exits. Most exit in the Station or at the exit. One of them leads to the People Mover track which then goes to the exit of Star Tours.

Pirates:
I knew a lead on Pirates. Of course, I wanted to know what they had to do during an Evacuation.
Again, Rexfarms is right: CMs get out there in rubber pants and push your boat to somewhere they can get you out.

Of course they ultimately don't want to do this so they'll wait as long as possible to see if the ride can be restarted.
