Parkside Inn & Best Western Stovall's Inn

I'm sorry to read that many of you are staying miles away from Disneyland in hopes of saving on lodging costs. There are good hotels in walking distance from Disneyland that are reasonable in price.

I was at Disneyland yesterday and looked at the location of all the hotels near the Disney property. Disneyland's property is huge and walking distance to Disneyland basically means a hotel across the street at one of the Disney entrances. The two I recommend are Parkside Inn & Best Western Stovall's Inn. I posted a website on both hotels at http://www.freewebs.com/hotelsneardi...landhotels.JPG

Both Parkside Inn & Best Western Stovall's Inn are cheap and in walking distance to Disneyland. Essentially both are next to the Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel. More important, the walk is nice in that you are not bombarded with a lot of traffic and it is in a real nice area of the Disney property. If you stay at Parkside Inn & Best Western Stovall's Inn, you do not need to rent a car as everything is right there. They are in walking distance from three restaurants: Tiffy's, Coco's, and Dennys.


If you stay at other Disney entrance hotels, the scenery for the walk is not as nice.


If I was coming from out of town and was on a budget, I would stay at one of these two hotels, have breakfast at Tiffy's and walk through Disney's Grand Californian Hotel to enter Disney's California Adventure (DCA) and walk through DCA to Disneyland. When the monorail's working, I would take that from the mall as a way of entering Disneyland directly in Tomorrowland

No. I live near the park and pass by Parkside Inn & Best Western Stovall's Inn all the time. I stopped in both places yesterday to ask about their rooms and picked up some brochures / business cards while I was there. See http://www.freewebs.com/hotelsneardi...landhotels.JPG

Some Mousepad posters are staying near LAX because the hotels are cheaper than staying on the DL property. But LAX is 40 miles away from DL and these hotels are right across the street and cost about the same as the hotels near LAX.

Parkside looks to have a rougher crowd and is not family oriented, but is cheap. Best Western looks like a nicer place. Both have pools as you can see from overhead at http://www.freewebs.com/hotelsneardi...landhotels.JPG

Basically, if you want to experience the place you stay at, stay at DL. If you want to enjoy DL without renting a car and without paying DL logding prices, stay at Parkside Inn or Best Western Stovall's Inn.

Other hotels have shuttles to DL, but you really miss out experiencing DL by taking these shuttles. The landscaped walkway to DL from Parkside Inn or Best Western Stovall's Inn is so nice that you feel wrapped in Walt's arms from the moment you start out.

I've never stayed at either, but I'd rather stay closer at one of the properties I know is highly rated right across the street on Harbor.

Before you recommend someplace, you might consider staying there. I will sleep in my car before staying at the Parkside Inn. The place is gross. There is a reason it is so cheap. Funny thing, everyone eats there once, and once is enough. Yes, we have eaten there. The black lettuce was enough to make us never come back. It was pretty bad.

I have stayed at Stovall's ( Dec/05) and I will not ever stay there again. The carpets were disgusting and the carpet had padding under some of the carpet & in other places it was right on concrete. The bathroom window did not shut properly( luckily it was a small window over shower). Didn't find the doors too secure either, large spaces all around the door. The only thing good I can say is there was a woman working the front desk( I think she was more of a manager type) who was very nice. Our trip had been last minute the week before Christmas so we didn't get a choice. I found it too far after a day in the park for a walk back to motel & waited & waited & waited for the ART to pick up in the shuttle area.

Coco's is a good restaurant but not Tiffy's.

Stovall's was pretty gross when we stayed there in '98. From recent reviews, it doesn't sound like they've made any improvements either.

To recommend a decent, close, yet inexpensive place, I would recommend the Alpine. The rooms are clean, the people are nice, the rates are decent, and its close. If you look, the Hilton can even have rates as cheap as the Parkside on occasion. And Hojos with the Entertainment rate is cheaper! For Christmas, we are staying at the Residence Inn Maingate. I got the 1-bedroom unit for $119 (2 queeens, 1 sofa sleeper, full kitchen). There are decent rates out there, you just have to be willing to look. I use Trip Advisor to scour out advise on where to stay. A couple bad reports won't prevent me from staying someplace, but if every one says "STAY AWAY", I will stay away. The Anabella is nice. Its next to Tiffy's (but the quality doesn't spill over.) There are drawbacks, like an airconditioner that shuts off after 2 hours and you have to restart it (to save the bill from those who leave it on all day while they are at the park). Marriot Suites had good prices last I looked. And I liked the Carousel!! I've stayed at most of the smaller places at one time or another. Sheraton is fantastic and has huge rooms! Almost a suite in itself.
