Awright! I rode Space Mountain Today!

Went backstage this afternoon and discovered that they were looking for Cast Members to test Space Mountain. So I went and rode it several times. Tracks the same but the effects are GREAT! They are doing load and capacity test. Next run is at 2030 to 2130. Then again at 2100 to 2400. Enter from backstage. I'm going back tonight. The crew had no info on soft openings. Sorry.

Just remeber that if you are not working and are backstage. You could (might) be term or have a 3 day vacation.

You can't get termed for this. They are asking Cast Members to visit while on break or after your shift. There are plenty of reasons to go backstage while not on duty. Visit scheduling, changing costumes, go to the TEAM center, ect.

Did the tracks hold the new rockets (and did they play old soundtrack)?

We just got back from DLR. When we were riding the DLRR one of the conductor's asked another conductor "if he got to ride" and "if the line was short"..... I was wondering if he was talking about Space Mountain.

I can't wait until the ride opens to the general public. SM is toward the top of my list of favorite DL rides.

haha. That's awesome the guys on the DLRR were talking about it. I love those guys. They're the one's who told me about it today.

I went on before my shift at 1500, and then again at 2200. Then I went to the Train Station, and one of my Conductors asked me to go again with him. We got on fairly quickly, so that was nice. Then once we were done with the ride, they had us go on it again (we didn't even exit the ride). So, I ended up going on it 4 times today.

And it is the same track as before.

Not true... A long as you enter through harbor pointe and NOT through an in park backstage gate you have nothing to worry about except the ride breaking down right as youre about to get on.

You mean to tell me there is no truth to the rumors about the loop? Not even the double loop? I also heard there was a triple axle, or something like that.

hehe. I know what you mean, CinemaGal. It was amazing. Everyone I rode with was all freaking out and getting dizzy at the start though. It was awesome.

Did you get to experience music, too? Was it all new?

Don't hurt me.

Rode it today. Front row.

I thought it was good... but not great.

Don't get me wrong, there's a lot to love about it. The station looks amazing, the beginning is cool as heck, and the ending will knock your socks off.

But the part where you're whizzing through outer space, at least to me, is the meat and potatoes of this attraction, and it just seemed like nothing was done to enhance that major component. For all I know though, perhaps that part's loaded with show effects and they just weren't cycling. I hope that's the explanation. After all, it was only a PREVIEW.

I really hope Space moves into 'great' territory in my mind before July 15, really I do... fingers firmly crossed.

The music played in the back of our seats. I can't tell you if it was new or not, 'cuz before today I had only gone on Space Mountain once in my lifetime. I really enjoyed the music though, and I am 80% that it is new (from what I've heard from other CM's at least).

Well the concept of a musical soundtrack for the ride is not new. There was an attempt to add music to the ride back when there was the huge TL remodel in the late nineties, but it was dropped for a reason I'm not quite sure about. The music now has been added back to the ride, but I don't know if it's the same song that was played years ago.

I didn't know it was ever dropped. After it was first added, I seemed to always have the music. It may have been dropped sometime before refurb, but it was on there for several years, at least. It was a special composition and performance by legendary "surf style" guitarist, Dick Dale.

Re the new music, I reported in another thread about a May 5th news interview:

Quote:
Imagineer (15 years) Chrissy Allen, the Show Producer for Buzz Lightyear AstroBlasters and the new Space Mountain, is being interviewed right now.

She said that Michael Giacchino, the composer for The Incredibles, did the scoring for the new Space Mountain music.

Somewhere online, I downloaded a cgi animation of the Space Mountain track with the surf guitar soundtrack. Anyone know what I am talking about?

I rode it as well. Loved it!! It was so smooth, like going 90 moh in a new car. You couldnt really tell how fast you were going. Went with three other CM's from my attraction, as well as my lead, and we all noticed the smoothness of it. It was fun. Can't wait to do it again!!
