    Ugly Betty

Does anybody watch Ugly Betty? I love this show and nobody at my work seems to watch it so I never get to talk about it. Last night's episode was the best yet, I think. What do you think? Marc is the best!

When Ugly Betty first premiered, I thought it was a great show. I liked how the main character was plain, poor, ordinary, was belittled by her elite coworkers and she didn't let it get to her. I also like her Scottish friend who works in "The Closet".

Then we got a bunch of far out plot lines and man who faked his death and came back looking like Rebecca Romijn. I don't like the show much anymore.

There was a thread here about Ugly Betty a while back. I was one of the show's early fans, and I still think it's fun.

I love Vanessa Williams' character, and her clothes . I still get a kick out of the actress who plays Christina, the Scottish lass. I'd like to see Salma Hayek return for more guest roles, and I liked when, in the early shows, she was an actress in the background telenovelas, I thought that was clever.

I agree that last night was a good episode, and Marc was too fun. I also enjoyed seeing Patti LuPone as his mom, since I haven't seen much of her in recent years and we're from the same neck of the woods (but I'm not talented or famous ).

Like Klutch, I don't like the Rebecca Romijn story line. It's just dumb, so that's when I fold laundry .

I like Ugly Betty too. I try to remember that it's an over-the-top comedy. Each character is exaggerated for effect. But my favorite moments are when they "get real." My favorite character is her nephew Justin.

Justin is definitely so much fun to watch. The episode where he acts out Hairspray for his parents on the subway was just the best ever.

And I miss the telenovelas too. It was fun to see Selma Hayek in them!

I love the Mark/Amanda interaction. They're the best "couple" on the show in my opinion, although I'm still waiting for the moment Betty and Henry get their act together and hook up!

Totally agree!! Justin is my favorite character-the Hairspray enactment was the best, including the father's response to the complainer. (I had read that he and America and the mother are constantly singing Broadway tunes on the set, so this fit right in, as well as the time that Henry got tickets to Wicked cuz he heard her singing or humming the score in the elevator.) Loved the Mark/Amanda Thanksgiving episode when they tried on all the clothes and got drunk. They are so funny, even though they are mean to Betty. Vanessa Williams is so good at being mean and stuck up. Loved when she got stuck on the streets with the real people and the hookers. It was sooo funny in the orthodontist episode that everyone assumed that he was Henry, and it was so obvious that Henry cared about Betty not the girlfriend. Then this episode when he knew all the answers to her favorite things, and that her mother used to read her Cinderella.
Foodie, if you look back in this section you will see an old Ugly Betty post that you might enjoy reading, but it is never bad to get us all talking about the show again.

I looked before I posted to see if there was already an Ugly Betty thread to post to and couldn't find it. Where is it?

I just love the show. I howled last week, when Amanda was very rude to the woman at the designer party, and the woman got back at her by sending over that absurdly tight dress, and then the bizarre hat, and Amanda made a total fool of herself wearing the dress. The ending of the show this week was rather sweet, when Betty was supportive of Mark, when he "came out" to his mother, even though he had been unkind to her. Betty is both smart and wise, and I love how her boss could not get along without her.
