I saw the Polar Express tonight. I liked it and think it worth seeing for anyone capable of watching a movie through a child's eyes. It was a pretty fun ride! I look forward to other's opinion of the movie.

Here's another thread discussing the movie.

is it a 3yr-old kind of movie? or would it be over their heads?
2nd trip, Feb 2009 Old Key West 7 nights.
First trip, April 2007 Port Orleans Riverside 6 nights.
Been to DL so many times I can't even count.
My three year old enjoyed it; however, she sat on my lap the whole time and buried her head in my chest a few times...Originally Posted by GeminiAngel

I want to see this movie..I have heard good reviews about it
My three year old loved it but did hide her face/plug her ears a couple of times during the louder train scenes. She was entranced during the North Pole and Santa Claus scenes.Originally Posted by GeminiAngel

My 4 year old DD LOVED this movie (she'll actually be four this Christmas Eve)! She got the gist of the story, but the book The Polar Express is a family favorite and we've been reading it to her ever since she was a baby. If you haven't yet, you might want to check out the book first. That way they'll get the most out of the movie when they watch it.Originally Posted by GeminiAngel

A split vote from my family. My wife loved the way that they captured the art style from the book. My youngest, 11, called it the best movie of the year! (We see LOTS of movies!) My 18 year old son, 15 year old daughter and I thought it was ok. We were disappointed at the North Pole part of the story, and felt it was kind of a let down. So call it an A, A+, and 3 B- opinions. It's certainly worth seeing in the theaters vs. DVD though. And I bet it would be really cool in IMAX.
My best friend took his family to see it, and they loved it. At first, I thought I'd be unable to see it myself until such time as I could borrow the DVD he'd almost certainly get of it.
For me, the photo-realistic animation manages to avoid falling into what the roboticists call "uncanny canyon" (whereas the crudely rotoscoped extras in Bakshi's version of LotR managed to hit the very bottom of that canyon), and manages to capture the look and feel of the book illustrations.
Except for the small matter of the pure fantasy scene navigating a train on a sheet of ice, and the equally small matter that real passenger cars, unless they hava open platforms at the ends, have "diaphragms" enclosing the end doors, making it unnecessary for passengers to "jump the knuckles," all the railroad technical details were accurate (from the locomotive controls, to the "cut lever" the Hero Boy accidentally trips, to the brakewheel he has to crank down to stop the runaway observation car).
The most amazing thing about the movie, though, is how they were able to take a book one can read in five minutes, and turn it into a 99-minute movie, and neither ruin it nor make it seem stretched.
i saw it but could kick myself for not seeing the IMAX version which is less than 10 miles away. Its good, but if you have a chance, go see the IMAX version.

I can definitely recommend the IMAX version, you could feel the motion so much that I found myself removing the 3D glasses to give my stomach a break. My 6 year old loved it, but he jumped out of his seat a couple of times when the train seemed to hop off the screen towards him. It's too bad that you won't be able to get the same sensation when the DVD comes out, I really doubt they would do it in 3D. I never thought I would like this movie since the commercials seemed "creepy" to me with the type of animation. But we really did love it, I am so glad we had the opportunity to see it at the IMAX.
