I would like to recommend Tortilla Jo's at Downtown Disney. We chose to make a Priority Seating reservation and upon arrival, were immediately seated in a lovely booth. The restaurant ambiance is beautiful and spacious. There is upstairs seating, but on the night we were there, I believe a private party was setting up, so it was closed. There is also outdoor seating, but it was a bit chilly (February), so we were pleased to be inside, facing out to the patio and Downtown Disney. Tortilla Jo's accepts the AP 10% discount. This is "high end" Mexican cuisine, and I would say it is far better than the chains such as Acapulco or El Torito.
As to the service, it was excellent! It certainly lends to the feel of being in a high end restaurant. Our waitress was very friendly, quickly attended to us upon our arrival, took our drink orders and kept us well supplied with tortilla chips (hot, crisp and fresh) and salsa. I subscribe to a "low carb" lifestyle, so Mexican food can be difficult for me. But again, the waitress was happy to explain several of the entrees and offer substitutions that worked for me.
I ordered the Chipotle Red Currant Pork Chop, a Porterhouse pork chop topped with red currant chipotle demi-glace, and I got a double order of the sauteed spinach instead of the Yukon Gold mashed potatos with chives. The price was $17.95. The pork chop was just succulent, perhaps one of the best I've ever had, and the sauce was absolutely delicious, with a lovely touch of spice! I was extremely happy with my order! As a comparison, my friend had ordered the Molasses-Brined Bayou Pork Chop 10 oz. chop, pan-seared and topped with sauted Granny Smith apple wedges. $25.99 at the Blue Bayou in January. Although, she thought it tasted fine, she did complain that it was quite dry. So, in my opinion, you are getting better quality at Tortilla Jo's at a price of about 30% less than the Blue Bayou!
My friend ordered a Vegetarian Black Bean burrito; a Flour tortilla filled with beans, rice, onions, cilantro, and Monterey jack cheese, served with sour cream, pico de gallo, and guacamole and salsa verde. $10.95. This entree was enormous. Again, it was beautifully prepared and presented and came with rice and beans. She could only finish about half of it, so this item could be easily split by two adults. Our other friend ordered a grilled steak burrito, similar to above with salsa roja for $13.95. He thought it was wonderful and also did not finish.
It was my friend's birthday, but we were so full, we just ordered coffees and didn't even have dessert! I will definitely be back to Tortilla Jo's and want to try some of their other specialities. I was really pleased to "discover" this place as for the most part, I'm left rather cold about the dining options at DLR. I think this is a major step up in quality and environment. Plus I think it is a good value, which can be enjoyed by the whole family.
I hope you include Tortilla Jo's in your planning for your trip!
