We're planning to be in Disneyland for 5 days starting on the 17th as part of a road trip this summer and I was wondering what crowds are expected to be like that week. Also, if we would like to stay at the Grand Californian, when should we make our reservations..Thanks so much!

Well, I wouldn't expect capcity crowds but very close on the 17th. I would also make reservations for the hotel now because waiting is never a good idea when it comes to booking hotels.
Given that it's a Monday for the park's 51st birthday? Maybe a bit more crowded than a normal Monday in summer, but nowhere close to capacity.
I guess I have a glitch in my matrix.

Since it is a summer peak weekday in mid July, I think it will be close to capacity, but not be closed to re-entry.
I think this summer you might find the sales of new one day tickets being halted many times this summer based on late December.
