This is from a different board but this person says she was told she could use it up to 3-5 yrs after she got it and used it. I know my friend had one in May and it says 14 days after the first use and then its no good. I know you can take it back to the park later for exchange for whatever ticket if you have days left. So how long are they good for? The Disneyland site doesn't say much except about being able to exchange the unused days. BTW, how does that work? My friend has a day she never used. Would they give her one that allows her to park hop? Thanks.

The best thing to do is have he look on the ticket, that will tell all. :)

I don't think the ticket says anything about being able to take it and exchange it later but the website does say you can. I just know that my friend had her's and I looked at it and it said only good for 14 days after the first use. Maybe this person trying to say its good for so many years heard wrong.

Last I knew, if you buy the park hopper that is on "special" (5 days for the price of 3 type of ticket), it is only good for 14 days from date of first use, but if you buy a regular full price park hopper from the main ticket booth outside of DL/DCA they are good for 2 years.
I think WDW tickets are good forever. So if you have leftover days on a WDW ticket, you can use it years later.

Use of an expired ticket for upgrade/admission would have to be an exception made by a lead or a manager. Don't automatically assume that it's an exception that'll be made.

This is what the Disneyland site says about the park hoppers. It was down at the bottom of the page:
Unused expired tickets may be returned at the Main Entrance toward the purchase of a valid ticket. Other restrictions apply.
Now my friend bought her's for full price and was never told a thing about it being good for that long. It just said good for up to the 14 days after first use. Do they not tell you this when you buy it and you have to ask about it? I did look up the WDW site and it says they don't expire but I know that is not the case here otherwise I would think it would say on the DL site as well or they would tell you when you buy it or put it on the pass.

since the very very knowledgable people on this board are telling you that there's a possibility you may have trouble taking in an unused expired ticket, and you have indeed found a quote on disneyland.com saying that it can indeed be traded in, I would print it and bring that in as support of your request. But still understand that as far as I know, their policies are always... subject to change without notice.... ;)

Oh I know that to well. My friend isn't going to bother. She is just going to buy a 2 day park hopper pass at the hotel. We just want don't want to deal with the hassle it would more then likely be and she may not even know where it is (if she even kept it). I was just wondering about the passes cause of what was said on a different board.

Definitely... if it says it on the website, print it out and bring it in.

Just checking. We are going Dec 6-8 ( 3 days ) and have two guests with the "5 for 3" park hopper media. One wants to upgrade to a Delux AP. Am I correct that its best to wait until the last day of use to upgrade and the price would be the Delux AP price ( $165 ) minus the price of the 5/3 ticket? Thanks.

I have a park hopper ticket right in front of me that I will use in 2 weeks this is what is says "Expires 13 days after first visit First visit must occur by 1/07/2003, not valid after 1/20/2003" So it looks like they give you about 2 months from the time they issue it.

you have a hopper that is a "special value/deal" the 3/5 day one, that special ends in Jan and first use must occur BY Jan 7th. I have two in my wallet right now for the end of December... any of those specials have specific dates they are good for, but if you went and bought a full priced hopper with no 'special' deal attached they expire 14 days after the first use....that's why everyone needs to read the specifics of their particular ticket since there are so many variables involved.

now i'm not sure on this, but based on whatever knowledge I've picked up....
mammasilva-- I was under the impression that the hopper passes bought at the gate (as in full price) did *not* have the 14 day expiration thing and could be used up to two years from first day of use. Is this not the case?
hefferdude-- as far as I know, if you are using a hopper pass and want to upgrade to a deluxe AP, whichever day you do it, they will backdate the expiration of your AP to the first day you came into the park using the ticket, so I don't think it's wise to wait until your last day of use because if you upgrade the first day you are there, you could use your AP discounts on food for the legnth of your stay. and yes, the price of the upgrade will be the current price of a Dexlue AP minus whatever amount was paid for the ticket. Usually they show a dollar value on the back of the ticket, so you can check exactly how much you'll need.

Why would it be different if you buy it at the gate or store or hotel? I would think they are all the same. My friend bought her's in the Disney Store last time and it was up on the website for DL that it was good for up to 14 days after the first use as well as on the park hopper. I know the WDW site says those don't expire but the ones here are different. But the DL site doesn't say anything about that. hmmm.

The hoppers bought at the ticket booths at the park seem to have different rules than those bought "off property" like thru the stores, hotels or even online....why that is I have no idea, but that appears to be something that has always 'been' I know we bought my niece a hopper (full price) at the ticket booths and hers said it expired in two years, while ours (bought thru disney travel) said expired 14 days after first use.....that's why I say everyone needs to read the fine print on the hopper they purchase because there is not ONE final that's it, this is how it is, rule for them....

My friends from Northern California just visited this past weekend. They bought a 5 day parkhoppper pass almost exactly one year ago at the gate. The pass said that it was good for two years. They went to guest relations Sunday and asked for full credit on the purchase of premium passports. They only had one day left on their 5 day passes. After talking to a manager, they were given the full credit of the 5 day pass on their purchase of annual passports.
They were also given a refund on their parking.
So for the price of a premium pass, they in effect are getting two years of visits!
They couldn't beleive me when I advised them to try this. I also told them to not take "no" for an answer from a cm, but to ask for a manager. I'm so glad it worked out for them, and I hope it works out for you too!!!!

To me it sounds like to much of a pain in the butt to do all that and go through it. If you have the time and don't mind then I guess that is fine.

It doesn't matter what day you do it on, here's basically how it works:
You go to a ticket booth or to the Annual Passport Processing Pavilion, tell them you want to upgrade the tickets to Annual Passes, they will deduct whatever you actually payed for the ticket from the price of the annual pass, and the annual pass will be valid for one year from the first day of use.
Also if you buy parking and buy the parking option on the pass, it will of course be deducted from the cost of the pass.
The only requirements for upgrading, to my knowledge is that the passes are not expired (In most cases you can exchange these for nonexpired ones first) and that it be done before the park closes on the last day on the pass, but again, the Annual Pass will be valid from one year from the first day the pass was used.

Asking for a credit from your day pass for an annual pass sounds like too much of a "pain in the butt" to save at least $45???

I was talking about just to get the credit from an expired park hopper for a just a ticket.

Thankyou IDSGUY and SYDNEY for the notes up on upgrades. :)
The backdate to the first day of use of a 5/3 sorta makes business sense.
With another AP'r making in the family, probably just have come to DL more often. Dang! ;)

It's my understanding that any unused DL ticket media, expired or otherwise, can be exchanged for current ticket media on the basis of the purchase price. That includes old ride tickets, if anybody's foolish enough to turn them in for face value.
Of course, that's just what I've heard, mostly on this board. I've not been in a position to test that since DL first went all-unlimited-use, and I unloaded a goodly chunk of my stack of old ticket books (keeping a few as keepsakes).

My experience in March, '02... Used a 3 day Parkhopper on March 1st, 2nd and 3rd. On the 3rd we upgraded to APs which have expirations of 03-03-03. So we got 365 days plus 2 (March 1 and 2). I wasn't backdated.
Others have related this experience as well. Hope this helps :)
