Darn it! Airfare from Philadelphia to Orlando was running over 220+ lately and recently AirTran had a sale that I purchased for 136 total each person. I could have gotten the same airfare via Southwest for only 116 total each person which is a savings of 40 bucks plus I like the way Southwest does their seating.

Oh well.....

Sorry to hijack - but how does AirTran do their seating if you like Southwest better? For a lot of people I know, the one thing they really DON'T like about Soutwest is the A-B-C seating thing.

And dang - <$100! I'm going to have a REALLY hard time if they have this good of a sale next year when my AP has been activated!

You can check-in online with Southwest as early as 12:01 AM the day of your flight, guaranteeing you an "A"-pass and consequently the better choice of seats on boarding.

And dang - <$100! I'm going to have a REALLY hard time if they have this good of a sale next year when my AP has been activated!

Our annual pass runs out Sunday the 21st. I was dying to put one last trip on it but that real life thing again! And Southwest just keeps giving us $ 49 fares. It's killing me! Somebody please take advantage of these fgares so I can live vicariously!

After reading this post, I checked our flights and the flight there is now $49, but the flight back is not available for less than $139. So, I changed our flight to the $49 rate and saved $120 for the four of us. Once again, THANKS MOUSEPLANET for the best info. (Or as my husband said, my being nosy saved us some money.)

How can you change the flight once you have booked it? I didn't think you could do that.

You can change Southwest flights by just giving them a call. They'll use the money you paid as credit towards the new fare; if you don't spend it all or cancel your flight altogether, they keep the credit on file for the next time you fly.

Just an FYI Sidebar for any of you Southwest flyers that take advantage of their Rapid Rewards frequent flyer program, that's a case of give an inch - take away a mile:

Your New Given Inch: Beginning February 10, 2006 you'll have a 2 year window to accumulate a free ticket, instead of the current 1 year window.

Your Taken Away Mile: Beginning February 10, 2006 Rapid Reward free tickets will no longer be "fly anytime" tickets where you could nab a seat on any Southwest flight (even at short notice) as long as there was a seat available to sell (with the exception of a very few blackout dates). Beginning Feb 10, Southwest will institute individual flight capacity control restrictions for free tickets on all their flights similar to what the big legacy airlines have done for years. So now even though a flight may have plenty of seats to sell, you may not be able to get your free ticket on it.

The unrestricted fly-anytime non-capacity controlled free tickets on Southwest was a huge advantage to Rapid Rewards vs the big guys. But now that advantage is soon to be gone.

Thanks, Opus1Guy. You are right - give an inch, take away a mile! I bet this also means you won't be able to change very easily at the last minute. Hmmmm, my guess is MCO is going to sell out of 'free' seats quite rapidly - That's a real bummer for me, since that's about the only place I WANT to go on Southwest that I don't have to make two transfers to get to!
