Starting Friday, hundreds of mailboxes across the country -- including four San Francisco -- will be dressed up to look like your favorite Star Wars droid, R2-D2.

It's all part of an unprecedented partnership between the Bay Area's Lucasfilm Ltd. and the U.S. Postal Service. For the next three weeks, 400 mailboxes will be converted in 200 cities across the country, but the purpose of the stunt is abundantly unclear.
