I'm just posting this for what it's worth since I don't have irrefutable confirmation and I have to leave out some details.

But, in any case, we found out on Sunday that the space in DTD West formerly occupied by Y Arriba Y Arriba has been leased to a particular restaurant company who plan to open up a high-end Mexican restaurant. They're apparently planning on keeping the dance space in there. There's no word on when they'll open as the deal was recently closed, but I'm looking forward to their opening.

Well, personally, I hope the info you have is correct. I would very much like to see another Mexican restaurant in DTD. Hopefully this one will have good food & service. We had one very good experience at Arriba when it first opened. We gave it two more chances after that before we gave up on it. What a waste, it had such potential.

Thanks for sharing, Cindy, but we are hoping your info is NOT correct. We were both hoping for an Adventurer's Club West or a Comedy Warehouse, like at WDW's Downtown Disney!! Those are two of our favorite places to visit when we're at Pleasure Island.

I was kinda hopping they'd raize it and put in a Disneyquest. I was hoping they would build one from day one. I belive it was in the original plans, but got dropped early on.

I think the teens ( and young at heart;) ) need something more fun to do. But then do we want the crowd from the Block? Maybe not.........

That place was so cool. I even still have my green canteen which came with a fruity tropical drink when I was there a few years ago.

I'm kind of disappointed to hear it may be a mexican restaurant again. And an upscale one to boot? I guess they do need a mexican restaurant in DD, but I would prefer either a chinese, or something unique like a Disney type club such as Adventurer's or Comedy Warehouse.

I remember reading in an interview over at laughingplace (and I agree, unfortunately) that they were under no circumstances even willing to consider disneyquest. I think the other locations were not as wonderfully successful as they thought they might be.

I've never been to wdw, much less disneyquest, so I don't know what i'm missing.

If they are sticking with mexican food, I hope it's more california-style mexican food, which I much prefer. There wasn't anything I found apealing on y arriba's menu.

Y Arriba wasn't Mexican food, it was food from Spanish speaking countries. There's a difference.

Personally, I don't like Chinese food, but I love Mexican food.

Plus it seems that large scale arcades are hit and miss, look at gameworks, they left OC.

Besides, it'd be competition for ESPNZone.

That too, one thing I can't quite get (never been to either of them) is how Dave and Buster's can stay afloat but gameworks doesn't. I hear they both have a bar and food... but why?

I've never been in gameworks, so I don't have an opinion of that, but I absolutely love Dave and Busters. My husband introduced me to that last year. Maybe the games and/or food are better at D&B's?

That was my experience. I did visit Gameworks at the Block once fairly soon after it opened, but I wasn't too impressed with it. The food was just ok and the game selection didn't amount to a lot.

I have been much more impressed with the food at Dave & Busters and generally have found a lot to do there. In fact, I'd probably go more often if I didn't have a tendency to spend way too much money there... :)

On my one visit to the DisneyQuest in Orlando, I found it to really be a very different type of experience than either D&B or Gameworks. It really is more like an indoor theme park, with attractions that are largely closer to rides than games, while D&B and Gameworks really skirt the edge of being classified as casinos.

With the right combination of pricing and marketing, I do think that Disney could have made DisneyQuest work as a chain. Unfortunately, they seemed a bit too quick to give up on it.

my apologies, adrienne. You are absolutely right. My family is actually from Spain and my parents raved over the spanish Tapas (traditional appetizers) they served at y arriba. (however they only managed to get them once, and after that had really bad service experiences and eventually refused to return.)

Hmmm, that's interesting to hear. We only ate at Y Arriba once and really did not enjoy the food or the experience very much, even though the menu items looked amazing (not that we have any knowledge of Spanish tapas, of course). We were really disappointed because we enjoyed Catal's tapas bar so much.

also I believe part of the problem was that y arriba couldn't keep this specific menu item "in stock" so to speak. a couple times I heard from my parents that they had shown up at the restaurant only to be told that they were out of tapas.

anyway. what do you have at catal, cstephens?

no problem, sydney. I absolutely adore Mexican food. I ate it ALL the time when I was pregnant with both boys and now I have two little blondies who love Mexican food, too. But I was an exchange student in Argentina- I also absolutely love Argentine food, (for 6 months, we actually had an Argentine restaurant in town, :sigh:, I could buy small, fresh alfajores by the dozen...) and it's definitely different from Mexican food.

We also had a Peruvian exchange student live with our family for a year- again, great food, but not the same as Mexican. (I'll take the Lomo Saltado, I know, it's not exactly fancy or exotic, but I like it.)

Ah, well the one, the Game Works, we had was basically built in the same location as a failed arcade. But what is with the people at the doors to Dave and Buster? They look rather overdressed for their jobs.

Ah, DQ's big thing is that they are an indoor theme park, it's part of the park hopper tickets they have for guests and I think their APs.

I alwasy thought, I looked in one once, that the Gameworks looked like a kiddie casino since they had drinks right along with the games, probably less money goes out since no money goes back to the players.:)

Presuming you mean the downstairs uva bar and not the upstairs restaurant, I'll respond accordingly.

I actually haven't had a chance to eat downstairs in a while. We had lunch there in early October, but that's been it. I know the menu was changed recently (haven't had a chance to update my menu site yet), and they've added a couple of new items that I'm eager to try. They've added chicken wings, but even that's been changed since it first was added in mid-October. Originally, it was chicken wings with a garlic-citrus sauce and chopped tomato salad, which sounds absolutely wonderful to me but apparently, it didn't go over very well. I'm really disappointed that we missed out on that. They're now just serving what are basically hot wings, but we've been warned that they are REALLY, REALLY, REALLY (I'm not kidding), REALLY HOT. We plan to order it anyway, but we're prepared. The other main addition is a halibut ceviche with lime, avocado, cucumber and tomato on a crispy tortilla. That sounds great to me as well. In the past, we've normally enjoyed the fried calamari and the caprese, among other things. Oh, and the trilogy of marinated olives is incredible. The Catal tapas bar used to actually be all tapas when they first opened. I was really disappointed when they started to serve "regular" food and took away a lot of the tapas choices.

I said nothing about a Mexican Restaurant chain.

And for the moment, I can't disclose the name of the restaurant company.

I don't think it's a secret that the Patina group has expressed interest in the Y Arriba Y Arriba space.

If it is, they are doing a really poor job of keeping it as such.

Both Naples and Catal have "Change of Ownership" signs in the window. When I asked someone at Catal what that was about, he said it was because the Patina Group wanted to reorganize the "three Downtown Disney" restaurants into one sub-company. When I asked what the third restaurant would be, he pointed over towards Y Arriba Y Arriba and said that that they were putting a mexican restaurant in there.

There hasn't been an official announcement, and I know Disney was looking at several proposals, but it's certainly leaking out all over the place.

Oh, is it common knowledge now? Hmmm, I didn't know that. A few of us had been given this information a while ago in confidence, and I didn't want to betray that confidence until something more official had been released.

Really looking forward to the new place. Hope they get rid of all that gawdy exterior that's there now.

Ummm, because it's not? Because the Farrell's people didn't want to? For the same reason that it's not a million other establishments? Not sure what kind of answer you're looking for.

WOAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Personally I would love to see a Farrell's go in there. Burgers, fries, and ice cream, a wonderful family friendly restaurant.

However since AVP mentioned Patina was probably taking it over to make a sub-company then theres a pretty good shot that Farrell's isn't going in there. Especially with one at the Block. However it would have been a great family friendly restaurant to add to the thousands of new memories created at the DLR already.

I hear ya David!
