Stroller and ECV Rates Going Up
Disney has announced that effective this Sunday (April 6) there are price increases for strollers and ECVs.
$15 for single - $13 per day for Length of Stay rental (Up from $10/$8)
$31 for double - $27 per day for Length of Stay rental (Up from $18/$16)
ECVs you will pay $65 but get back $20 when you return the key, so the net cost will be $45 per day.
This is the first increase in these prices in over three years. Wheelchair rental fees are not changing.
Disneyland Trips: 13 trips for 49 nights.

WOW those are steep increases!!! Thanks for the heads up.

That is just insane. Why would they almost double the price of a double stroller?
I can't imagine paying $31 to rent a stroller.

Wow! Those are some steep jumps in price.
Any discount for Disney Visa card holders?

Guess my kids better learn to love to walk, LOL!! We were thinking of getting one for the four year old, but may re-think that now for at least some of the days.

You know, for a same price of a 5 day rental, you can get a nice portable one that you can use outside the parks as well. Heck for a little more, you can get a nice fold-up one that is lightweight yet durable.
Sure, the prices have been static for three years but to shoot them up that much overnight, without any obvious reason, is excessive.

I think you may have hit the nail on the head. A lot of the rentals, especially of the doubles, have been for kids 8 or 9 years old who should be walking.

Oh I have no problem having the 7 year old walk and we were planning that all along. The 4 year old, though, I was thinking a stroller in Epcot, especially, would be nice. This may mean he lucks out, though, maybe I'll grab a second-hand umbrella for him (we have sold/given away all of ours--he never needs a stroller at home) and then he'll have one everyday.
He'd like that, anyway.

I can't believe they have jacked up the prices that much for stroller rentals. We always liked using the double strollers at all the parks. We are going for 6 days in June, and still have multilple stroller days left over from our last trip, I wonder if they'll make us pay the difference? We will definitely be bringing our own this time around which stinks, just one more thing to pack. I don't understand why they would raise the prices so much, do they not want people to rent from them?

I have to say that I noticed this quite a bit on my just completed trip. I'm guessing the really high price hike is an effort to reduce some of these huge strollers from the crowded parks.

Well, this just bites! $35 for an ecv was already a lot for me, so I can go with my kids.

My theory is that the strollers are a pita and they're trying to get out of that business. Even on my last trip I noticed the red umbrella strollers they're now selling just about everywhere for around $50.

The price is lower (and better ECVs) if you rent from an off-site vendor. Check out page 2 in the link in my signature.

I'm not sure how that would work, since I am a local. It's not like I could have them deliver to my hotel or anything.

I am sorry you can't use my information, but this is a Disney World forum and your signature shows you live in a suburb of Disneyland. I thought you were taking a cross-county trip.

OOPS! I saw the thread when I hit "new posts", which shows threads from every forum. I noticed the ECV part and it caught me because I was just about to go to DL and rent one again. Sorry I didn't double check. Thanks for setting me straight.

Judge not lest ye be judged, Cheshire...I find this comment extremely snarky, especially since I have read other threads where you defend any and all adults on ECVS. My son has asthma, and does LOOK perfectly healthy. I will put him in a stroller as long as he will fit, so that I can avoid him exerting himself in the Florida humidty. How do you KNOW these children are 8 or 9? Have you peeked at their BC? Could they be big for their age? My neighbors son was in a size 7 when he was 3...not fat, just tall. I really tried to stay out of this debate, but I had to say something. I will go back to mostly lurking now.

Last year when my children were 5 and 8 they mostly walked. However, a couple of days my DD had a stroller (didn't sit in all the time) and a couple of times after lunch when the children were flagging, it was boiling and we had lots left to do, we picked up a double stoller for both of them. I tend to agree that most of the time they should be walking, and for the new prices this year they will be walking for all of the time (!), but I have absolutely no shame in saying we used a stroller for them a few times. Frankly, there were days when if someone had offered to push me round I'd have been more than willing. I don't believe for a single second the price increase is to keep older children out of stollers, I think it is purely to make money.

My kids walked most of the time on our last trip, but, particularly at Epcot, they got really tired after several hours. My six year old runs about the 5th percentile for height and weight; she's perfectly healthy and developmentally normal, just tiny. A lot of her kindergarten classmates, who are several months younger, can easily pick her up. With her little strides, it's a lot more walking than with a bigger child. If we don't rent a stroller, and we probably won't at those prices, we'll probably just spend less time in the parks, especially in the evenings. We will be too tired to carry the kid around, when she is exhausted. The effect will be that we will spend less money on snacks and shopping.

Thanks for the info. We are going in May, and we told our sister in law to just rent a stroller at the Parks for her 3 & 5 year old. She wouldn't have been to happy with the sticker shock. I'm just glad my three are past stroller age.

There's weight restrictions on the strollers. It's difficult for the older kids to fit, wether by height or weight. Our son was JUST on the limit and we went for it. We kinda folded him in it (he's pretty tall for his age).
I think I'd end up buying an umbrella stroller and just leaving it if the dollars made sense. It's quite expensive.
I do think that this was a supply and demand pricing issue, for the most part.
Working hard for that next WDW trip! December 2013
