Being the Disney Geek that I am, I took off work on Halloween Day so I could see some of the Disney Villians that only come out for this one day of the year. Let me tell you, I was not dissappointed - the villians were great, I only wish they'd come out and play a bit more often. Maybe now that Rasulo is in charge he'll bring some of the DLP events stateside.

Here are a few glimpses of the characters that were out. I reduced the resolution on these, but they still might give your dial-up a hard time so click on the links at your own discetion.

One of the first villians out was The Big Bad Wolf (http://www.linkline.com/personal/cemeinke/img/Villians/Big%20Bad%20Wolf%20%26%20I.jpg) . He was the most playfull of the bunch. I had a great time watching him approach parents with small children and try to get them to let him eat their children - he was especially fond of a child in an infant piglet suit.

Some of the more obscure villians to attend were
Frollo (http://www.linkline.com/personal/cemeinke/img/Villians/Frollo.jpg) and Stromboli (http://www.linkline.com/personal/cemeinke/img/Villians/Stromboli.jpg) who both seemed to be a bit perturbed that they didn't get the recognition of the other villians.

Both Captain Hook and the Hag from Snow White (http://www.linkline.com/personal/cemeinke/img/Villians/Hook%20%26%20Hag.jpg) were fairly popular. The Hag (http://www.linkline.com/personal/cemeinke/img/Villians/Hag.jpg) was particularly good at creeping around through the guests. I only regret not getting a picture of her offering apples to some guests.

Jaffar (http://www.linkline.com/personal/cemeinke/img/Villians/Jaffar.jpg) was out, and quite impressive. He's very tall and loomed over many of the guest. Here's a close-up (http://www.linkline.com/personal/cemeinke/img/Villians/Jaffar%20Close-up.jpg) .

One of the most impressive costumes was that of Shan Yu (http://www.linkline.com/personal/cemeinke/img/Villians/Shan%20Yu.jpg) , very fierce and creepy. Here's another of him and Frollo (http://www.linkline.com/personal/cemeinke/img/Villians/Shan%20Yu%20%26%20Frollo.jpg) .

Another treat for the day was Hades (http://www.linkline.com/personal/cemeinke/img/Villians/Hades%20%26%20I.jpg) . His costume is HUGE - as you can see since I'm not that small of a guy myself. He was also amazingly animated for being so bulky and very expressive with his freakishly long fingers.

Now the real reason I went to this event (and confessed as such to the survey people at the fron gate) was to get me this pic (http://www.linkline.com/personal/cemeinke/img/Villians/Maleficent%20%26%20I.jpg) . What I understand is that Maleficent only comes out on Halloween, so it's a once a year opportunity. Here's another view (http://www.linkline.com/personal/cemeinke/img/Villians/Maleficent.jpg) . And a better view of her profile (http://www.linkline.com/personal/cemeinke/img/Villians/Maleficent%20Profile.jpg) so you can see her extended chin and nose. Maleficent was definately the star of the day, as the CMs had to quickly constuct a seperate queue for guests to just pay her a visit.

In all, a great event. A chance to see the bad guys & gals and give the good ones (http://www.linkline.com/personal/cemeinke/img/Villians/Snow%20White%20on%20Bridge.jpg) a break.

Sweet pics! Frollo's neck does look a little creepy, though. I wouldn't worry too much about a villain looking perturbed. That's pretty much their natural state. :D

Shan Yu!! I didn't even know DL had a costume for this character--it looks so pristine I'll bet it hasn't seen a lot of use. I don't remember him in the Mulan parade either--only as part of the large fireworks float.

Very cool. Thanks for putting that together :)

I do love the one of Snow White heading all alone to the wishing well. :crying:

Who's that villian with the love of my life, The Big Bad Wolf ? (http://www.linkline.com/personal/cemeinke/img/Villians/Big%20Bad%20Wolf%20%26%20I.jpg) ;)

'Who's afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?'

'I'm Not Afraid'.

No, really, she's Not Afraid.

Those costumes are amazing! They all look so much like the actual cartoon villains! That hag one is very scary, wow.
I bet I know why a lot of people didn't recognize Strombolli: he's not grinning. The pictures of him in Fantasyland show him with his big toothy grin. Strombolli looks kind of solumn in... ah... person.
But all in all, very awesome! Is this new, at all? When I went in '98, I don't remember any villains in the park.

Thank you so much for posting those pics! I was so bummed that I didn't get to go over there and check it out, but Maleficent was all I really wanted to see so those pics of her are spectacular. Thanks again!! :D

See, now if we had a land dedicated to the villains, they could set up a permanent meet n greet.

