View Full Version : How much do you weigh? Space Mountain cast members know.

I found out that the cast member in the little room you can see after boarding Space Mountain is looking at a little screen that tells them how much you weigh. If you weigh too much, they will ask you (or the person next to you) to get off and wait for the next ride vehicle. A cast member told me that once he got a bunch of big friends to go with him. One of them had to get off and wait, but afterward, the vehicle was almost exactly at the weight limit. He said it was the fastest he had ever felt while riding.

Actually, that is not exactly how it works. But, ok.

I'm really not trying to sound like an idiot know-it-all here. I wrote it pretty much verbatim from what a cast member in the blue sky cellar told me this afternoon. If you know differently, please correct me.

The don't know how much YOU weigh, but they do weigh the cars before you go. If the overall weight is too much, then yes, they will ask someone to get off.

Thanks for the explanation.

Just goes to show you... no matter how matter-of-fact a cast member appears to be, no matter how he goes on about knowing John Lasseter or his providing personalized services for Miley Cyrus and Kobe Bryant, sometimes they are just wrong or misinformed. I guess I should just take everything I hear with a grain of salt, though my imagination screams for me to believe literally everything they say.

There are a few CM's I do trust for info, but they have worked there for 8-15 years. And the longer they have worked there, the less likely they are to toss around the above names. And one area I know he wasn't totally above board with you... I know who Kobe's escort usually was, and it wasn't a him.... (The person left Disney last spring, so he may have escorted him since then.)

Or they could be lying to you on purpose because they think it's fun. Yeah, some of them do that. That's why it's good to know that just because a CM tells you something, doesn't mean it's true. CMs often just repeat what they've read on discussion boards, but they miss the part where it's pure speculation and then start telling people that it's the actual truth. Because, you know, if it's on the internet, it must be true.

I heard they're adding a loop to Pinocchio's Daring Journey, which is why it's in refurb right now. They also have it slated for Casey Jr.'s Circus Train. ;)

That rumor was at least plausible to people who don't know all the details of the ride's construction or follow the Disney news faithfully. After all, the ride was closed for about three years. I'm one of those who is glad the rumor did not come true. I don't like going upside down too much, and it would be worse in the dark.
