Who is in favor (or not) or resort hopping?

here is the deal - during our next trip we will be at WDW for a total of 9 nights. For 6 of those nights we will be DVC guests at the OKW....which leaves us with the first 3 nights to make room arrangements for. We have never stayed at more than one resort per trip before.

Would you guys recommend that we book the first three nights at OKW and stay there the entire time (in other words, not changing rooms or resorts)

    OR

should we try out a different resort? We had thought to go to the POR for the first 3 nights, or if we could afford it - splurge on the BC. But how much of a pain is it to check out and worry about all that and check in somewhere else? Pack and Re-Pack?

    thanks everyone, for your opinions/ideas

My wife and I leave tomorrow and we are resort hopping for the first time but, we've changed hotels during a few vacations since we've gotten married.

Here is my recommendation, pick the nicest resort for your stay to stay at last. We once stayed at a 5 star resort for one night and then had to downgrade to a Holiday Inn Express. We were very disappointed in our second hotel. We've also Upgradded and had something to look forward to. So, since your staying at the OKW, you might want that to be the last part of the trip, especially if the resort you will move to isn't as nice.

One thing they will do is transfer your luggage for you. All you have to do is turn it in to Bell Services when you are checking out and let them know you are going to OKW. When you check in, your luggage should already be in your room.

But I live less than 20 miles from Walt Disney World! And work there part-time.

We did in Feb. from the Poly to WL and it wasn't bad at all...they transferred our luggage for us and we just spent the day shopping and going to the pool and waited to hear when our luggage arrived and when our room was ready.

In May we stayed a couple of days at the WL, then transferred to the AKL. Since we had our car, we just took our own stuff with us. It gives you a good opportunity to see what other resorts are like. We enjoyed our Savannah view room at the AKL, but it would have been out of our budget to spend the entire vacation there. We too have rented points for next trip in Dec. at OKW. I'm looking in to getting a room at one of the value resorts since we will be arriving pretty late our first night & then going to OKW to check in the next morning. On our last trip, we checked in early in the morning just to "pre-check" in before we went to the parks, and our rooms were ready both times. Maybe you'll have the same luck!

    Have Fun!!!

As you can see by my signature, my family likes to resort hop. We didn't do it last time and we felt 8 nights at POP got boring. This time because of the Free Dining we aren't hopping either. We staying at POFQ. If it wasn't for the free dining we probably would have hopped.

Last Sept. we hopped 4 different times but that was more a matter of $$ than anything else. Since we got in late first night we stayed at POP, then moved to AKL. Since 3 out of 5 members of our group left for a few days for a side trip, my DD (5) and myself then moved to ASMo. (This was my first time solo with my DD and we had a great time!) When everyone returned, we all went to POFQ. That was a little hectic but since we don't spend everyday of our trip in the parks, we didn't feel like we lost anytime.

We too have lucked out when checking in early our rooms have been ready. This may not happen as often during the busier times.

We don't enjoy it but that is because we have kids and it interferes with nap times. SO if you don't have kids go for it. However, keep in mind you have to be there to have the bellhops come and get your luggage. It took 2 hours for the bellhop to get to our room at the contemporary which meant we could not leave for those two hours. A huge waste of time for us.

    Currently having WDW withdrawals.

whew! Welp, our kids are beyond the napping stage, but no one in our family is beyond the "let's go and just hang out at the resort pool this afternoon for a change" phase! And I think waiting 2 hours for the bellhop would be no fun ..

We didn't wait for 2 hours...they came and picked up our luggage ASAP and we transferred right over on the ferry...and it was quite hot for Feb. so we did swim waiting for our room which was only an hour...enjoy the resort you are staying at because you pay enough to stay there...
