    Potties-- which kind to get?

My almost 22-month-old daughter is nearing the time, so do any of you have any advice on which brand or type is best? I was told that some kids prefer the stand alone kind, while others prefer the kind that fits on toilet seats, so I should get both. I could get one of the 2-in-1 or 3-in-one models. Help, please!

We started with the stand-alone type but ds quickly moved to the regular toilet insert that sits on the regular toilet.

Fisher Price has a great 2-in-1 that we used for DS. My fave part of it is that he still uses the bottom part as a step to get to the sink! He mostly used the seat part in the toilet. I have one of the cushy seats that fits in the toilet seat for DD. I like this one because the opening is larger and I don't have to wory about "adjusting" her depending on what she's doing like I did with DS.

    Thanks!
(Note to self: Fisher Price 2-in-one.)

    Any other opinions anyone?

I just wish potty training was going smoothly. At first, he was so happy to go and use the potty...this was almost a year ago. We started with the sticker method which was okay but then he started going two drops and expecting a sticker while the rest would just go in his pants.

We've had at least two setbacks where he had stomach viruses that were so bad we had to put him back in pull-ups ...(which he uses like diapers) Currently, he doesn't even seem to care if he's wet or dirty...and goes about his usual day. We started with the standalone potty and now just use the insert because it seemed to be what he preferred. He will run and sit on the potty and either go on the floor (ew), or in his pants. He turned three in November...I'd like to have him trained soon...he starts preschool in September.

Calling Adrienne....mom to three boys, advice?

Max used the Baby Bjorn potty and it was great! Just the perfect size, comfortable to sit on (some don't have enough "cheek area" to help them feel comfortable sitting w/o feeling like they're falling in), comes in great color choices, and best of all, it is just two pieces without a bunch of little crevices to clean out.

After the Bjorn, he went to a flip up seat that fits on the regular toilet, it just flips up and out of the way with the toilet seat cover when an adult needs to use the toilet and flips down for the kid. No need to store it anywhere and take it on and off the toilet each time.

Okay, I may have been wrong. DH and I were discussing it and he thinks it was Safety 1st brand. (He can't remember his mom's birthday, but he remembers the brand of potty seat we used for our son!)

For DS we used graham cracker cookies (we got a big tub of alphabet/number cookies from Costco, he was trained before the tub was empty!). He had to go in the potty, flush the toilet, put his step away, wash his hands and turn out the lights before getting a cookie. Since he had a harder time remembering when to go poo, he got one cookie for going pee and three for poo. When he started going a full day without an accident, we moved it up to a few cookies at the end of the day for no accidents. Then we just kept pushing it back til he no longer needed an incentive!

With DD we're just letting it happen. With the baby on the way, I'm not going to push it! Eventually we'll focus on the training more, but I'm just not in a hurry!

I can get my 3-year-old daughter to pee on her potty first thing in the morning if her night diaper is dry. Other than that, she has no interest in being on the potty. Every once in a while, she wants to sit on the potty downstairs (we have an upstairs Pooh one which is very cute, and a downstairs plain one which is bo-ring), but I don't think she's ever done anything in it.

We used the basic Bjorn potty (just one piece, smaller than the bigger one). Ultimately got two, one for each floor of the house.

Went perfectly, and when he didn't/doesn't want to use the potty, he uses the toilet (he holds himself up on the toilets at home, but I hold him if we're on a public toilet).

It went smoothly; he never had a fear of flushing, not even auto-flushers (knock wood), and if he has to go, he will go! He's not the biggest fan of the "just in case" potty trips, though.

We started with the stand alone, but my daughter moved quickly to our regular toilet. Ever since she had to go in a public restroom, she has liked using our toilet better and without her small ring as well. So, I guess it just totally depends on what your child is more comfortable with.

A friend recommended this potty to us for taking to the park.

It folds up so small you can put it in your diaper bag, and it's great to use at the park when there are no bathrooms around. We also keep it in the car for emergencies as well.

We always get the insert for the big potty. My youngest is 2 and we are close to being potty trained. He wouldn't even think of going on the "baby potty". I'm sure 3 big brothers helped with that part

We let our dd choose her own. We really milked it...she was such a big girl, she could go potty in the potty seat, she could choose which one she wanted...

Eventually we ditched the diapers and told her they were gone she'd just *have* to use the potty. She got a sticker for each successs, and 5 stickers got a reward. She asked for diapers. She loved making flowers appear. (Lovely idea, huggies, but it backfired)

LOL -- I just heard a similar story. A friend's little boy had the training pants that turn cold when wet. He liked the cold diaper thing, so he'd wet them on purpose to keep cool.
