Dear Disneyland Resort Guest:

Thank you for your recent letter to the Disneyland Resort.

Thank you for your interest in the Submarine Voyage. As Walt Disney himself once
said, "Disneyland will never be completed as long as there is imagination left
in the world." Walt continually evaluated existing attractions in order to make
changes, modifications, and occasionally close attractions to make way for new
and exciting adventures. In keeping with our philosophy of making Disneyland
exciting and ever changing, we are continually evaluating our attractions,
closing some existing attractions and developing new facilities to reflect
progress and to maintain the interest of our visitors.

Walt Disney Imagineering has already begun formulating preliminary design and
conceptual plans for a new water-themed attraction scheduled to debut in 2003.
The new attraction will use a future Disney animated film as its creative
inspiration. We are sure that you will agree that our Disney Imagineers have an
outstanding track record with creating exciting attractions that appeal to
visitors of all ages. We hope that you will continue to follow the developments
of the Disneyland Resort.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to write. We hope you will have the
opportunity to visit the Disneyland Resort in the near future and trust your
visit will be pleasant in all regards.

Sincerely,

Anastasia Dalton

What is going to happen to the submarine lagoon? Will the Atlantis attraction
actually be built there and not another shop?

Looks like they have changed their usual form letter to: "Disney Imagineering has already begun formulating preliminary..." from another one they used to send you. I suppose they mean they have begun drafting the thing, so I guess building it has officially begun. They'll prolly start construction mid next year.

It bothers me that they are still using the term "future Disney animated film" months after the film came out. This shows even their Guest Relations department is out of date.

But I bet the DisCo builds something else altogether different like the future animated film, "Treasure Planet" that may come out in 2002.

I think I'd trust Al's sources over anything coming out of customer relations. I'd be surprised if Al hadn't actually heard of this from an inside source, especially since he's been focused on a future "attractions" in his last few reports.

Just curious, but what is the next animated film project that Disney is working on?

I'd also like to know what the next Disney animated film will be. Will it (hopefully) have songs? Disney animation is nothing without good music.

Sorry, saw that, but didn't know if that was the next film or not. Anyone know anything about it?

Hate to burst your bubble, but that's the exact same line they gave the CMs when they originally closed the Sub Lagoon. Exact.

I kind of agree with the above quote, because about 3 years ago when the closed the Subs, we asked a C.M. what the deal was, and he said that they were working on a new Atlantis ride that would open in about 3 years......something is fishy. I'm still praying for the ride, though.

The subs closed in September of 1998.

My reply about the closing date of the subs was in response to DisneylandKid's post, where he said that the subs closed 5 years ago. He then edited his post, making my reply look out of place. I would, however, still like a cookie.

Here is the latest news about the upcoming BIG movie, Treasure Planet (http://animated-features.tripod.com/tplanet/treasureplanet.htm) Feast and conjecture friends.

According to that website, Treasure Planet won't come out until December 2003...do we have to wait that long before the ride in the lagoon will open? I hope not!

Mr D

Apparently it may be until that long, BUT as we all know the house of mouse never reveals it true intentions;)

Hmmm I don't think they'll theme it to that movie because "Tomorrow" and "Treasure" don't mix. "Tomorrow" reminds people of the future, hence "treasure" is usualy past.

Good point, however Treasure Planet would probably fit best in Tomorrowland, because of space travel.

Actually, I recently read something in a filmmaking magazine that said that Disney/Pixar was coming out with a 3D-animation (what else) movie called "Finding Nemo." The article focussed on Toy Story and A Bug's Life, so it didn't mention what "Finding Nemo" was about. This might be something they would do in the lagoon. The movie comes out sometime in '02 or '03.
