Preferred Seating - what to expect?

Our family is going to DL next month. We are staying at the GCH. We went through the Disney Travel Company so we have those Preferred Seating vouchers. What is that about? We plan to use them for Aladdin. How early do we need to get there? It says 30 mnutes, is that accurate? Where are the preferred seats? On the first level or where we have to climb all those steps? Is there a show which is less crowded that others (we will be taking a 3 year old and 9 month old)? Just looking for people who have used these vouchers to share their experience. Thanks for the advice!

The seats are on the first level. No steps. Get there about 30 minutes early. You will line up in a queue at the entrance to the Hyperion (not around back) and they will take you in second (VIP seating is first and there's usually about 20-30 people there.)
    Planning 3 trips at once...

We booked through AAA last year and had PS. There is a cm at the front who takes your pass. When we entered the theater there was no one in there. We were able to sit wherever we wanted and chose middle front row.Shortly after everyone was seated they allowed the regular crowd in.
