    Big Trouble

Anyone here somewhat excited that this movie will finally premier. I hope that it doesn't sway too far from the original story by one of my favorite authors, Dave Barry. Also I hope that the story is not changed to much since there are overly sensitve people will say it was a joke about terrorist and 9/11 even though the book was published in 99' and the movie was originally going to open on 9/21. Anyway I hope it does well... or at least doesn't bomb.

    A Dave Barry movie?!

Should be hilarious. How will be the lead?

    That worked!

Tim Allen is the lead in "Big Trouble". From what I've heard, the film plays more of an ensemble film, though with a cast that also includes Rene Russo, Tom Sizemore, Denis Farina, Janeane Garofolo, Omar Epps, Stanley Tucci, Patrick Warburton, and others.

As a note, the film is a caper comedy based on a novel that was written by Barry. It isn't based around his columns like the "Dave's World" TV series was.

Despite the strong cast, source material, and director (Barry Sonnenfeld, who directed "Get Shorty" and "Men in Black"), the buzz on the film isn't that positive. It was originally intended for release in late September, but was delayed because one of the plot elements involves a bomb on an airliner. Since it was delayed only a couple weeks before release, a few reviews had already popped up and they generally weren't all that positive.

    Thanks for that information!

I am sort of remembering commercials for this.

Well, I will see what people review here. Maybe
    attitudes have changed?

I'm looking forward to it, even if the critics didn't like it. A lot of the movies that I love, the critics hate (i.e. Rat Race). Here's hoping.

Just judging from what the promos have and some of the movie stills it looks like they gave Patrick Warburton's (sp) character more stuff that would have gone to Miss. Gerafalo's character in the novel. It will be interesting to see how much of the stuff (mainly the climax) that was in the novel will be in the movie. Mainly becuase of the sheer cost of some of the stuff. The main characters are going to be (Going of the book) Tim Allen as Eliot Arnold, Renee Ruso (I think that is her) as Mrs. Herk, Jason Lee as Puggy... then the rest are going to be supporting. If I had to make a comparison I would say it's a cross between Time Code and Rat Race where they all basically interwine for the climax and in various parts of the film.

I saw another promo for it on TV it looks like they may make Eliot Arnold (Tim Allen) the big hero in the ending, or they may still keep Monica (Gerafalo) in the climax... it kind of takes the originality out of the story a little.

Well, ya know, they do take such liberties with the movies.

Well it wasn't like this book was asking the impossible... I just hope that Monica (Gerafalo) gets to do something for the ending instead of what Warburton Should be doing.

I can't remember others, but, I know that once someone buys the rights to something, their 'take' on it can be totally different from what the original writer had in mind.

And, I wonder if someone just saw this book with Tim Allen in mind. His old character on Home Improvement was a bit like Dave Barry, don't you think? His way of thinking?

Anywho, I do love Rene Russos hair! Did not recognize her.

Jason Lee, aka Brodie, and the "Tracer!" Plays Puggy.

Actually Dave Barry apparently is working/worked with Sonnifeld and he doesn't have too much of a problem with it. I do love what Dave has to say about how the book came to be. Judging by the cast they did keep to the physical apearances that were given so that is a plus, heck it looks like they even positioned the people in the car chase scene the way the book had it.

If you get time go to the websiteBig Trouble
It has some video interviews with Dave Barry, and a link to a naked photo of him. I think I am blind now.

I saw it today and it actually was very nicely done. It didn't stray too far off course from the book (it did change some key scenes but I thought some were even better than the book). I do wish they kept the whole ending the book had. Oh and Elizabeth Dole was replaced by Martha Stewart for anyone who knows what I am talking about.
