Not sure if this thread belongs in this section, but can anyone share their thoughts on the Disney's Visa Card? How are the rewards? Anyone recommend it and does it pay off when you are vacationing?
Any comments would be greatly appreciated!

I haven't noticed any discounts yet for WDW (just shipboard credits for cruises and DL) but have earned quite a few Disney Dollars which I understand can be used to pay for food on our trip. I do think they should give more than 1% when you buy things at Disney store or in the parks like many visa reward cards do. If it pays for a couple character meals I will be happy!Originally Posted by tappenfeat
I did get a discount on a backstage tour (specifically, Yuletide Fantasy) - I think it was 20%
Assuming that we're just talking about benefits at WDW (there are many more benefits at DLR), I can think of three off the top of my head.
1. 20% off guided tours
2. 10% off at World of Disney
3. Free character photo (Innoventions West, limited hours)
I could be missing some, but that's what I can think of off the top of my head.
In addition to the reward dollars, the 6 month interest free financing on WDW/ DLR/DCL packages really helps out when paying for trips. (Must be booked through Disney) We also get an on-board credit for our DCL trips as well.
As with any "rewards" type card, the benefit comes only if you pay off the card every month. In addition, if you are the kind of person who uses the card for everything, then the rewards do stack up nicely.
It paid for nearly all our meals not covered by the dining plan on our last trip.

We used it to pay for meals and souveniers, got cheap tickets for disney on ice and have gotten some great vacation deals over the past few years by using it.
We use our card for everything. We finished our basement and got a new fence! We saved all our reward dollars for a year and were about to use them to pay for about 3/4 of our 4 day park passes (2 adults and one child).
We have had the card since April and have earned 150 dollars and, according to the description, it can be used at anything Disney. But as mentioned by pixiepower, it is really just a 1% return. And you absolutely have to pay off the balance in full each month or the points are meaningless. Since there are other cards out there that have larger rewards (many offer 2% cash back) it is the "other" offers that would push this over the edge but as yet the only additional special offers are cruise related.
I was kind of hoping that I'd see something come down the line for this offseason, particularly considering the weather down there but I haven't seen anything. It seems like someone might be asleep behind the wheel in the offers department.
Overall though, we like the card anyway just because it shows a balance of our rewards towards Disney trips and makes us dream of the fun we'll have when we go back. And it's pretty cool to carry the card around. I figure that if we earn around 400 points per year, that translates to a few more days at the hotels.
If you use your Disney points toward a trip payment, any travel agent can use the points as payment toward your package, as long as that agent books your trip with Disney (as opposed to, say, Southwest Vacations or Delta Vacations or any other non-Disney vendor).
The world is a book. Those who do not travel read only one page.
I signed up for a Disney Visa early in 2004 for the main purpose of getting a discount on the family trip we were planning for June 2004. We got a great discount that allowed us to upgrade from the All Star resorts (we paid approx $180/night for a cabin at Fort Wilderness)!
I haven't seen any discounts like this offered since then, but the points I have accumulated have been used to buy my son some extra toys, DVD's at the Disney store and the 0% financing on my 2004 trip sure were nice, too!
I also just received in the mail a new offer from them .... a free companion airfare to either WDW or DL. I called Chase to get the details and they gave me the 800 number for the company making the reservations for this promo. We are a family of three (me, hubby and son). So, this promo would give me 2 seats. We would have to try to book a third seat on the same flight through the airline directly - with no guarantee that there would be something available at all, let alone a seat next to the other two. So, for families, this offer may not work - which makes no sense since it is strictly for a trip to Disney!!
Has anyone else received this promo??
While I have not seen the offer you mention, a lot of time "companion" tickets are usually based on a full-fare ticket purchase. In other words, you may be better off doing some research and seeing if that offer really saves you money.
For example, I had a similar offer sent to me, but the ticket to MCO would have cost me over $300! For two tickets on another airline it only cost me $230 and the flight was non stop. So make sure you do your homework beforehand.

Excuse my ignorance about the card. I have been considering getting the Disney card too. So, if I book a disney vacation or room through WDTC or Central Reservations, may I use my card "points" or "dollars" for that package? Also, does anybody know of a website that I can check out for further information?

I am not sure about applying points to the actual trip itself. However, I think you can use it for paying for incidentals at the resort when you check out. We just use ours like cash at the parks & resorts. I mean, 1% is not all that much but if you let it build up over time, it can make a big difference. I know of people who have used their points for an AP or other park tickets. For me, I think the interest-free payments is probably the best perk.Originally Posted by daisyd0

Yep, they promote using the points for park tickets on the site. No matter what, you'll be able to find one part of your Disney vacation that will use up the points.
One thing I should mention is the process you go through to redeem points. First, each month you get a calculated total of the dollars you charged to the card towards points. But points aren't ready to be used like this... you have to then transfer the points into what is essentially a gift card. Points expire after 10 years but once they are converted into the usuable form they are just like cash on a gift card and have their own rules for expiration. I kind of like the process because then I don't have to worry about the points expiring on me like some rewards cards do.
The only really annoying thing about the system is that they really bury your rewards balance on the site. Poor site coding I believe.
Thanks everyone for your help! This does help explain how this works!!!

I booked my cruise vacation through AAA and I still got the 6 months interest free.Originally Posted by GusMan

Is there a limit to how much you can earn. I got my Disney Visa a couple of months ago and have been using it for everything.

The complimentary tickets for Chicken Little are now online for Disney Visa holders. Get them before they're gone!

When you log into the Disney Visa site, in your account summary there is a scroll down that says "Special Offers" for card, then it will lead you to a screen with several Disney Visa offers. There is a section for Entertainment (I think that's the one- it may be Other Special Offers). Once you click that, it will read free movie tickets. Click that and it will take you to a sepecial site for the movie tickets. The cities that are available are listed on the right of the page in a column. When a city is out of tickets, it will read "sold out". As of yesterday, no city was sold out, so there's still a good chance that you will be able to get some if you jump on it now. They make you click forever to get these tickets, but it'll be worth it. I've been waiting for a while to see Chicken Little, and for free?
Enjoy!
