    Fireworks or Fantasmic?

We're going the first Sat in Oct & the calendar is only up until that date. So as far as I know it could be the only night DL is open late & will have both shows. If I only have the one night which would ya'll recommend we see if we can only get to one? I'm leaning towards the fireworks (partially because I've been ill & we totally missed any 4th of July fireworks this year too). Any ideas? Thanks!! ~julie

I would say the fireworks. They just looks so impressive.

The best seat for the fireworks is in the central plaza hub. Not near the Rivers of America. If you were to try to see Fantasmic, you would be sacraficing a good view of the fireworks. So I highly recommend seeing the fireworks if you were only able to be there for one night. But if you're there for at least two nights, Fantasmic runs on nights when the park is open from 10 pm and later.

There is one other way to be able to do both, but its taking a chance. A really BIG chance. See Fantasmic from the bridge above the entrance to POTC. Then as soon as the show is over (the fireworks will start almost immediately afterwards, dash down the bridge through Adventureland, and get to the plaza hub and you just might make it there before the fireworks start, or at least before all the good stuff happens. Theres a few pyros at first, then there is a narration by Julie Andrews that lasts for like a minute or two. But the big chance here is, that this area gets heavily crowded to see the fireworks. And by the time you get here, there will be standing room only, and highly unlikely that you will be able to find an unobstructed view. This is an alternative that can work, but wouldn't always recommend.

Fireworks...then head over for the 2nd showing of Fantamic!... It's at 10:30 on nights when it plays twice.

Fireworks first. If you can make it to Fantasmic after, great, if not, see it another trip.

    Planning 3 trips at once...

I would lean toward fireworks. I love both shows, but for me, I've seen Fantasmic multiple times. The reason I suggest fireworks is that this probably will go away after the 50th celebration is over, but Fantasmic will still be around. At least that would be my guess.

Wouldn't really recommend this. Because once the fireworks are done, everyone that was in this area for the first Fantasmic will be exiting this area. And it is always a madhouse when Fantasmic is exiting.

The Firewrks are awesome and you probably get the best view of them at the hub or o Main Street. But you can also, watch Fantasmic then stay put to watch the fireworks from that location as well. They even play the music over there.

Don't they even do some of the effects on TSI during the fireworks too? I have heard this but still haven't seen it confirmed.

I really don't think so. And as its been stated by just about everyone, the best spot is by the hub. You don't want to miss out on the good fireworks by being by the Rivers of America.

Yes. There are a few things they do from TSI and the show is pretty cool from the Fantasmic location. But you'll still miss seeing some things that you can only se from the hub or Main Street and that's all I'm gonna say!

We watched the fireworks from near Big Thunder Mountain, AFTER watching Fantasmic one night. The fireworks ARE best from the hub, but, it's possible to see them both in a night. I'd opt for the fireworks myself, if I were only able to see one though, so, it's just up to you! Fantasmic may be there a lot longer than this particular fireworks show (since it's for the 50th).

I went that time last year and there was no fantasmic the second week of December. Not sure if it will be the same this year though.

Thanks for all the replies, I'm thinking Fireworks at the hub for sure. My 4yo will love it.
I'm so glad I found this site!

I saw the fireworks twice this week, once after Fantasmic (first) and the second time right in front of the Castle. After I saw the show from the Rivers of America, I was impressed and I enjoyed them, but I wanted to see what I was missing (I knew from the info on this site that I was missing a lot). I can tell you that going to see them again in front of the castle was so awesome! This show does not compare to anything I have seen before and the hub is the place to see them.

Again, one can try to see the second Fantasmic, but just remember: the first showing will be EXITING this area AFTER the fireworks are over. By the time you get in this area, you may not be able to find a good spot. If you do, I still recommend the bridge over the entrance to Pirates.

We went to Disneyland yesterday and watched Fantasmic on the steps near the Haunted Mansion. They cordoned off the area for people to sit. Then after that finished, the fireworks show started (about 2 minutes later). We had no idea that the best place to see the fireworks were on Main Street (although even if we did, there was no way we could have made it there, and saw Fantasmic). The fireworks were still really nice from our vantage point (by the Rivers of America). Although they didn't have a firework that burst into the shape of Mickey's head (which I think I've seen pictures of?), which I was a little disappointed at. But it still very enjoyable.

The only issue I had was with the crowds after the shows. CMs directing everyone towards Main Street. We were literally shuffling along because we couldn't "walk" normally. Luckily no one got trampled. It seemed to take forever getting out of the park, but I don't think it was actually that long. I had stopped taking photos because they just weren't coming out right, but the last photo of fireworks I took was at 9:42pm and we were on the tram by 10:10pm. We almost decided to just ride POTC again (there was no line) and avoid the crowds...

I saw both shows last night. the fireworks are amazing...as for fantasmic ...well, I have no idea what all the hype is about for that show. water sprays up to make a screen and animation shorts play on it, chracters come out...the pirate ship was pretty cool, but we left before it was even over ...it was just blah...

oph and the way i saw both. I was in the street just outside of adventureland for the fireworks. iw as able to see the castle nad the matterhorn fine. After the fireowrks are over they herd you through frontierland. We were headed to use our splash fastpasses, but as we got around near the HM there was hardly anyone there watching the show. So, we stopped to watch it....we found it dull and left right after the dragon went down and the steam boat was coming out. I think we saw most of it though...
