Wilderness Lodge room report
Well as I said the resort was breathtaking from the lobby but once I got off the elevator I was a little let down. The dust on the lodge pole railings and balconies was 1/2" thick - yuck! Our room was considered a woods view but it should have been called the roof view. We were in 5097 and all we saw was green metal roofing. Oh well, the bunk bed was most important for my ds and we got one.
In the room I noticed a lot stains on the carpet, looked like dried spit up or milk and it was crusty and gross and the rest of the carpet looked like it hadn't been vacuumed in weeks - no bare feet in this room! Our bedspread had the same sort of crusty stuff on it but this looked like, well, boogers. I was really disappointed with the condition of the room. Then I went to brush my teeth and nearly puked from the water. It was vile!
On a positive side the bed was devine. I have spinal issues and I slept very well here. One night at our cottage and I can barely walk, mattresses make a huge difference! The pillows were also really nice (trying not to think of what could be stained on them) I also found there to be a lot of room for our luggage and the room was a decent size for 2 adults and 1 child. It might be small for a family any larger.
The grounds were beautiful, not a palm tree in sight, tons of ducks (even swam in the pool with us) rabbits and birds that were very tame. We really loved the setting. We never had to wait more than 10 min for a bus to go somewhere and the boats seemed even quicker.
Overall, we liked the place but they need to work on keeping it cleaner around there.

Wow, I'm pretty shocked to hear of that room condition. I would've asked for another room. Goes to show what can happen in a large hotel.
This was the only place I've stayed onsite, in 2004. The room was in great shape. The first room they gave me was overlooking the lobby, too noisy, so I asked to be moved and they gave me a great quiet woods view room!
Sometimes it seems like hotels try to unload problem rooms on people, on the chance they can get away with it. One time I suffered through a very moldy room in Puerto Rico for one night, before complaining the next morning and of course they had a beautiful room to move me to. The key is, if you're going to complain, do it quickly before you're unpacked and everything.
Only small issue I had with the second WL room was the wooden bed frame kept knocking my knees as I walked around -- chalk that up to "theming" I guess.
Glad you got to enjoy the unique ambiance!

5097 overlooked the lobby as well but it wasn't noisy when we were there, maybe this was quiet guest week or something. I guess I thought they would see the carpet when they cleaned the room and fix it in the morning and change the bedspread - but after 8 days......it's just gross. What surprised me was the supervisor came in the afternoons to check the rooms but she never caught it either. Maybe it's considered normal room conditions???
My grandfather passed away while we were there and it just seemed not to matter in the grand scheme of things. I just wanted to give a complete report of my experience to MP.

Fall Festivities
We stayed here in 2002 and our room was spotless. I would recommend asking for a room switch if that happens. We did last October at the Beach Club Villas and they switched us without a moments hesitation.
