    Cool Walking

I know that we have had treads about local hotels, but I am wondering if anyone has average walking times from hotels.

It really depends on the person. If you want distances, that is easier. I know my kids can walk Hojo's to the Esplanade in about 8 minutes. Me, its closer to 12 (I am a SLOW walker.) Its all about how fast you walk. This post I found to be very helpful.

After you click on one of his links, you can erase his recording and make your own to see how far it is to your hotel.

Ones I can give you a good guess:
Park Place Inn and Park Vue Inn: 5 mins (depending on the light.)
Tropicana and Desert Inn and suites: 6 mins (depending on the light.)
Del Sol Inn and Carousel Inn: 7 mins (depending on the light.)
Camelot Inn, Fairfield, and Best Western Anaheim Inn: 8 mins (depending on the light.)

The Anaheim Plaza, Ramada, Hojos, Candy Cane Inn about 10 mins.

Residence Inn about 20 mins, Motel 6 about 21 minutes, La Quinta about 25, Hilton and Marriott about 15 minutes, shorter if you can catch the tram in the Timon lot.

Using the gPed site, it is roughly .9 miles. How fast do you walk?

Average walking speed is 3 MPH (this varies widely based on height, weight, age, etc.). So if you have an average pace, .9 miles would be about 18 minutes.

My family stayed at the Super-8 around the corner off Harbour, on Katella, and the walk was about 15 minutes to the front gates.

Of course, at the end of the day with sore feet that 15 minute walk seemed like an hour, LOL!

same here, stayed there in 2004, took 15 mins in morning, at least 20 coming back. I figured it's a good mile from the gates. Also stayed at Del Sol, good central location on Harbor. I guess it all depends on the lights.

Nah, definitely NOT a mile walk, probably 1/2 mile at best. It was a nice walk though, with the tree-lined boulevard.

Its funny, because yeaaaaaaaaaaaars ago, my first visits were stays at the old Jack and Jill Motel, on whatever the Disneyland Drive used to be called on the west side ( north-south) of the park. J&J was on Ball Road near the I-5, at the very northwest corner of the DL park compound.
THAT hike, from the gates to the hotel seemed like the Bataan Death March in comparison, but really couldn't have been much further.
I remember going through a new pair of socks each day--from brand new to thread-bare from the walking we did.

Using Gmaps-pedometer, the Super 8 on Katella is .75 miles from the esplanade.

And using the 3 MPH average walking speed, .75 miles is.... 15 minutes.

It takes our family maybe thirty minutes to walk to Clementine location hotels or any of the ones past Katella. We have strollers and preschoolers along. We almost always stop at 7-11 or another shop along the way and of course we have waits at the intersections waiting for lights to change. We aren't in a hurry and let the younger ones set the pace. We enjoy the walk and scenery along the way. It may be hard to believe but after the all day start and stop shuffle of waiting in lines and in the crowds at DLR it feels really good to have a midnight stroll to stretch those legs on the way back to the hotel.

We will be staying at the Holiday Inn at the corner of S Walnut & Ball. What would be the best walking route to the park entrance? From the map, it looks like a good mile of walk at least. How much distance would the monorail save me?

I wish I had found this forum before I booked the hotel. I have since seen recommendations of hotels much closer.

I have stayed at the Extended Stay a few trips ago, but never thought to time it. I love the walk back at night. It is kinda a time to calm down after the park.

Does any one know if you can cut through the new garden walk from the "Extended Stay" on Clementine?

I think the best way is to walk down Walnut, left on Magic Way, then through the DTD parking lot into DTD. So taking the Monorail would help a little. We stayed at that HI last June, it's very nice. We didn't realize how close a walk it is until we saw a family leave the hotel pushing a stroller; we loaded up into our car drove over to DTD and saw them walking through the parking lot when we were leaving our car. haha... because of lights, etc. it took us the same length of time to drive going down Ball and in on Dland Drive (we didn't know where DTD parking was).
If I'm not at work, then I'm probably making cards for Operation Write Home -- helping heroes stay connected with family & friends.
