No flash photography please!

ok, so i need to gripe about this.. this being one of many issues I have a need to gripe about. and this flash photography thing has been quite irritating for us now for quite sometime. Its seems to happen quite a lot on POTC and I cant help but get irate at the people who still use the flash on thier camera after being told on most every single ride "no flash photography please". My hubby and I were visiting the park last Saturday when a group of 3 passengers sitting in front of us all had cameras and continued to use the flash throughout the ride. the couple behind us began to gripe and shouted out "no pictures!" which prompted one gentleman to attempt to turn off his flash. he fumbled for a few minutes and gave up, continuing to take flash pictures. my hubby then yelled "no flash photography!" but everyone continued thier flash use anyways... now i have been on POTC many a time but I still enjoy every ride as much as the last. I completely understand families that don't get to visit as often as others get excited and want photos to take home, but why spend all that time trying to see if the last one was fuzzy, or make sure you got that particular scene, etc., etc. etc, instead of really taking in all the little details of the ride and saying to yourself "wow, that was awesome, i wanna go again!"
and the display screens on the digital cameras are just as distracing as the flashes!
all im saying is people.. NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY PLEASE!

Don't forget the flashing necklaces. Urg!!!

I do think they should have a postcard stand near the entrance or exit, so people can get a postcard of the scenes. After all, they are going to be better than anything you can get from your camera.

Its nice when the CM when you board to remind guest to shut off their necklaces. I have to admit I have forgotten and its really helped.

I wonder if the people on your boat, just didn't care and took photos or if they didn't understand english? Either way, there should be something that can be done. Ive heard them say over the loud speaker no flash photography.

Oh my goodness. I had the same problem in December. I just about grabbed the people's cameras and threw them overboard. They would take a picture about every 3 seconds... serisouly. Throughout the WHOLE RIDE.

Your mileage may vary, but I have found that if you say, "No flash photography", to some people you just sound like a rule Nazi and they don't like being retold the rules and it sets up this confrontational situation. I have had much better response with, "Excuse me but the flash on your camera is blinding me."

I agree this might be non-confrontational way of approaching the situation, and I am the last person to start a fight in the happiest place on earth, but why be courtious to someone who does not have the courtesy in return to not use the flash? and after being told by someone who works there and is supposed to be that "rule nazi" if you will... I just think its disrespectful from the get go to not be aware of how your actions affect others around you. And yes, im sure my hubby yelling jarred people who were unaware of these rude flashers.. I personally dont yell... me.. i just gripe here on these forums..

Most of the time on things like that (no flash pictures, constant screams) it's people who can't speak English, think they're funny, or don't give a crud!

I just have one goal, stop the flash. I find that someone is more likely to stop bothering someone who politely mentioned being bothered than to respond to an appeal to a rule against flash photography.

Yes, that person may not be worthy of politeness because he is not being polite and yes maybe that person does deserve to be yelled at, but in my experience those approaches will be detrimental to my goal of stopping the flash and of having peace and enjoyment at the happiest place on earth.

I personally am angry with the teenagers (and even some adults) who text message on POTC. The screen is as much of a distraction as a camera flash.

The CMs on POTC used to get on a loudspeaker and tell you to stop using the flash. Is that not the case anymore? I guess they'd be saying it all the time and no one would enjoy the ride.

I once sat behind a family that brought flashlights because their kids are afraid of the dark. They were shining them so they wouldn't be scared. Here's a novel thought: if your kids are afraid of the dark, and will cry without flashlights, DON'T TAKE THEM ON DARK RIDES! A CM did announce just before the ship/fort battle to turn off the flashlights, but then I had a screaming 6 and 7 year old in front of my trying to climb out of the boat.

Anyway, I guess I can accept that at DL there will be a few unwanted flashes throughout the day. I definitely think digital cameras have made that worse, since before you'd just be wasting film if you took 40 pictures.

