Just announced on a special report on KABC not more than 4 mins. ago. One of the trains of the Big Thunder ride derailed. There are serious injuries requiring Anaheim FD to set up a triage area on the Big Thunder trail between the entrance and exit areas of the ride.

www.abc7.com is reporting 7 minor and 1 critical. They have an aerial photo of the ambulance and triage tarp in front of the queue.

And now www.nbc4.tv is reporting that "A locomotive broke loose from a train..."

Police Investigate Incident

POSTED: 12:29 p.m. PDT September 5, 2003
UPDATED: 12:40 p.m. PDT September 5, 2003

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- A locomotive broke loose from a train on Disneyland's Big Thunder Mountain Railroad attraction Friday, injuring at least 11 people, police said.

Additional information wasn't immediately available, police Sgt. Rick Martinez said.

The roller coaster accident occurred at 11:20 a.m., Disneyland spokeswoman Ruthy Flores said.

Television helicopters showed a triage unit set up near the ride and one person being wheeled to an ambulance on a stretcher.

One critically injured person was transferred to UCI Medical center, according to broadcast reports.

Anaheim police reported to the scene to investigate.

I'm glad to see that one of the first news outlets on the scene with pictures was KABC. You'd half expect them to stay away from it to protect the company.

Unhappy Big Thunder Accident: Any MPers @ Disneyland today?

Were there any MPers @ DL today when the accident happened?

If so, I hope they weren't on Big Thunder...

MSNBC reported that the one critical person is an adult male, and has been transported to the UC Irvine medical facilities. They expect 5 more guests to be taken to the hospital also.

If the locomotive actually derailed, it makes you wonder if the injured guests were actually on the ride, or did the locomotive fly off into the queue?
