View Full Version : Studio Disney 365 to open June 26 in Downtown Disney
One of the press releases in the media kit we received at the Summer Nightastic! event said that Studio Disney 365 will open Friday, June 26 in Downtown Disney. According to the press release,
Studio Disney 365 offers aspiring stars, age 3 and up, makeover transformations and an opportunity to walk the carpet for a grand, show-business-style entrance. Girls and boys can choose from a range of “rock star” hair, makeup and costume options for their own scene-stealing experience, inspired by the characters from “Hannah Montana.”

I thought this was aimed at an older audience that Bibbidy and Libby Lu? The paragraph screams to me that it's the same demographic ('cause I know we'd talked about it maybe being an option for a bridal party). Is that a change in direction, or was it always aimed at the Bibbidy/Libby demographic?

Bummer, we will miss it by 1 day! Is there any chance it might open earlier?

Doesn't sound like that's really the case.
Pookie, there may be "soft openings" a day or two before the official opening date. I know the BBB CMs have been cross-training over there so they are ready to go as soon as the space is finished. They are still doing some major construction behind those walls - they had jackhammers going several days last week (probably getting rid of the Club Libby Lu logo in the concrete outside the store)

Who would be the correct "people" to ask when we get there to see if it might open early? I emailed and asked but just got the standard answer.

Unfortunately you're just going to have to check each day and see if it looks like they are open. "Soft openings" are just that - unannounced, and subject to change. They might open long enough to attract a dozen customers, then close again. I wouldn't expect them to be open in the morning - check around 1 - and that Thursday is your best bet.

I have to wonder how many of the 'girl’s make over' places DLR can successfully support, especially if both are at aimed at the same age demographic?

I don't think they are aimed at the same demographic. The princess makeovers are going to appeal to about 7 and under, while the rock star ones are probably going to be targetting ages 8 to 12. My 10 year old would never do a princess makeover and my 7 year old would be on the edge about it. Both would do a Hannah Montana style thing, but I'm mean and won't let them.

I would agree with that; my daughter's 8 and has already stated she's NOT wearing any princess dress. However, the studio 365 makeover sounded intriguing to her.

But why did Libby Lu close? Was it because of business, or did Disney 'kick them out' because they wanted to take over that particular market segment? Because this description of Studio Disney 365 sounds VERY much like Libby Lu.

I read Libby Lu was owned by Saks. They wanted to focus more on that then Libby Lu which was not pulling the profits they wanted.

The entire Libby Lu chain closed last year. After buying the concept from Mary Drolet, Saks Inc found the stores unprofitable and closed them all.
Perhaps Disney will do better if they avoid the tart-like aspects of Libby Lu makeovers. Time will tell.

Judging from some of the preview pics I've seen, don't hold your breath.

Thank God the recession's over! You've got to be kidding with these kind of places. There must be an easier way to make our children happy.

I'm really not impressed with the hair styles at BBB, especially for $50. I went and brought my girls the hair ponytail holders for $8 at the world of disney store put their hair up in a little bun, sprinkled some pixie dust on their hair and voila CM's were asking if we had been to BBB. I hope SD365 is a little more creative with their do's... We may try it once for a very special occasion.... But I think I'd rather spend my money on the GCH and Napa Rose...:D
