DCL Coming back to Los Angeles in 2008

Looks like DCL will be coming back to Los Angeles in the Summer of 2008.

    http://www.portoflosangeles.org/Boar...enda010407.htm

    See Item 12.

No official announcement from Disney yet, but I expect to hear it in the next couple of weeks.

Never argue with stupid people. They just drag you down to their level, and then beat you with experience.
I will believe it is a crisis when the people claiming it is a crisis start acting like it is a crisis.
I prefer to let George Lucas disappoint me in the order he intended.

SUMMARY: The proposed action will grant Magical Cruise Company, Limited, dba Disney Cruise Line, a permit that will grant berthing of cruise ships to embark and disembark passengers and luggage and provide for storing of ships with goods, wares, fuel, and merchandise at Berths 91-93 at Los Angeles World Cruise Center from May 1, 2008 through September 15, 2008.
Betsy may get her wish for a Panama cruise then...

That is the best news!! After our brief cruise on the Wonder we can't wait to go again. Its just so expensive to fly to Florida!!

Hope the rumour about the third ship is also true.

I really want to see how the new cruise ship for the West coast will look compared to the current ones. I know for now the westcoast will just be using one of the two they have but they are working on a new ship that will be just for the Pacific.

I hope that Florida gets a new ship, and they give us the Magic. Afterall, Disneyland was the original park, so it would make sense to have the original boat here too.

    (That's my ultimate dream, anyway.)

I would imagine that the Magic will be the ship that comes to California next year. Wouldn't it be too soon for the new ship to be ready?

But where will the itineraries take us? I hope for Alaska! OK, or maybe Hawaii...that would be very nice too!

    From the proposed permit:

DCL proposes to operate a 1,754-passenger vessel from Los Angeles for weeklong sailings to Mexico beginning in May 2008.

As I understand it (with some inside help), the plan is to do this every summer until the third ship is built and remain in the Pacific Ocean full time.

I think the plan is to put the ship somewhere new every summer, but I don't think they are necessarily planning to bring the ship here every summer. But who knows - there's so much rumor and speculation flying around, including the whole "3rd ship" thing.

Ya it will be some time before we see the 3rd ship but I am just wondering how they will make it different since this one would be going to warm and cold places.

Well since there isnt a "private" island to land at maybe they will need to have more on deck entertainment/swimming/recreation options.

Maybe even some sort of partially enclosed deck area for cool weather swimming?

    Oh, happy day!

I had hoped the Magic (or Wonder or "new ship") would return to California! I sailed on the West Coast Cruise in Summer 2005 and will be there in 2008!!

Hmm...they announced the 2005 West Coast cruises in April 2004, right? So maybe schedules will be released this March or April?

I heard a rumor that the new ship is already contracted and will be ready by the end of the decade. The rumor said that it will be built to withstand the extremes of travel to British Columbia and Alaska, which the current ships are not. I already have my fourth disney cruise in the past two years planned and with it coming to the west coast, we may have to book at least three of those in 2008. Yay for DCL!

Looks like the itineraries will be released at a press conference on January 17th, with booking opening January 31st. Hope that holds true... I'm seriously thinking about a westbound repo!

Honestly? I'm relieved that the ship will be only doing the Mexico itinerary. (We did it in 2005, and have no desire/need to do it again.)

I would be tempted/torn if they were going to Alaska when what I really had had in mind was the Caribbean for our next cruise.

No worries then! Back to Plan A! The Caribbean it is! Arrrggh!

I booked right through Disney ... but AAA has some good deals, too (like onboard credits).

    Disney Cruise Line Press Release

CELEBRATION, Fla. (Jan. 18, 2007) – Disney Cruise Line announced today that the Disney Magic cruise ship will return to the West Coast for the summer of 2008 to once again offer its highly popular seven-night Mexican Riviera sailings.

Disney Cruise Line developed this special itinerary in response to overwhelmingly positive feedback about its original 2005 West Coast sailings and requests from guests who want to see the ship once again departing from the Port of Los Angeles.

“Through Disney Cruise Line, we are able to offer people a different way to vacation with Disney outside of our theme parks, and we can take our ships to various parts of the world, providing new audiences with immersive Disney experiences,” said Jay Rasulo, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. Beginning May 25, 2008, the Disney Magic is scheduled to sail 12 consecutive seven-night cruise vacations from the Port of Los Angeles to the Mexican Riviera ports of Cabo San Lucas, Mazatln and Puerto Vallarta.

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said, “The Disney Magic experience is unique, and it is only fitting that it return to the port of such a unique city, Los Angeles. The West Coast experience that Disney will offer exclusively out of the Port of Los Angeles will generate much business and tourism revenue that will bolster our local economy.”

The itinerary for the Mexican Riviera sailings is as follows:

    2008 West Coast Itinerary
    Departing May 25; June 1; June 8; June 15; June 22; June 29; July 6; July 13; July 20; July 27; Aug. 3; Aug. 10.

Disney Cruise Line President Tom McAlpin said, “When we launched our first Disney Cruise Line Mexican Riviera sailings in 2005, the guest reaction to the itinerary was tremendous. We have a significant Disney Cruise Line fan base on the West Coast, and we look forward to taking the Disney Magic back to the Port of Los Angeles in 2008.”

Significant enhancements have been made to the Disney Magic since its original West Coast sailings in 2005. Today, guests can enjoy poolside movies on a 24-by-14 foot jumbo LED screen, an expanded spa and fitness center exclusively for adults and a new youth activities space designed for children ages 10-14.

Guests booking a Mexican Riviera cruise can combine the enchantment of a Disney Cruise Line vacation with the fun and excitement of Disneyland Resort by booking a two-night pre- or post-stay at one of Disney’s three Anaheim resort hotels.

In addition to the 12 Mexican Riviera cruises, Disney Cruise Line will offer two 15-night repositioning cruises through the Panama Canal. The Disney Magic will depart Port Canaveral and head west on May 10, 2008, with the return cruise to Florida scheduled for Aug. 17, 2008.

They've also released the dates/itineraries for the remainder of 2008, including several "alternate Western" sailings for the Magic with double dips at CC! Now I'm torn - Westbound repo or double-dip Western, Westbound repo or double-dip Western... what to do, what to do... ???
