Mickey Mouse's 80th Birthday will be commemorated by a brief show at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 18 in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland.

Hmm, I can't find the "edit" option for the previous post...

Ok, so...

I hit the center hub just after 10am, and staked out a shady spot. There was no one else there at all, so I decided I'd go on Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters (and send the pic to people who are working at 10am on a Tuesday!) Then I bought a couple of pins, and got at 10:30. My spot was no longer shady and all the umbrellas were taken, but still, there were only about 20-25 people.

I sat on my bench and watched as people started showing up wearing old Mickey gear. I wished I had remember my giant Mickey's 60th button!

At about 10:45 there was a 3/4 circle forming in front of the castle. I could still see, but I realized people would be standing in front of me, and I was uneasy about standing on the benches. So I moved to the stone bench in front of the castle, and managed to nab the spot closest to the castle, with the lamp post to hold on to. My plan was to stand on the bench once is started.

Now, the actual ceremony:
(Sorry for the bad pics, I just sort of held up my camera and hoped I got stuff, but I was dead even with Mickey & Minnie, so I didn't get much).

Cool shot of the castle:

First Mickey and Minnie walked down the bridge to the castle. Mickey dipped Minnie and kissed her!

They were followed by a marching band. The band leader did a little spiel about birthdays and unbirthdays, and invited the Mad Hatter out to celebrate everyone's unbirthday. He was joined by Alice and the Mad Hatter, who picked a few kids out of the crowed and they sang.

Then a lot of characters came down the bridge holding presents. I saw, Donald, Daisy, Goofy, Pluto, Chip & Dale, Cruella, Aladdin, Jasmine, Queen of Hearts, Mary, Bert and a Penguin. I'm sure there were more. (I didn't get good pics of this, darn.)

After more singing and some streamers, the big 5 plus Daisy broke through the crowd, got in a car waiting by the trolley stop and drove off.

At this point it seemed like everyone ran towards the castle, but I had to go to work, so I ran for the hub. It turned out there was a parade! The car drove slowly down Main Street, with the other characters carrying presents and waving flags. Practically no one followed it at first. I got ahead of the parade 4 times before it was halfway down Main Street and was able to stop for pictures (most of which people stepped in). I even got down there before the CMs closed the street and was able to watch the parade come right towards me, very cool.

They stopped the parade at one point, let a crowd gather and sang Happy Birthday again. At that point I had to leave because I had to drive back to L.A. for work.

But all in all, an awesome experience.
