Monorail - Big Deal or No Big Deal?

I am going to ask everyone out there .... I don't think that the monorail being down is such a big deal. I think sometimes that people don't hear themselves when they call the resort to book reservations and they realize after booking the Disneyland Hotel that the Monorail is down from Aug 21 - Dec 15. I can understand after being in the park all day and night it is just easier to jump on the Monorail. I think we take advantage of that convienance. I can imagine at WDW if their transportation was down (now thats an issue) but come on the Disneyland Resort is very small compared to WDW.

Not that big of a deal, but disappointing if it's closed and you're staying at the DLH for the first time. I prefer walking mostly, but that's one of the really really cool things about staying at the DLH. I didn't change my plans because of it, but it's a bummer.

I won't book at the DLH while the monorail is down. The monorail convenience at the end of a long Disney day is a huge selling point for me. I would only book at the DLH with a killer rate anyway, but won't even look for good rates if monorail is not an option. I prefer the walk to the HoJo and the Entertainment rate there can't be beat.

For me I couldn't care less. Personally I'd rather just start walking rather than wait in line to get on the monorail, deal with the people to ride, then pile off, to continue my walk to the DLH. It's not like we're talking staying at a monorail resort at WDW and it was down then I'd say no we're actually won't be staying there. DL I don't really care too much. It's just more of an attraction I think rather than a form of transportation.

I didn't know that. My 3-year old son's favorite rids are the tram and the monorail so that only leaves the tram. He'll be dissapointed.

Not a big deal for us. It takes the same amount of time to wait for the monorail as it does to walk to the park for us.

No big deal for me, but I don't stay at the resort. I can understand people being a bit dismayed if they think that they are paying a premium for the convenience of being able to hop the monorail to their hotel.

We don't stay in the resort hotels (usually because they are too expensive). We stay at the Candy Cane Inn and they have a free shuttle. If that broke down we would be very unhappy.

I'm a little sad the Monorail will be closed...it's going to be my first time staying at the DLH. But I can live with it....I can't imagine my first steps of the day being thru tomorrowland via the monorail - gotta walk down main street toward the castle

We stay on property and rarely use the Monorail. I like walking through DTD even after a long day and as long as DH is with me it's no biggie. Now 3 kids alone, which I have done, is another story.


And I don't like taking the Monorail in. I love walking through the gates and down Main St.

I'm with you! It's my first trip too, but not my first time taking the monorail to DD. If it were running, I might use it to go back to the room/pool mid-day, but at rope drop and closing, arriving and leaving through Main Street is the perfect end-caps to a day. Something magical happens when you go under the train track.

hey jookyg...you stayin' at the DLH? when are you going to be there? I'm arriving Sept 10 (hopefully I'll catch an earlier flight, but I'm scheduled to arrive LAX at 3:45pm) staying until the 17th. YAY!

It was kinda a big deal for me in a way. We are doing a family get together for hubbys side of the family. My mother in law has had seven heart attacks and six stints. so she cannot walk for too long and we bring a wheelchair for her, but at the end of a long DL day we did not want to push her through Downtown Disney to get to our hotel. Plus if she wanted to get back to her room to rest someone would have had to push her there and comeback to join the rest of the group. so we opted for the GCH.

There ya go. We stayed at the GCH last time for mobility reasons, too.
Sometimes you pay through the nose to save your neck.

Living a short drive from Seattle which has had monorails since 1962 the novalty of riding momorails has long worn off. We will be staying at the DLH and don't mind the walk through downtown Disney to get to the parks.

We use the monorail a lot when we stay at the resort. I have planned my next trip around when the monorail will be back up and running. It is a big deal when you have been in the park all day and night and need a little help getting to and from your hotel.
