The flag ceremony takes place each EVENING at about 430pm (times may vary, check the calendar.) The crowd isn't that big and you should be able to find a spot where you can see easily. It's done at the flag pole in Town Square in front of the Main St Train Station. What happens really depends on who is there. Usually the band plays or they play recorded music, sometimes Dapper Dans are there, and the voice over requests vets come forward, the flag is lowered and folded. Generally, takes about 5-7 mins.

It's definitely worth watching. Flag retreat is held in Town Square by the main flag pole. It's held in the late afternoon, usually between 4:30 and 6:30, depending on the time of year. For the time on a given day, you can check Disneyland's official website for that particular day (they've started putting it on their schedule) or ask a cast member or at City Hall if you're in the park. There is generally a crowd, but not a huge crowd, and on special days, like Memorial Day, there might be more people. The ceremony has changed a bit over the past few months and can include elements like the Disneyland Band or the Dapper Dans or just recorded music. It just depends.

If you go to this trip report of mine from last October and scroll down the page past the Halloween and Christmas merchandise, you'll get to a photo report of what you might expect.

    Good thing, too.

will my 4 and 6 year olds enjoy it or is it something that is only for adults and older children?

I think the younger ones would enjoy it more than the teens, who are usually eager to just get to the next ride. For younger ones, try and get close so they are more upfront.

My toddler was fascinated the first time we saw it. We went back again another day, but (like with the Steve Martin-donald duck movie), she didn't want to see/hear it again.
