I just saw this. On The Simpsons they go to a jail and Bart and Lisa say that going there beats going to DCA. The whole family agrees. I though this was pretty funny. :)

Simpson family marches through prison.

Marge: "It occurs to me this might not be the best place to take the children."

Bart & Lisa (in unison): "It beats Disney's California Adventure!"

Homer & Marge (together): "Hmmmmm, yeah.... well that's true."

Me: (Ha HA!):D

Argg! You beat me to it!!! :(

Actually, I was trying to find a script or quote online to prove it, but you guys saw it too so there!

I thought that reference was the funniest thing I've heard in days! The mumuring between Marge and Homer agreeing afterward was funny :D

I can see a Lawsuit forming. I wonder if they got Disneys permission. I feel sorry for DCA. Well in 10 or 15 years it will be the best park. You will see. We should have many new things by then. I was sort of half angryand was laughing at the same time. I thought that comment was very un called for.

It is parody and fully covered by past Supreme Court rulings on the First Amendment.

I'm sure Disney will just laugh off the reference. If they are smart, they will also take notice that they still need to work harder to combat the negative image of the park.

Did they in fact say "DISNEY'S" California Adventure? I heard the CA Adventure part clearly, but not the Disney part. I heArd "isney's," but no d.

It takes anywhere from 6-8 months for a Simpsons episode from concept to showing. I wouldn't be surprised if we see a paraody of DCA soon (Remember 'Blocko-land', Duff Gardens, and Itchy and Scratchy Land?)

Actually, in this case it would not be considered a parody, here's why:
A parody is re-enacting something to make fun of it.

Making a reference to something to make fun of it could actually be classified as libel (ok, sorry about spelling there) and/or slander, depending of if it's written, verbal or both.

This is clearly a case of the latter, which is not protected under the first ammendment and has many other laws against it, please note that it doesn't matter iof the full phrase was clear or not, as long as some one would reasonably interepet it to mean DCA specifically.

If Disney is smart however, they will not make a big issue out of it and instead use it to their advantage, make major imperovements in the park, then "invite the Simpson's to come and see the new and improved DCA." In otherwords, someone dressed as the character to come and have fun in the park and video tape it as a commercial and say "See, even the Simpson's, who previously said going to a high security prison was better than here like our improved park."

Now, let's take a guess as to which Disney will do:
1. Sue
2. Use it to thier Advantage
3. Do nothing

I am betting option one or three.

Of course, suing "The Simpsons" for a little joke would be just WONDERFUL P.R. for Disney, who are already seen as rather sue-happy. Remember that incident when the country of Brazil (or some other south american country, cant remember which one) wanted to sue "The Simpsons" for saying their country is filled with assorted ruffians? Made the country look even more idiotic.

Has Disney really been injured? Are people not going to go into DCA because of a comment they heard on "The Simpsons"? Get real! Do you even think that many non DLR fans "got" that joke?

They really shouldn't say anything about this... my 2 cents :)

And yes, wd, they did say "Disney's" ... man, I totally laughed my arse off when I heard that!

I thought Lisa slowed down to pronouce DISNEY's CALIFORNIA ADVENTURE very clearly and deliberately. Don't you guys think so?

But anyway, people at Fox wouldn't put it in if they weren't sure if they're going to get sue. They must have cleared it or made sure it was okay to air it.

Remember the "totally" deserted EURO ITCHY & SCRATCHY LAND? The park is obviously bustling now, and Disney came to their senses & thankfully got rid of the original name, but that SIMPSONS reference is still hilarious.

yea, the Simpsons (like any real American families :) ) made plenty of Disney references (though this is the first time that they actually say DISNEY, I think)

I just found a ton of Disney related "Simpsons" episodes here. (http://www.snpp.com/guides/disney.html)

That the first place I went to after the Simpsons last night to see if they updated the 14th season. Apparently not. I'd love to get a sound clip of that line.

here's the link (http://www.snpp.com/guides/ql.html). Episode EABF01.

According to Smithers, Michael Eisner has been dead for five years.

ROFLMAO!! :D

Does Fox has something against Disney or something? :)

Forget the number of times the Simpsons have made fun of Disney. What about the number of times they made fun of...Fox. The rip at their own network more than anything. Anyone who takes Simpsons jokes as more than that needs to lighten up big time. "Fox turned into a hardcore porn station so gradually, I didn't even notice." Have you seen when they put Rupert Murdoch in there?!?

And no, ldsguy, this is not slander. Stating an opinion on the relative merit of something is not slander. Perpetuating a factual falsehood that damages character as fact is slander. So, I can say and print "DCA sucks" as my opinion all I want. I can also say "DCA sucks because they hit you with sticks while you're there" if it's in a forum that is known and accepted as fictional or a parody (such as an animated sitcon). I CANNOT say, "DCA sucks because they hit you with sticks while you're there," in a forum that is known and accepted to report news and facts. Tabloids get sued all the time because they present themselves as legitimate news sources (and sadly enough people believe them to be such). Shows like the Simpsons and Saturday Night Live rarely get sued and lose those suits even more rarely.

Not quite true. If that definition of libel was accurate then you can figure that 95% of what's said by the late night hosts (Letterman, Leno, etc) would fall into the libel category.

Legally it's called satire, and it's perfectly legal to poke fun at a public personality or institution, which Disney and DCA is. To make a false accusation against it? No. But poke fun at it, you bet it's legal. Even if Disney wanted to sue there are absolutely no grounds to.

That said I'm having to bug my brother in law for his tape of the last episode so I can catch it. Sounds like funny stuff.

Saddest of all, some actually believe Weekly World News (or should it be "Weakly"?) to be a legitimate news source, even though they do everything but explicitly state that they're a parody on tabloids.

Personally, I like DCA. I think it needs more work, but not every park can be born all grown up.

"Making a reference to something to make fun of it could actually be classified as libel (ok, sorry about spelling there) and/or slander, depending of if it's written, verbal or both."

But in order for them to sue for slander/libel, Disney must prove:

1. What the Simpsons' writer said was incorrect.
2. The Simpsons' writers knew what they said was incorrect.
3. The remarks made caused damage.

If anything, the remarks were more of a violation of trademark. The title "Disney's California Adventure" is protected from use by another company without Disney's permission. I'm more than certain that Fox got permission from Disney to use DCA's title and probably paid some royalties as well.

Fox: We would like to use the term "Disney's California Adventure" on the Simpson’s.

Disney: Really? What for?

Fox: We are basically going to make a joke saying that Prison is better than going to California Adventure.

Disney: Ha ha ha. That's pretty funny. I once told a joke like that on Laughingplace.com, but they deleted it. In any case I'm going to have to say no. You see the Disney corpor-

Fox: We will pay you.

Disney: DONE!
