We had my son's bday party yesterday, and he was THRILLED with the cake I made for him, (being a teenager now, he isn't easy to please)and I was pretty darn pleased with myself!

One of my wine pairings was a fairly common Chardonney. You can buy it at the grocery store. I mean, how special is that?

Totally not worth your time.

Well, actually, I don't like Chardonnay very much so right there you have me convinced.

I don't care for Chardonnay either . . .. give me a Pinot Grigio or Riesling any time.

Just because you can buy a wine at the grocery store doesn't mean it's not good and special.

I've bought both Banfi Rosa Regale and Princepessa Perlante at the grocery store - and I consider both of those 'not Gallo' (sorry Earnest and Julio, but you did that one to yourselves). In fact, neither could be found at the very decent wine store in town.

The husband has turned another mutual friend (she's a saint) into an anti-chardonnay person.

Reminds me, though, the husband had something last night that he'd had previously and really liked - mix of pinot grigio and sauvignon blanc grapes - Bertani Due Uve.

He loves those two grapes separately, so no surprise that he'd like the combo.

Well, see, I did specifically tell them I prefer old world to new world for wines and nothing overly oaky. It's quite pricey at the store and highly regarded. I just didn't care for it and was surprised to see it poured for me (plus trying to make AdK feel better). I could hardly force down the scallop it was served with.

I'm debating calling you out as a liar or going with the scallop part of the story to try to curb the CC traffic down the road.

Decisions, decisions.

In truth, I'm not a huge scallop fan (some kind of deficiency) but the beurre blanc and Tahitian vanilla sauce helped me get it down. Barely though. (See how I entirely forgot about it in my original post?)

As well you should be! I tied raffia on something this weekend; that's as far as my crafty skill set goes so I am MIGHTY impressed.

That's awesome!

My teenage daughter, who is a big fan of TNBC, wants to know if you'll make her one.

Do you like sushi? And I mean *real* sushi, not that California roll crap. If so, you might consider trying raw scallops, depending what it is about scallops you don't like. I like cooked scallops ok, but I *love* raw scallops. The flavor is different, and the texture is really tender.

I love sushi. But I've tried scallops nine ways from Sunday and it never works out. Maybe I had a bad one when I was younger and blocked it out?

I keep trying them because they are supposed to be divine and I feel like I just haven't met the "right" one yet, but no luck.

Okay, one exception is fried with cocktail sauce but that seems like a huge waste of a scallop.

I have never tried raw scallops when I have "real" sushi--definitely on the list for next time. They're not slimy?

This is such a CUTE video, and so very true...

It is a Norwegian PSA. Yes, it involves service dogs.

Or maybe you just don't like them. No biggie. More for me.

I don't think they are. I don't like them with any sauce at all. Just slices are good, which I dip in soy sauce and wasabi - pretty smooth. Or, I also like them rolled in masago - smelt eggs. But you've gotta be sure they're fresh.
