Can you take a child through the line ride and switch there so your not away from your group that whole time, or no? I really want to take my son though Space Mt, but know he can't ride.

It all started with a mouse, and Tom Sawyers Island. :::wink, wink, nudge, nudge, say no more:::
Not really, unless you want to walk thru and exit with him. Problem with this is the child is now on the entry side, the Space ride has a narrow frame to launch without issues. It would be difficult to line it up so you are entering the rocket in the same spot the other person is exiting, handing the child across the rocket to the other parent and board in time for a launch in the time frame allowed.
Planning 3 trips at once...
Why can't he ride? Is it because he's too short or because he doesn't want to?
If it's because he's too short, they won't allow him in the line in the first place.
If it's because he doesn't want to, they won't stop you from waiting because they won't be able to tell, but you won't be able to actually "swap" - you'll have to exit when you get to the front of the line.

For that ride I'd just make sure the group had fast passes so their wait was as short as possible, and then find fun things to do while waiting.
Does anyone know if that big rotating ball is a constant outside of space mountain? My son LOVED playing with that thing while we waited. And he had a sighting of Buzz (I thought it was his first time seeing Buzz, but it turned out he and DH had just been on Buzz when I thought they'd gone on Astro Orbitors), and played with the other children around the big rotating ball...with all that going on, the time went by pretty fast!
Indiana Jones ride, on the other hand, was just a big long wait the first time we went. It was our first ride, and the rest of the family went off and stood in an interminable line while I just sat and sat and sat with DS.Learned my lesson, get up and SEE stuff!
(and then the childswap doesn't even get you in that far to Indiana Jones...)
