Watched the original linked video, now watching the first part. So far it is very cool to watch. I didnt know they had real wagons you used to be able to ride in. Also I remember the double decker boats I think from when I was a kid.

I love it! It's incredible to see how small the trees are -- LOL!

The quality is amazing when you consider it's 50 years old!

I love vintage Disneyland!!! It just amazes me what Walt thought of. It also amazes me that we still enjoy some of those same things 50 years later!!!
I miss the burning cabin and skyway though :(

I am glad you all liked the videos....I have never got to see the cabin actually on fire like that.

Does anyone know when the fires stopped?

Really very pretty footage of old DL (although I wasn't so into the music). It's rare to see film from that period looking that good - they must have paid a fortune to clean it up frame by frame. Very very nice!

Really cool video. If you look at the skyway footage it is on the Tomorrowland side of the park. Behind it you can see cars on what I believe is Harbor Blvd. And sheesh, the orange groves seem to go on and on.

I remember when I was a kid and we lived in Ventura County in the late 70's we we would still pass orange groves on the way down to DL. Not quite completely developed still at that point in time.

Very neat

Thank you for posting this. What an awsome video! Also, it's amazing to see how different the landscape is with the trees being so small.
Everything still looks so "new."

Very cool to see the footage! My Mom got to go to Disneyland around that time when she was like 14ish. WE found the footage and she got it transferred to DVD (or maybe video tape???) Have to look that up when I visit next!!!!

Awesome footage, thanks for sharing! Remember how the Skyway went through the Matterhorn? Did it always? I thought it did when I was a kid or am I remembering this wrong?

Well, when the Skyway first started running in 1956 there was no Matterhorn for it to run through. When they built the Matterhorn in 1959 they built it around the existing Skyway. So yes, as long as there's been a Matterhorn and the Skyway, the Skyway ran through the middle of the Matterhorn.

Thank you for the clarification and always love learning about Disneyland! So, what year did they take out the Skyway?

The DL Skyway closed in November of 1994. The official reason given by Disney was that its CMs were needed to run the new Indy ride that was opening in a few months. They tried to spin a bit and say that the ride had diminished in popularity, which doesn't seem to be the case as there were always long lines at both stations even during slow days. Take a look at yesterland.com for more DL history.

I have some very, very vague memories of DL summer 1973 (maybe 72, not certain). My dad filmed a few minutes here and there. In the 80's he had all the home movies transferred to video - they apparently LOST the Disney trip (including Oregon Coast, San Francisco, Knotts, body surfing in San Diego, San Diego Zoo, Universal and DL) - makes me cry when I see these clips!!! Anyhow, thank you so much for sharing. I've been to yesterland and it's a neat site. I love Disney history - HEY - does anyone have any comments on the best Disney history book to get? I saw a few on my last trip but couldn't decide and didn't have time to peruse properly. Any suggestions for one with great pictures and trivia (mostly on the park) would be so appreciated!

Thanks for sharing.

I am amazed at how big a dfference all the trees make. It looks strange w/ so few trees.
