Has anyone witnessed anything funny with kids and costumed characters? Here's one. A family was talking to Buzz and getting pictures. One of the boys went behind him and tapped him on the shoulder and ran, Buzz turned around. The boy did it again, Buzz saw him and chased him around and around (playfully). I laughed:p . Anyone else got a story?

I was at Disneyland and a little boy's parents introduced him to Mickey. The little boy (who was probably about seven) walked around Mickey, you know, looking him over. Finally, Mickey stopped him and he yelled at the top of his lungs - "YOU AREN'T REAL! YOU AREN'T THE REAL MICKEY! MICKEY DIDN'T WEAR UNDERWEAR!" Turns out, the guy's pants were showing through a slit in the costume and the boy noticed. I couldn't help but laugh as the parents dragged away the sobbing boy.:D

I was at Animal Kingdom earlier this year on a really cold day, so attendance was slow. There were 6 or 7 characters just inside the main gates, and not enough kids to go around. The characters were bored and fighting to get guests to come over. I saw the meerkat from The Lion King bang on a trashcan, stomp and jump around to try to get attention.

Im very suprised that happened. How terrible for the little boy. The characters are usually pretty good about looking great before going on stage..

I have two very special moments I can remember at DL with my kids. My middle child has Down Syndrome, and the characters are always so kind and patient with her. When she was a little over 4, we had gone on Thanksgiving day. The place was packed. But in the small tunnel between Fantasyland and Tomorrowland through Sleeping Beauty's Castle, Cinderella and two of the mice were in there. Upon seeing my daughter, they stopped us to chat. Kendall dosn't speak well, but knows a lot of signing, and kept signing "mouse" to Susie Mouse. Well, Susie caught on and continued to sign to her. What an experience. And of course Cinderella was as nice as can be. Kendall's favorite movie is Peter Pan...and she just loves Hook. When she saw him she got so excited. She was seated in her stroller eating popcorn...Hook came over and indicated he wanted some popcorn too. He proceeded to "open his mouth"...by pulling the mask open, and letting her drop popcorn inside! This went on for several minutes, as she laughed with glee at getting to feed Hook her popcorn. What a sport that guy was...and how uncomfortable that costume must have been with all that popcorn left inside!
We also have some great pictures of her at WDW with "Wendy" from Peter Pan. In all my years of going to DL, I have never seen a Wendy...but she was at WDW!:p

Great stories. I enjoy watching kids that are fascinated with the characters. I just recently was viewing some of my home movies at Disneyland when I was about 5 or 6. And (like all kids) whenever I saw a character I'd circle them and squeeze their nose, pull their ears, etc. just to make sure its really them.

mad4mky: I saw a Wendy a few months ago at Goofy's kitchen. Unfortunately this Wendy was very unrealistic. It was (most likely) a middle ages woman in the Wendy costume attempting to squeak her voice to sound like a child. With all that said and done though, it was a great expereince to have a *new* character sign my autograph book :p

One of the first times my husband and I went to Disneyland together (before we were married) we were relaxing down at the end of Main Street (towards the entrance) and we noticed Pluto taking pictures with people. Then there wasn't anyone going up to him, so he decided to go find some people to 'play with'. He was sneaking up to people and popping up in front of them, it was hilarious! Then one of the gals he popped in front of started petting his head and scratching his ears and he started tapping his foot (think Thumper) really fast. We just cracked up. Mickey Mouse caught up with Pluto about that time and they went off together. It was really fun to watch. Because of that memory, when we started collecting sericels we only buy ones with Pluto and Mickey. We don't have many, but the few we have are special because of that occasion.

Last December, my son had an awesome experience with Sleeping Beauty. We were staying at the Disneyland Hotel and different characters would visit the Concierge during the evening 'Happy Hour'. One night it was Snow White, one night Cinderella, and another night it was Sleeping Beauty. We were the only ones in the Concierge, so my three kids got to have SB all to themselves. Well, SB told my oldest son (age 6) that the next day she would be greeting people between The Rockets and The Castle and if we were in that area he should say hello. It just was coincidence that we were in that area at the correct time and he saw her. She was with some kids and so he waited patiently. All of a sudden she looked up and saw him and said "Michael, I'm so glad you came to see me". The kids around her (including mine) were amazed that SB knew my sons name. She went right up to him and hugged him then asked if he would escort her to the Castle. Hand in Hand they walked to the Castle, leaving a group of people wondering how she knew my son. He was in 7th Heaven and senitmental mom was trying to cry.

:) This is my first post, but I've been lurking for awhile and feel like I know you all.....

Anyway, when my daughter was 3 we went to WDW
and at Innoventions we saw Pluto. She was terrified of
him, but he made a point of drawing her out. From
somewhere there was stick which he dropped in front of
her to get her to play fetch. That was all it took,
and they played for at least 5 minutes.
Needless to say, Pluto became her favorite character for that trip!!
Of course now that she's older, it's Mickey, Minnie and the Princesses.
