And they painted the special spire on the left that was kept unpainted for decades. The urban myth was that the spire was left unpainted because Walt felt Disneyland should never be complete.

The painting crew painted the spire, and I guess Disneyland was officially completed on October 25th, 2004.

Well... if Kim Irvine is correct, it was painted in the years before 1990 or so. Only after she left one spire unpainted did the urban legend commence.

That means Guest Communications can no longer use the old "Walt Disney said Disneyland would never be complete, and that's why we're tearing out your favorite thing..." excuse again!

So what are they going to be doing in November? I thought they were going to take off all the tops around the 22nd and have a special little event or something.

VERY cool! We try to get a pic in front of the castle every time we go, and maybe we still can when we are there in a couple weeks...13 days to be exact! WOO HOO!!!

Thanks for giving me new hope, Disneyfreak!

I was formerly somewhat bitter about the fact that my annual trip was scheduled to be the 14th to the 18th of November, while the tarps weren't coming down until the 23rd. Of course, I somewhat assumed they would be keeping all of them up until them, and it's wonderful to see that I was wrong in assuming that!
    Ooh, now I can't wait!

[Mr. Burns]Excellent![/Mr. Burns] I'll be there tomorrow (and Thursday, and Friday) to see it for myself!

Okay, I have a request: does anyone have a link of a picture of the unpainted spire? I've never really paid attention this story and now that the castle's been repainted, I'm curious to see what it looked like. Darkbeer? And would I notice it if it wasn't pointed out to me in detail?

    Next stop: Tokyo Disneyland!

Hmmm .... urban legend or not (and I'm not doubting you) things are making sense now ...

From our "Walk in Walt's Footsteps" tour, I rem our guide telling us (pointing to the spire) "Disneyland will never be complete, as long as there is imagination."

Now, with your timeline .... wasn't that about the same time Eisner was hired?

    Hmmmm .... coincidence?

We took the "Walk in Walt's Footsteps" Tour on Sunday, and our guide very purposefully had us stop and look at the painted spire and told us the urban myth about it being left unpainted on purpose, but that people usually neglect to mention that the unpainted spire wasn't done in Walt's time. He said it made for a good story, but it wasn't true.
Now different is nice, but it sure isn't pretty, pretty is what it's about
I never met anyone who was different who couldn't figure that out
But beautiful, I'd never live to see
But it was clear, if not to her, well, then to me.
    blah blah blah blah

Great job - - I'm in shock. It's gorgeous. I hope the bunting and tiaras don't ruin it.

Here. Just run this video in reverse and use your imagination...and it's just like taking the tops off of Disneyland's castle!
