I rode on Buzz Lightyear Today!

At the end of our shift this morning (ends at 6:40 a.m.) we were informed that cast members could ride until 8 a.m. It was a great ride!!! To the Universe and beyond!!!

It has been mentioned over at LaughingPlace, that the ride is up and operating for the general public today (of course, this is a soft opening, so the ride could close for adjustments, etc. at any time...), but I would walk by and check on the status of the attraction.

I just ran over during lunch and rode it twice in 30 minutes. Great ride and the line was getting longer as I left, otherwise I would have rode it again. They have signs up in front stating its a sneak preview and were actually telling people who were walking by that it was open. People just didn't notice the ride for awhile.

A couple of questions:

1. Where exactly is the attraction located, i.e., where do you enter, where do you exit?

2. Is this a "kiddie" ride, i.e., similar to Winnie the Pooh, or is it something a little more geared to all ages?

Help me, please!!!

1. It is in TomorrowLand where the CircleVision/Rocket Rods Entrance was.

2. It is an interactive ride for all ages, you use a space gun to shoot at targets while traveling thru this dark ride.

I'm sure once more of the locals get to ride they can post more.

It's a great ride for all ages. I'm 38 and I loved it and I'm sure my 4 & 5 year old daughters will love it to. Lots of happy kids and parents getting off it today.

Ok...here ya go.

Spoiler:
Most of the queue is outside near Ariels little autograph area. After you enter the front door of the inside queue (which is very short), you see a large toy story walkie talkie on your right which broadcasts basic toy story character chatter. The walls are painted with murals depicting scenes from the ride and one wall has the instructions on how to move the cars and shoot the laser guns. You go through a quick S shaped queue (maybe 15 feet total) and enter a round room where an animitronic Buzz explains your mission. There's a large etch-a-sketch that acts as the "mission display".

You then enter about a 30 foot long straight queue where you can see the ride vehicles immediately to your right. The ride is a standard omnimover where each car seats 2-3. There are laser guns on the left and right front of each car with a joystick in the middle. The guns can be pulled out about 2-3 feet with cords attached and the joystick allows you to move the car in a 360 degree circle.

You enter the first room and immediately begin firing at targets. Each "room" is very colorful (think lots of neon paint) and there are lots of targets with the triangle shaped targets having the most value. Your gun has a laser light on the end which you can use to help you shoot at the targets. Keep in mind that when there's alot of people shooting, it can be hard to figure out which laser is yours. As long as your pointing at the target, you should be able to hit it pretty easy. The targets light up when hit and your gun vibrates.

Each room is very cool and the next to last room is where you meet up with Buzz again and try to destroy Zurg and his superweapon. You then move to the final room, which only has a couple of targets and where Zurg has been captured and been put back in his "box/package". The ride ends and you see the scoring levels on a wall in front of you. You can compare your scores readout to figure out what level you scored at. There are 7 scoring levels...the best I got was level 5 (i missed level 6 by a couple thousand points).

As you exit, you can e-mail your score and a your on-ride picture to any e-mail address. I sent mine but it has not arrived yet (that was 2 hours ago).
Disney has done a fantastic job on this ride. All in all, a very fun ride with great repeatability. A welcome addition to Dland. Kids and adults will love it.

-Steve

PS, they took the tarps down from in front of Star Tours and you can see the new paint job. Basically it's white, with light blue trim and looks very nice.

Hey... I got to ride it too!! I was at DL early for a Cast Member photo and the attraction I work, and left at about 8:40 (9:00 opening)... Three of us ended over at Buzz just to check it out, and they were like "Hey guys. Wanna ride?" Who were we to turn down that kind of offer?!! It was really exciting. (All all the while, in our costumes.. That was pretty exciting as well...). We wanted to ride again, but they said they only had 2 minutes until they opened to the public. So yes, it sounded very much like a soft opening was going on...

And yes, the quality is definitely better than Pooh. If any of you have been on the one at WDW, its very similar....

Sigh. everyone bashing Pooh again. Isn't Pooh considered a lesser "ticket" value than Buzz??

I sped to Disneyland as soon as I could after work, but alas, the ride was 101. We ate dinner at RRPP hoping that the ride would be open by the time we were done, but no such luck.

*sigh*

I guess there's always tomorrow.

I thought I saw you and Tony there. Your colorful shirts always give you away. We arrived around 5:30 and left at around 7:30 and it still hadn't opened up. They said it would reopen eventually tonight but they didn't know when.
