"Toy Story" wowed the crowds, but it also demonstrated some of the technology's limitations. The Emeryville animation studio's movie worked in part because Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the other main characters were plastic toys; by nature, their bodies could only move in a limited number of ways and they didn't require the same amount of detail as human characters.
On Friday, the premiere of Pixar's seventh animated film, "Cars," will illustrate how far the industry has come. Computers are faster, the software is cheaper and the tools are more sophisticated than ever.

I can't wait for this movie. I will be going opening weekend with my family and then I will talk my friends into when they all are home for college.

I. Can. Not. Wait.
My family Can. Not. Wait. either.
We are so excited for it we can hardly stand it. I texted my husband today about it!
We will be there Friday for sure!!!
I thought Toy Story was great, and every one afterwards. If the technology is better on this one, well, as my sister would say, it has to be "screamin'!"

My kids each got Cars books at Barnes & Noble this weekend - M's is a junior novelization and Sman's is a picture book at his reading level. They were excited BEFORE they got the books. NOW they won't SHUT UP about the thing and they still haven't seen the movie.
When Sman found out it was Rated G, he cheered!

We bought the soundtrack today - it's excellent! The Rascal Flats song and the James Taylor song are really great. It also has a lot of the movies theme music too - that also sounds very good. I can't wait to see the movie - we're going Friday at 10:10 a.m. - first show.

We are going tomorrow as well, although I am not sure what time. With MrPooh's job, he works until the job is done, so whenever he gets off we are heading to the theater. Piglet and I are off tomorrow, so we are just waiting for him.
We have seen almost all the Pixar movies on opening day. We didn't see Toy Story first day because Piglet was just born, and I think we might not have seen Bugs Life first day either. We hadn't caught the Pixar bug yet. But we have now!!

I'm sure I don't need to say this to all the Disney/Pixar enthusiasts out there, but don't forget to stay through the ending credits. I saw the movie last night and the
during the credits is hysterical!!!!!!

Thanks, bellefan! We normally do, but it is nice to know about it so that we can be sure to stay! I was disappointed that Incredibles didn't have it.
Guess it wasn't the type of film for that.
How was it, BTW? Great?

The thing that bugged me about the Incredibles was how they also didn't have any cross references to other Pixar movies like the pizza truck from toy story. Or were some later discovered that I just never heard about.

It was very good - much better than I expected. I didn't think I would like it as much as I did. It did seem a little long at times but I even pleasantly surprised at the soundtrack with more "songs" than "instrumentals." They have a lot of famous voices in it, and it was fun to try and figure them all out...

I know from my son's picture book that there is at least one cross-reference to the Toy Story movies (TS1 for sure - I don't know if it's in TS2 or any of the others.)

We just got back. There are so many cool references for adults throughout. This movie is fun for all ages.

Great movie!!!
I would rank it #2 behind Nemo - it's tough to rate/rank these Disney/Pixar Movies - They are all on different levels - both technology and story but I loved this movie!.

I liked the movie and plan on seeing it again. The theater turned on the lights and stopped the sound for the last scene of the movie after all the credits.
I would rank this behind all the other Pixar movies but it was still very good.

Stuffed with Fluff
We loved it. Definitely one to be seen on the big screen, if you can.

We loved it! But we are also NASCAR fans in our house, so that was an added level of enjoyment.
My very favorite part was the part that bellefan mentioned. I really enjoyed it, especially the bit with John Ratzenberger. He is one of our favorite parts of Pixar movies, we look forward to trying to find where he is in each movie. He was underused in Incredibles, so we were glad that he had a bigger part this time.
Piglet declared it his favorite, while MrPooh still thinks Incredibles is the best. I wouldn't say it was my favorite, but it ranks right up there!
You know, when Bugs Life came out, we weren't real familiar with Pixar yet, and didn't know if it would be good or not. It was. The next time I doubted Pixar was when Incredibles was coming out, I was afraid they couldn't do a full film with human characters. I was so wrong. I have now decided that it will take a "bomb" from Pixar for me to doubt them.
Two big yellow 3894's thumbs up from the Pooh family! (or rather 3, we all loved it!)

I got to see it today. (For FREE, I might add- thanks to my State Farm Agent who rented out the theater.) Mrs. GusMan and I loved it. It had a good story line, a good "moral" to it and it was entertaining throughout.
Great music too! Bought the soundtrack at Target for $10.
I would rank this up there as one of my favorite Disney/Pixar films. Ties Toy Story for the fun quotient and rivals Nemo for animation.
I will be seeing this with GusDaughter sometime soon as she was sick today. You can bet that I will be pre-ordering this on DVD once it gets announced.
Good fun - go see it.
The search function is like the Force. It may take practice, but the more you use it, the more control you will have over it!

Alex's review is awesome, and right on.
MrPooh and I both said we would like Pixar to release a DVD of their shorts. Some nights we get into a mood to see "Geri's Game," and "The Birds" (two of our favorites) and the rest and it would be great if we could see them all on one DVD instead of having to change them in the player.
Oh, and there is a reference of "The Birds" in Cars. You have to look quick to catch it.
I am determined that when the DVD of Cars comes out, we will watch the freeway and big car scenes to see if we can see the Pizza Planet truck. I would bet it is there.

I saw the birds reference too but it was so fast I wasn't sure if I was going crazy. And I was thinking the same thing about the pizza truck

Warning to those of you who have not yet told your children that Joe Ranft died - there is a tribute to him during the credits, and the stuff you want to stay for is AFTER that.
You know who you are.
You're welcome.

Was Lightning McQueen named after Glenn McQueen from Pixar who also died?

There might have been a bit of a tribute there, but I think the character is primarily named after Steve McQueen.

Is that a race car driver?
And I didn't know where to post this so I will just add it here.

It is probably old news but I has no idea their eyes moved and it looks like they have a couple other features too.

No, Steve McQueen was a well-known actor. He's deceased.
Now that many have seen the movie, can I brag how proud I am that the premiere was a few minutes from my house? What a cool event that was! (I guess it's how all the lucky Californians feel all the time, but it was a very big deal here!)
I'm not even a NASCAR fan, but wow, has this been fun.
