Candle Party

Anyone ever hosted or have been to a Candle light party? We are thinking of having one in early novemeber for my other halfs co worker. Just wondered what it was all about.

I have gone to 2 candle parties. My mother in law was the host of the first one and then her neighbor hosted one. It's similar to a tupperware party where people get together and the host and representative of the company from the area sell candles. The company that was at both of the parties I went to was CandleLight. It was nice. As I had left my check book at home, I didn't buy a stitch (which made hubby happy) at the first party. But I did purchase a beautiful lighthouse candle holder for a friend. at the next one.

my niece used to be a candle lite rep and her stuff was beautiful! It's along the lines of any other "home party" for a product except this one is about candles, candle holders, ect....and as with any other home party how successful it is depends on how many people actually show up that are actually considering purchasing any products and how good the rep is at demonstrating her products.... have fun!

I can't remember if the one I had was a Candle-Lite or a Party-lite.

Either way, the candles are great. I like the idea of them burning at a lower temp and I love the clear votives to burn in my Princess House holders. All you see is the flame.

I love the look and the smell for the winter.

Oh, and the parties are fun. You benefit more if you get outside orders and if you can get someone to book a party or two from you.

I've got an invite to one right now...but I think I'm going to pass on it. My thoughts - you can buy candles everywhere - usually for less money. They are pretty though - and do smell nice. But if you're looking for a "deal", I doubt you'll find it there.

Now, I love parties but not "parties" where things are sold.

In the past few months, I have turned down all invitations to "parties": a scrapbooking "party", a Pampered Chef "party", and one other (Tupperware, maybe).

Every last one of these "parties" was at a home I had never been inside. (In other words, I had never been to a party at this house.) Clearly, I was invited as a customer. No one asked if I wanted scrapbooking supplies or kitchenware or Tupperware. No, they invited me to a "party".

I ask you, is this a nice thing to do? Leave your Avon (or whatever) catalog with me but do not invite me to a "party".

That part has always sort of bugged me, too.

As a stay at home, people always hone in on me to become a dealer of whatever it is that is being demonstrated.

I did sell Tupperware once upon a time, but, I only did two parties. I did the rest book orders. I didn't like going into peoples homes at all.

On that same note, I give those women that I have seen credit
for being able to do just that. And, travel all over the county doing demonstrations. It just ain't gonna be me.

Anywho, I haven't had a party in a long time. I am getting stronger to turning them down.

It is a good feeling.

But, I have to say, if I had the money I would buy a load of candles to be stocked up.

Well I'm a sucker for stuff like that. I'll buy anything if I like it. As far as I know he is only inviting people that everyone knows. We are also having lots and lots of cocktails and apetizers is that normal for a party such as this?

I have been to several of these parties, Candle-lite, Party-lite, home interiors, Creative Memories, Discovery toys, Tupperware, lingerie (?!), and more. Thankfully, since my neighbor moved away six months ago, there haven't been any. She was the eternal hostess of these dang things. Ugh. She lives about a half hour away and I have gotten 3 invites to more of her parties, but I've declined them all.

The only one I was into was Discovery Toys, as a mom and as a teacher. I had a party, where $400 of product was sold. That meant I got to spend a certain amount of money on DT, free and clear, plus someone booked a party, so I got half off one item. The item I chose to be half-off was the start-up kit which cost $99 for $350 worth of the most popular Discovery Toys. I bought a few other things, too. I spent $5 of my own money. That was it. That was two years ago, but I can still order DT myself, with no rep. and I pay 20% less. It's way worth it. But I couldn't get into selling it. Not my cup of tea.

But the other parties I feel are somewhat of a rip-off. Sorry. I have bought a product or two at almost all of them and besides Tupperware and Creative Memories, I felt like I got cheated. I didn't feel like the quality of the candles was any better than ones I bought at stores for half the price. They didn't burn longer, that was for sure.

I have been invited to several candle parties...I don't go.

My daughter is an Assistant Manager at Illuminations...the "trendy" candle stores around the US (there is one at DTD). She did work at the one here at Stanford Mall... but now is is one at the Chicago store...on Michigan Ave (in some mall there...she's going to school out there).

We have candles coming out the wazoo...

**pssst...I am not into candles....shhh....don't tell her that....!

. I mean I like them and all...but this is ridiculous!!!

Oh! I love candles!!! I love the scented ones mostly.

The family teased me when I bought one scented 'snow'. Hey, it did smell 'cool'.

I don't know, my candles I bought from Party-lite, while not cheap, did burn pretty well. The only ones that I was disappointed in were the beeswax votives. They burned down too quickly.

But, they were very pretty in the holder I had.

I combine from different parties. I use the candle holders from Princess House combined with the candles from Party lite. Hey, now that I think about it, the candles that disappointed me were from Princess House!!!

What is really pretty are the little pins that go into the candles. Basically, they are like earrings. So, if you see some cool earrings, try sticking them in your candle.

Your food idea sounds great!! I like that because it shows the people that you aren't just inviting them to buy. I enjoy the parties. I love the show.

I've attended the parties you guys have mentioned above: Pampered Chef, Tupperware, Party-lite, Creative Memories and Longaberger. In fact, I jut received a Creative Memories scrapbooking party invitation this morning! Longaberger and Party-lite are my favorite ones for these types of parties. Longaberger baskets are gorgeous, but extremely expensive. Party-lite candles are a bit pricey, too, but they have longevity and they smell delicious! In fact, I wouldn't mind purchasing the Snowball candle! It's shaped just like a snowball, it kind of looks flaky, like coconut, on the outside, and it smells like peppermint! Really cute for the Holidays!

I think it's fine to have these parties as long as the mood is fun and the host doesn't put the hard sell on you! That's when I wanna bolt- if I'm cornered to buy goods!

See the important thing here is and the only reason why I agreed to this is because I think of it as a social event among friends rather then a selling event. I love having get togethers so I'm sure it will be fun even though it's not really my party but my others.

I have to admit the cocktails was my idea of a good "sell" hehehe.
I've only smelled the choclate candle and that one was fantastic. Not bad in price I think 15 bucks or something.

There is a chocolate candle?!?! I need one!

The peppermint snowball candle was $20.00, which wasn't really bad at all, considering it was one big snowball! I'd really like to buy it. The Party-lite Christmas stuff is adorable! I have a little porcelain snowman figurine, and inside you place a tealight, so it illuminates! It's sooo cute!

Cocktails + Party-lite= a very good time!!

If I was in Northern California, I would have to crash your party! Haha! But at least you'd make a bundle off of me!

This is why I wasn't very successful at selling Mary Kay stuff - My ethics did not allow me to promote a skin care "class", when it was really the makeup equivalent of a tupperware party. Sure, I did a few side sales, the products are good, but the whole party thing didn't click with me.

I've been to tupperware parties that my friends had...didn't buy anything, went to a creative memories party that my ex-roommates step-mother was doing for fun, don't have the talent for that, and was invited to a lingere party my friends mom was having (didn't go to that). A candle party? I dunno. I love candles, love to burn them (but then I gotta buy the ones that are not to cute to burn). I go to White Barn or Yankee Candle to buy candles. They're good and cheap and don't kill my alleriges.

I have decided I can't buy from either Party-lite or Candle-lite... a) I spend too much b) things arent always as they seem.

Every year my sister has a Stampin' Up party. I must admit, I usually drop $150 of my money plus $50-75 of my mom's on stamping stuff. (this is her present to both myself and my sister, we pick out what we want, within certain limits, and she pays for it)

Her party is in 2 weeks, I can't go, but I already have the catalog and have filled out the order form!!!