But I really don't understand the people who need to bring a telephoto lens and a monopod into Aladdin. Or people who experience their entire day via the LCD on their video camera. If you need these pictures, Disney sells postcards and books with great shots of Aladdin, POTC, and most other stuff.

Just enjoy the day with your kids, enjoy the show, make memories, and take a few pictures to supplement. Otherwise, I think you're really missing out on the experience.

I had the flash issue on POTC and the ride op kept interrupting the ride with his no flash announcement. I told the three young men no flash as well. Finally a tapped an offender on the shoulder and said "no flash." He stopped. Of course I was ready to take his head off so I'm sure that helped.

Yes they were from eastern Europe BUT, all over Europe it is very common to hear "No flash" in English so they were just being jack*@%$$es.

We also suffered a screaming child and a boatload of flashers ( ).
Just a quick suggestion, most digital cameras come with a 'sports' setting that will shoot multiple frames in quick succesion at a speed that seems to do ok on some of the brighter scenes on POTC without flash. I/ve been able to get POTC, some HM and a lot of IJ using this trick. Still have to turn off the flash manually on some cameras. Might help.

We had a ride on POTC at Chrismas where I was nursing my 4 month od DD and the people directly behind us kept taking flash pictures (and yes they did come over the loudspeaker and say no flash photography please numerous times, plus other people in our boat were also complaining). Well I had just put her on my shoulder to burp her when they took another picture and just at that time my DD let out a blood curling scream and the guy said to the girl next to him "they need to stop that baby from crying, I can't hear what's going on" (she has a set of lungs on her). So I turned around and said pretty nice (fake smile and all) "Oh she's crying because you decided to be so rude and once again decided to take a flash picture and it scared her", by this time she had quit crying. What they didn't know is she is a very gassy baby and had just passed some gas and it suprised her. Needless to say they quit taking flash pictures after that.

One of my pet peeves is people who totally cut in front of other people especially when someone who already been standing waiting long before someone else has shown up.
(had a family third in line for the Princess meet and greet especially several of the kids totally ran ahead past the family where second in line and me, and also the parent had climbing over the chains to be first to meet the Princess where I had given them a really dirty look and had told them that they don't cut in front of other people who showed up before you did.)

The main thing that I notice about people who take photos with a flash usually tends to be people with point and shoot cameras where these people just don't know how to take photos with them. These people just don't care about the everyone else who also on the ride and just want to have fun. Gee how much harm taking a photo with a flash could do (lol) just reach over and accidently knock their camera out of their hands and say don't you follow instructions. NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY YOU LOUSY %$#!

A couple of things...

I've experienced the continual flashes on the train inside the dioramas. We've actually made a game of counting how many flashes occur after the announcement is made. We once got up to 30 flashes across the entire train. My only solace is that when they look at the photos, all they will see is the flash reflection off the glass!

I imagine that upon exiting POTC, if you mention to a cast member that you were very disturbed by someone in your boat taking flash pictures, they would allow a re-ride. They would probably board you from the exit platform (where the wheelchair entrance is). Except on the busiest of days, the wait time is quite reasonable, so they would be likely to honor your request.

I wish that same rule applied to people that wont shut up, takes flash photos, uses the LCD panel of their camera, or decides to block your view during the fireworks. The fireworks is one of the best experiences you can have at disneyland and having it ruined is just a trip killer for me.

Probably you'd just keep riding and riding because it's almost never flash free.

YES! my ultimate pet peeve! The flash ruins the effects of the ride because it reveals all of the things that the lighting disguises. The thing I love the most about pirates is that real life is suspended after that first drop. The flashes take that away from me

I just got back from the park, and I swear there was a lightening storm in front of the Blue Bayou.

We sat in the back row of Pirates on Saturday night. The first four rows were apparently occupied by unemployed paparazzi, based on the number of flash photos they took constantly throughout the ride. Not one single cast member announcement, either.
