What movies have you seen this summer?

My parents always force us to sit down and watch movies we've never seen before (which I'm actually grateful for).

Movies I'd never seen before:

Fate is the Hunter
Godfather Part I
The Great Escape
Empire of the Sun
Bridge Over the River Kwai

Movies I have seen before:

Pride and Prejudice
The Scarlet Pimpernel
Mansfield Park
Pillow Talk
Sense and Sensibility

And then King Arthur and Spiderman 2.

I've seen Spiderman 2. Enjoyed it a lot. Great effects and excellent story.

I have on my list to see Anchorman, Bourne Supremacy and The Village.

We've been to see: Harry Potter 3 (enjoyed it more than I thought I would), Shrek 2 (really disappointing, imho) and Spiderman 2 (really good). Looking forward to seeing Farenheit 9/11 soon too.

I would more often...but geez...I'd have to drive a whole 2 miles to the local Blockbuster... ...or...another 5 miles in the other direction to the theatres.

At the Cinema:
Shrek 2 - (Grrrr... that whole Ariel/sharks thing at the start turned me off!)
Stepford Wives - (Never saw the original, got a kick out of this campy show)
Anchorman - (okay, Elf was better)
King Arthur - (No, no, no, no, no... too many liberties with the legend for me)
I, Robot - (Not bad, I can confidently say I enjoyed it)
Spiderman 2 - (Strangely enough, the best movie yet this summer for me)
Bourne Supremacy - (too much of the Blair-witch type jerky camera)

As far as suggestions for rentals, if you haven't seen it, go back a few years for "Drop Dead Gorgeous." It is my fave all-time comedy. (Warning, if you don't like mock-u-mentaries, skip it.)

Just went and saw "I Robot" today...it was pretty good as far as sci fi movies go. Also saw Bourne Supremacy a couple of days ago...good story and great soundtrack. Whatever you do, don't go see The Cinderella Story...it's in the same category as Hulk as far as I'm concerned!

Mr. 3894 and I caught up on some movies while the girls were at camp. We rented:

"Fargo" (Loved it)
"Love, Actually" (Liked it)
"Chocolat" (Sorta liked it)

And, miracle of miracles, we actually saw a movie in a theatre:

We've been so busy this summer that we haven't seen our usual quota of summer movies. So far only I, Robot and Spidey 2. Oh, and Shrek 2. I'm hoping to see Bourne and Anchorman within the next couple of weeks.

The girls and I are looking forward to the Princess Diaries 2 in early August.

*Shrek 2.
(Don't really remember the original, but I liked this one a lot.)
*Harry Potter 3.
(Liked it, but I thought they left out parts of the story that made it especially "magical")
*Spiderman 2.
(Only saw parts of the original, but I thought this one was good. Especially when they were on the train, that was actually the loop in Chicago, and they passed by my school! I was like, hey!)
*Fahrenheit 9/11.
(Love MM. Liked Bowling for Columbine better.)
*Saved!
(Soooooo good. Case closed.)
*Napolean Dynamite.
(BEST MOVIE EVER. Definetily a younger, hipper, indie rock type movie. It has a lot of "hipster" cliches, but it's hilarious. Saw it 2 times. I want to see it even more time now that I found out that Napolean/his brother/writers&directors are all Mormon kids my age from BYU)

Want to see:

*Bourne Supremacy.
I saw the first one, and I suprisingly liked it.
*Princess Diaries 2.
I scoffed at the original, but my friend made me watch it, and now I love it!

Heard it wasn't good, but I like Jim Jarmusch, for the most part.

Almost same name, but this time directed by John Turturro, who I think is a genius, and plus, it's got Mandy Moore in it!!

My list this summer is a lot shorter than usual, now that we are parents. We still have managed to get sitters and make it out for a few, though...

Shrek 2: I found this to be hugely entertaining and generally funnier than the original.

The Terminal: This one was highly absorbing, exceptionally well-acted, and overall quite moving. It is a real gem of a movie that really should have done better than it did.

Spider-man 2: This seems to be the year of sequels that improve on their predecessor (and I liked the first one a lot). I was very surprised by the depth of characterization and the overall intelligence of this film.


I also managed to see "Lost in Translation" on DVD. It was definitely well-acted (Murray's nomination was well-deserved), but the film overall didn't really do much for me. Admittedly, I suspect I would have liked it better had I been able to watch it with fewer interruptions.

Disney seems to have lost the art of the true musical (The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, etc.) and are making quasi-musicals where there is mainly background music or songs being performed by a non-character voice (think Phil Collins in Tarzan.)

I am a die-hard musical lover, and think it's a shame that something that was so huge a part of Disney seems to be phasing out. It's great to hear about "Once Upon a Mattress" but even that is just made-for-tv and not an actual theatrical release. I simply think Disney is losing something special by avoiding the classic musical model, both animated and live-action.

Just rented Hellboy this past week. It was good, and Ron Perlman has not lost anything since his "Beast" days!

Shrek 2 - Real good.
Garfield - Cute
Master and Commanger - Turned it off - did not pass my "15 minute rule."
S.W.A.T. - Not worth it.

2Fast 2Furious - Pretty much stunk.
Oceans 11 - Real good

I agree with you 100%! Disney movies aren't as fun anymore. IMHO! Gosh, I just looooved the score of Hunchback of Notre Dame. When I think of it compared to what the studio has put out lately, there is NO comparison.

Good. That happens to be the version she lent me. I loved RR in The Trouble With Angels, by the way.
