How is walking on Harbor Blvd. at night after the park closes (8 p.m. and after) ? Is it well lit?

I am a single mom & I have taken my daughter on a few trips to DLR & have stayed at Hojo's & Tropicana on Harbor & I never felt "unsafe".
Thanks, I am not from a big city and just wanted to make sure we would feel safe when walking back from the park.
There are typically some unsavory-looking characters (not Disney characters, either) around the bus stops, but don't bother them and they won't bother you. The City of Anaheim knows where their revenue comes from, so APD keeps a pretty close eye on that area.

We stayed at the Desert Palms our first trip, around the corner from Candy Candy (on Katella - so a bit of a walk down Harbor. We're from a very small town (rural area) and we felt totally comfortable. It's well lit and there's usually lots of others families around you walking back to their hotels too.

We have walked several blocks down Harbor and in the surrounding area. We have never felt unsafe even when we were the only family on the street at one am. We do stay on the main streets where the hotels are. In the daytime I have ventured elsewhere to grocery shop and use the laundromat, never a problem.
We just got back to our rural town in Nevada tonight and what a different world it is from the Anaheim area! Cows for as far as the eye can see!

We have stayed at several hotels on Harbor Blvd. and have always felt very safe and comfortable walking to and from the park at various times in the evening hours. The resort area is very well lite and always full of other visitors!

I live in Fullerton and know that Anaheim is not a safe place...BUT if you are near the resort don't fret, its safe around there. Just don't venture too north of Harbor!!!!
$2.75 is worth the price for a little piece of Heaven on Earth...aka CHURROS
Whenever we drive on Harbor after leaving the parking structure, it looks fine. No suspicious persons could be seen (but then again, they could be wearing black.)
Although I've never felt uncomfortable when I was walking by myself after the park closed (my sister had already driven home, I was flying out the next morning) - still keep your wits about you and walk with purpose/etc!
We've been on Harbor numerous times at all hours of the night, and never felt unsafe (but then I am usually with 3 - 2nd degree blackbelts...) Even when we walked back to the Residence Inn on Clementine and Disney Way, I never felt like there was an issue.

No worries here. Of course, like all the travel advisers say,"Keep your head 'up' (don't look at the sidewalk) and look people on the face. (w/o stareing).
I always feel totally safe around there. I am usually up at 4am and I leave the hotel alone to go get coffee from IHOP to bring back to the room. Never have I felt unsafe.
South of the parks, below Katella, has been known for prostitution.
The convention participants seem to attract the trade.

I have walked back to HoJos from the resort numerous times with just my kiddos. I try to stay near other people, walk with my head up and with a purpose and have always felt comfortable. It is well lit and there is always lots of foot traffic.

Why do I always miss seeing stuff like this? We have seen a few homeless mentally ill but they have never bothered us, not even had one try to panhandle.Originally Posted by Stupid_American

I've walked that area (around the Hilton and Marriot and what is not Doubletree Suites) and never seen prostitutes. I have seen a couple of the homeless, but they usually jst keep to themselves, not even panhandling.Originally Posted by momuvseven

We always stay at HoJo's and the walk back at night has never made me feel uncomfortable, no matter what time (my girlfriends and I usually close down The Lost Bar on our girl's night out). Of course, I'm usually feeling a little "over confident" and probably a touch "unobservant" after leaving the lost bar.
I found Harbor Blvd. to be very safe and friendly. I boarded a bus from that stop right in front of DL (across from iHOP) and took it to downtown LA at night. The people that got on the bus were all friendly and many were coming from DL. I felt safe on Harbor Blvd. and on the bus, but getting off the bus in LA is a different story!
I've never felt unsafe walking on Harbor either and several of my past trips were just myself and another friend (female) of mine. Plus if you are leaving around the time the parks are closing, there will most likely be a lot of other people walking with you!

I remember spotting some drug dealing and other criminal activity from my room during my stays at the Mariott in 2002 and 2003. It was all going on around the (then) shutdown hotel property at the corner of Harbor and Convention Way.Originally Posted by Malcon10t
That being said, I've walked from all the way down at the Hyatt to the park a bunch of time, late at night, without any problems at all.

Careful if you do that in New York City.and look people on the face. (w/o stareing).
There have been a few events in and around the hotels on Harbor Blvd. Like any tourist destination, complacency can get you in trouble.
That said, we have stayed primarily at HJs for going on 20 years now. Walked it a gazillion times with nary a problem. Situational awareness.
The real danger are vehicles with distracted drivers or tourist buses suddenly pulling into the driveways ( like McDonalds ) as you are walking on the sidewalk. . Watch out for them.
Self reliance is inversely proportional to reliance on the government.
like ilovecherros said, drift a little north on Harbor and you could run into trouble. But the immidiate park area is very safe.
