Hey - - Here is a photo of the pirate ship built for the Pirates of the Carribbean movie:

It bears close enough resemblance to the dearly departed Captain Hook's Pirate Ship that I believe it could be dressed, detailed and painted to fit the bill.

Disneyland: Since it already exists and is paid for - - why not procure the ship from your sister film division after the shoot and rebuild Skull Rock where it was intended to go during the construction of New Fantasyland (by StorybookLand queue)?

With a little sponsor-cash from Chicken of the Sea or Starkist... a major Disneyland icon photo location, accidental victim of circumstance, could easily return to the park for the 50th, providing some nostalgic kick to the proceedings!

Where's Tony...?

Nice try, MJ, but unfortnately the two ships are not close enough in resemlence, as you suggest. They are entirely different ships, entirely different superstructures, with the "Captain Hook" ship bearing more of a resemblence to a Spanish Galleon of the 17th century, and the one from the movie looking more like a standard frigate of the 18th. It would take more than a little work to shange one into the other--in fact, it would probably cost just as much to construct a new ship from scratch.

Have to agree, the ships do not look anything alike. Capt'n Hook's was completely cartoony, and tiny to boot.

I am certainly in favor of returning the ship to Fantasyland, but keep that realistic looking frigate away.

I would rather have a cartoonish one too, but who is gonna pay for it???

Hey,im going with merlins idea...I say bring the ship in and make it a perm staple of the park...tie it into the new film..disney has done it for years and they can do it again!!

I hate to disappoint, but the ship in question is currently being dismantled and recycled at a yard in Long Beach right now.

Where exactly would you put this ship? It is rather large and anywhere near the Storybookland canal would either completely block the Fantasyland walkway between Teacups and Storybook or block the parade route from Small World Plaza. The only place I could see putting a pirate ship of any size would be the Motorboat cruise area (Fantasyland Gardens?)...

So let me get this straight.... they built a seaworthy ship for one movie, and now are dismantling it?!!?

Someone should tell them you can rent these things!

;-)

Aha....

The beautiful vessel in that picture is the Lady Washington, launched in 1989. She was indeed in Long Beach recently, but not being disassembled (Thank God!). She was being readied for her voyage to the Carribbean, and painted and fitted for her role in the film.

She does not belong to Disney, or to anyone in particular, although you could say the people of Washington State, as she is Washington's Tall Ship Ambassador.

And remember, she is not a ship, she is a brig!

I thought the brig was where they threw you if you misbehaved on a ship.

Brig also means that too.

Lady Washington is a reproduction. She is a replica of the original Washington/Lady Washington that sailed from approximately 1750 - 1798. Her vessel type is a "brig", (the name comes from the configuration of the sails). It would be most accurate to say that Lady Washington is a "a merchant brig of 90 tons". (The "90" is a volumetric measurement, not the weight of the vessel.) Her official title is "Washington State's Tall Ship Ambassador".

The Lady is NOT a ship and she is most certainly NOT a pirate ship!

So, if I were a brigand aboard a brigantine I could still be thrown in the brig? Where I could brag about burgling the brigadier's brilliantine.