(Theme it to Halloweentown, but throw all the villains in there - kinda like throwing mic n min's places into toontown when the comics say they live in Duckberg)

Unfortunately, this is NOT a permanent situation (although it was one of the most fun shifts I'd ever worked; Ratcliffe, Big Bad Wolf and I had far too much fun when I was there with them).

I do hope this becomes an annual happening though, it truly is a great opportunity to get a few obscure characters and to interact with the villains.

(not to mention I get to drip with sarcasm and it's all within the theming! Maybe I should transfer to Mansion. . . ;) Until next year. . . )

I missed the villainous get together completely. Thanks a bunch, ceminke, for sharing the pictures.

Wow! The thought of asking/posing for a picture with Shan Yu is a scary, don't you think? a very impressive costume.

Word from above says that the Villain meet a greet went very well and the plans at this time is to invite them back next year.

for sharing the great villain pics! I hope you don't mind but I'd like to print them out and add them to my Villain pin collection photo frame.

So are the Villains only there because of Halloween? Or, will they be there from now on because of the new Villain store?

I won't be able to get there til March 2003!!!

I love the Villains!

Thanks everyone I had a fun time getting these pics - though I felt a bit of a stalker hanging out there taking picture after picture.

From what I understand some of the villians were out in the park for the 2 weeks before Halloween. I know we saw Frollo, Stromboli, the Big Bad Wolf, and governor Ratcliffe in the townsquare while doing Mouse Adventure. I also heard that earlier in the week both Jaffar and the Genie were hanging out by Aladin's Oasis so you could get pics of them with Alladin and Jasmine as well.

I think Maleficent, Hades, and Shan Yu only came out on Halloween Day.

The way the meet & greet worked was that the villians were rotated in groups of 2 to 4 while guests queued up at the character walk. So when you stood in line you never knew what villians would be available when you got to the head of the line. There were a few of us that went through the queue a couple times to get our photo op with our favorite villian. People started accumulating at the fron of the line waitng for Maleficent, so the CMs created a seperate queue for her.

All in all a great event, but hard to take advantage of. I took the day off work to be there. The people who joined me after work were too late to see them (I think they were out till 6:00 and the park closed at 8:00). I hope in the future they do something similar during the weekend, or maybe even have the villians out at night so more people get a chance to see them.

We went to the park on the 30th, before the NBC screening, to try and catch some of the villians. When we were there, the villians were the Old Hag, Stromboli, and Jafar. It was great, and we even paid for a picture with the Old Hag! But I would have loved to have seen the Evil Queen, Maleficent and Hades too.

Well, you can't see the old hag and the evil queen at the same time, silly! ;) Of course if you're seeing them in Fantasyland, I wonder that you can see either one of them at all-- seeing as how the evil queen keeps peeking at you behind her curtains above Snow White's Scary Adventures. I'm sure nobody would care, but some smart aleck would ask about it.

cemeinke, that you so much for your spread about the Villains on Halloween. Between the pictures and the story, it was the virtual trip with you that every red-blooded Disneygeekboy would have loved to have ditched work for. Congratulations.

As the mother of a four year old Disney Villain-lover, I would have given anything to see those Disney baddies!

That said, Cassidy still wouldn't go see that Evil Queen who was out quite a bit while we were there. She kept saying, "Um, maybe later." ;)

What a day! Thanks for the pics.

GeminiAngel,

We're planning to come March 23 - 29th, but we're talking about splitting the trip and only staying 3 nights and then go back in early Nov or Dec 2003 for 4 nights!

I'd alter plans just to see Villains!
I've been collecting Disney Villains stuff for years!

Frollo was very unfriendly. Out of all the villains I encountered on October 26th, he was the only one that refused to shake my hand. Boo Hoo Hoo.

Great pictures...!:D

I have never seen Shan-Yu...Hades or Strombolli out before. Those were great to see. I didn't even know they had those costumes. Cool. Hades was so tall...(course, they're all tall next to me!).

Thanks for showing us your Halloween at the park.

(ps...I got a great picture of me with the hag when we were down last month...I had never seen her out before...that was great to see her!).

Cool photos. I would have loved to have seen the hag.

We did see Maleficient when we were there in October (I think we saw her the Sunday before Thanksgiving). She was wonderful, scaring the kids and doing photo ops and autographs in Town Square.

We also saw Cruella in the same spot... It was clearly the villians' home for the day.

Thanks for the amazing photos. What a fun day! I was trapped in the body of Bubbles the Powerpuff Girl while leading 29 mini-villians :~) (mostly bloody scream faces) around the blacktop for the "Parade".

Sorry I missed it. I love Shan Yu, have not seen him out-and-about before!

I knew I couldn't possibly be the only Mouse Padder at the event

I remember you and your daughter too, among the few of us who came early and held our positions to see Maleficent, despite the best efforts of the CMs to just run us through the queue. :D
