Attack of the Clones in Digital Projection?

This site lists US theaters equipped with digital projection, but does anyone know for certain which ones, if any, will be showing AotC digitally?

If that URL doesn't work, go to http://www.dlp.com/ and follow the links.
The one I should not think of keeps rolling through my mind—and I don't want to let that go.
No lover's ever faithfull, no contract truly signed.
There's nothing certain left to know—and how the cracks begin to show!

I'm sure if the theater has digital projection, and they're showing SW, they'll show in DP..

But of course, you could just call the theater and ask.. I'm sure they can tell you.

Here's the list at Starwars.com. It seems to be all the same theaters. Clicking on a link will give you show times and such.

    That worked!

There are a few theaters that have DLP, but aren't showing Episode 2 in that format. In the L.A. area, AMC Media Center 6 in Burbank, The Bridge Cinema in Los Angeles, and the El Capitan Theater all have DLP but are not scheduled to show the film digitally.

Since the El Capitan is Disney-owned and is directly across the street from the Chinese, it isn't surprising at all that it isn't playing the film. If I were to make a guess, I suspect that the other two theaters probably have contracted with Dreamworks to run "Spirit" digitally starting next weekend.

Actually, according to the list SM first posted, the equipment from Burbank has moved to Santa Monica, and they are listing digital showtimes. It's around. There don't seem to be any in OC, however. The Spectrum is listed as digital ready on the starwars.com website, but when you click on it it says there are no show times. Fandango doesn't list any. I can't get through to a human being to ask via phone, and there's no way I'm stupid enough to attemt to be anywhere near that theather this afternoon with the premier tonight. But all signs are pointing to no for the Spectrum, sadly.

GD - Thanks for the link.

I'm going to try to go see the Digital Projection of it at the Metreon in San Francisco on Saturday. It will be a triple-exciting adventure because 1) it's Star Wars, 2) I've never seen the new Digital Projection format, and 3) I've never been to the Metreon.

If everything goes as planned I'll report back here Saturday night with my review of Digital Projection.

Anybody else in the SF Bay Area want to make it a mini-meet?

For anyone in OC, the OC Register reports that the Irvine Spectrum IS showing Episode II in digital projection!! One of only 60 in the entire nation.

I am hoping it's not already sold out for Saturday, because I would LOVE to see it for the first time in digital. I saw TPM digitally, but only after I had already seen it a few times. It is AMAZING. I can't wait until this becomse the standard. You've got to see it to believe it. Actually, the most exciting part of seeing a movie with digital projection is the previews. They put up that old, familiar "approved for all audiences" green screen, and you have NEVER seen a green that bright. Perfectly clear, no graininess or junk on film. Just one, big, sold green square. Beautiful.

Went to the 12:01 showing here in Phoenix at the only theater showing SW in DP. (Harkins Arrowhead)

Just amazing. That's about all I can say.

I've got tickets for the 5:50pm showing (DLP) on Saturday, 5/18 at the Loews Cineplex Metreon in San Francisco. I'll be taking my son. He's been dying to see this. He even made a calendar and marked the date just so he'd remember.

Anybody else want to join us?

I really enjoyed the digital projection at the Metreon. It was incredible.

Everything I don't like about film projection wasn't there...the reel changing blips (those little dots that show up in the upper right corner just before a reel change...I always see them and it's distracting), the snap, crackel, and pop at every reel change, the dirt and scratches. Just good clean projection that didn't distract me from the movie.

And the worst part about all the reel changing problems with film are still there when I go to movie theaters that use pallets (where they feed all the film onto one continuous spool) to run the film.

Some of the typical problems with DLP projectors are that the blacks aren't black enough (shadows look grey instead of black), but that doesn't seem to be a problem with these really high end projectors. These aren't like the small 13 lb. DLP projectors you can get for home. These are monsterous, expensive beasts. And the picture they produce is incredible! Absolutely stunning! It was well worth the 1 hour trip one way to go see it. I'll have to do it more often.

By the way, for those that don't know...DLP stands for Digital Light Processing.
