I was on AOL right now looking through the changing news articles (page 4) and it gave a link to 'Ways to spend less at Disney'. Read #9. BTW I thought you had to show a receipt. So THIS dosen't happen and let alone encouraged...

I don't know if this 'irks' anyone else but to me this kind of hits a nerve.
Especially the 'It doesn't matter if it wasn't your balloon to begin with. Watching for broken balloon pieces is yet another way to keep all your friends or family members entertained -- and it results in free balloons!'

Is this 'dishonest' or 'finders keepers'...

Since not everyone has AOL, it would be helpful to either provide a link or at least some context as to what kinds of tips are being given.

Gleaning what I can from the balloon comment, I agree that it's dishonest, but some people are willing to do more than I would to get something without paying for it.

I agree. But then look what is promoted here by some people, and you see why there are articles like this.

"My kid turns three a week before we go, will they ask for a birth certificate if I say he is 2?"

"Save your cup from Pizza Port and use it all day to refill from various "free refill" locations."

"Can we use 2 days of a ticket and give the other two days to my sister's family?"

ETA - OK, NOTHING on that list has anything to do with SAVINGS. And whoever wrote it knows little about Disneyland.

BUY a Fastpass? Wait 2 hours to get a second FP? So, if my FP is in one hour, I have to wait 2 to get another?

33 Club?? Save by getting in? $1000 annual fee? The writer just lost all credibility.

Noseeum Green? Someone forgot to tell the painters in Tomorrowland as their areas are blue. Oh and Frontierland? Most of the backstage exits are brown... Give me a friggin break.

How did that even get published? I think most of us on MP could write a better article than that!

And to answer the question, yes of course it is dishonest and will not teach your kids anything except how to lie.

Seriosuly, you are going to look for lost balloon pieces so you can cheat the system to save a few bucks on a balloon, but then shell out $75+ per person to dine at Club 33? Suuuuuure.

"Get into the 33 Club"?? I actually laughed out loud that they got the name wrong repeatedly. And getting escorted to the front of the line for a button?! Yeah. Right.

And for the "Fastpass trick," I was expecting them to mention that some rides are on a different system, which is actually a trick. This is not. It tells you on the ticket when you can get a new one, for heaven's sake...

I have to apologize to TinkerbellsTwin. I thought this article was a hoax because really, who is THAT uninformed and has the guts to put it up? So I just had to double check. Well, apparently the article was SPONSORED by... you guessed it, Disney Parks (http://www.disney-destinations.com/landing.php#)! It's a Disney Travel Blog article. I just quoted a line from the article and Googled it. Go to the bottom of the page and click "read more".

How can I trust information given to me by Disney ever again? I expect it occasionally from the CM's but the website!

Wow I cant believe that they would sit there and print such things. I wonder if Disney owns AOL???

Actually, this article makes me laugh, but I think that theoretically the advice is good. The minimum food purchase for Club 33 is historically the cost of a one-day, one-park ticket. But for that price you get a good meal and a park-hopper ticket. That's a pretty good value if you ask me. Of course, most of us don't have a chance of getting in - so the advise is limited in application - but there you have it.

Also, I'm guessing 99% of the replacement balloons are from ones that flew away. The odds of someone having their balloon pop, and not recover the pieces themselves, must be crazy low. So hunting for balloon fragments is probably even less fruitful than hunting for the prize patrol during the time of a million or more dreams. And if you do find a balloon fragment, what does Disney care, if (as has been reported previously on Mouseplanet) the balloon vendors are through an outside contractor.

I am so not laughing. As was said by Malcon10t there was nothing there about saving money and they are condoning lying and technically theft.

It is condoning and encouraging people to do something that is impossible. Balloons rarely pop. I found in a bathroom stall the receipt and tags for some clothing from the Disney store in the hotel. I ripped them up and trashed them. I cannot believe anyone would allow such a piece of garbage to be published. They could just as easily wrote the article and plagiarized a better piece.

How to save money: eat lunch, eat a big breakfast, bring your own breakfast from home, ask for free cups of water and ice from restaurants.

Do the balloon vendors have any way of giving you a receipt? I'd think handling the cash, and the bouquet of balloons (especially in a breeze) would be enough for 2 hands to have to deal with.

I am trying to remember Friday. I did get a receipt for Coke I think but not the Mickey bar. I know that definitely not the balloon vendors and anyone using only cash.

It is sad when articles like that get published when there are others out there that could steal or write a better article. I enjoy sharing my knowledge and helped my new friend learn about how the disabled stuff works at DLR. She never knew about the Mansion for example. I doubt there will be a retraction, sigh.

When we were there for the rain, if our ponchos tore we could get another for free (with receipt.)
I thought that was a good deal. I needed a new one.

Is it possible that disney has a policy for the broken balloon pieces as incenstive to keep the park clean and animal safe? Maybe its not considered deception after all?

If you did not buy it to begin with and get one by "lying" yes it is still deception. The park gets cleaned by the people with the brooms and dustpans that roam the parks. I'm sorry but written by Disney or not it's still wrong.

The only park with major concerns for animal safety is Animal Kingdom. Disney has recycling bins available as an incentive to recycle and trash cans for dumping trash. Nope, no programs for turning in broken balloons.

the custodial crew do an excellent job of keeping the parks clean. From time to time you will see managers walking through the parks with pickers to pick up trash. Some do it barehanded and just pick up stuff from the ground.
