Which magazines do you buy regularly/subscribe to?

We did this a few months back, but since I've just rearranged my subscriptions, I thought it would be fun to do it again

I subscribe to:

Cuisine (NZ foodie/wine magazine)
Allure (got a really cheap subscription offer recently and thought "why not"?)

I buy regularly:

Self
In Style (US version - there's an Australian one, but it's not as good, imho)
NW (Australian magazine similar to People or Us Weekly)
Listener NZ current events/politics

Buy sometimes:

Us Weekly
Glamour
Lucky

And I always borrow my mother's copy of the Oprah magazine.

I have a subscription to Seventeen, but I often read those other teenage girl magazines at the library. I love them!! I also always flip through The New Yorker and The Week because my parents subscribe to them.

I am actually unsubscribed at the moment. I just get catalogs.

I had People for about 4 weeks but hated it so I didn't pay my bill. :evilsmilie:
What I will subscribe to soon is Sunset, Bon Appetite and possible Vanity Fair. VF is a BIG maybe. It's really hit or miss for me.

I also miss having a home magazine, but am not sure I like any of the available ones out there to subscribe. Big conundrum.

Cowboys & Indians - hush up, I know it's as fake as can be and just advertising for really expensive ranch properties and art and stuff. I don't care. I love this magazine.

New Yorker - read most every word most every week.

Our house also gets: National Geographic and The Nation. Blech to both of 'em.

No fashion magazines. I swore off them several years ago. Enough.

Real Simple (although "read" is pushing it, it's a lot of photos and very short articles, I do get a lot of good ideas from it though)

National Geographic (my family always had this in the house so I can't bring myself to stop getting it)
Zyzzyva (they once published poems by someone I know, I'll catch up on it someday, and besides I got a cool t-shirt from them)
Granta (I've read half of one issue, I'll get to the others someday)

I have to stay away from the magazine racks in the supermarket. I can be standing in line and suddenly decide a magazine I've never looked at will change my life. I'm especially susceptible in January when I'm still thinking about New Year's resolutions. That's how I ended up with a subscription to Martha Stewart Living even though I don't cook, don't have a yard, and think Martha Stewart is out of her mind. (But I got a tote bag!)

I used to subscribe to Entertainment Weekly, but now I just buy it, along with: Budget Travel, Budget Living, Los Angeles Magazine, and the occasional People. I will pick up issues of other magazines when their covers interest me.

I occasionally pick up something else if it has a story in it that interests me or if I'm traveling and need something to entertain me for a few minutes. i also sort the mail that comes into my school and will sometimes flip through the mags that come for the library if a headline catches my eye.

I subscribe to Big 'uns, Soldier Of Fortune, Easyriders and Highlights. The first three are pure pleasure and the last one is for the always challenging "Find the 14 objects hidden in this picture" puzzle. I need to keep my mind sharp.

I only subscribe to Entertainment Weekly and Disney. They're free.

Real Simple ~My daughter got the subscription for free when working at Illuminations. After she went back to school...I continued to get it, and continued the subscription. I love it. I get great ideas for our home.

People ~My weekly trash rag. I love it.

TV Guide ~Call me old fashioned. I still like reading in a book...what is going to be on tv

Via and Endless Vacations ~both are because of my affiliation with certain groups...AAA...and we own a Time Share.

My family gets: Teen People, Cosmo Girl, J-14, Sport Diver (and some other scuba magazine...I don't pay attention to these ).

MAXIM The best magazine ever!

Alex got a free subscription to this, so I've tried to read through cover to cover. For myself, I have to say honestly that I found Maxim to be the most unreadable, poorly written magazine I have ever come across. It seems to target an audience of 14-year-old boys with attention deficit. It has zero substance, and the photo spreads aren't even that good (no actual nudity, just lots of chessy tease). What I found particularly disappointing is that it seemed to promote every stereotype imaginable (positive or negative).

I seem to recall Maxim getting in hot water a few years back when they were busted for their "Best City in the U.S." issue, where they ranked as number 1 whatever city it was they distributed the copies of the magazines in. So someone in NYC would've gotten a copy that said NYC was the best city; San Francisco got one that said SF was, and so on. They got busted big time, and I think one of the editors (if not the editor-in-chief) resigned in disgrace.

They might have had some redeeming articles back then, but they certainly don't have any now. Apparently it is not geared towards anyone in my demographic group.

DBF, perhaps you can share with us what you think about Maxim that makes it so good. I myself am completely clueless.

Well, I'm not DBF, but I can tell you why I get Maxim. I like the fluff! It's not meant to be full of engaging content, it's just light hearted amusement. most of the stuff is relatively short and easy to read when I just need to fill a couple minutes here and there as opposed to a seriously informative mag that would require almost my entire lunch break to read just one article. And just to clarify things, it's not written for 14 year old boys, it's more college/20 something guys and girls (there are a lot of women who like the mag, and I'm not just talking about flipping through their boyfriend's copy, I'm talking subscribers). Also, you mentioned that there isn't even nudity, well that doesn't matter when it is mostly celebrity types who will never pose for actual nudes. for the chance to see them at all we don't mind a bit of teasing.

And I totally overpaid, I was feeling generous when some kid wanted to win a trip to hawaii...I kind of regret it b/c it's one giant book of ads...although I usually get magazines for the pictures and not the content, they're just all ads that I'm not interested in, men's board shorts and lots of scantily clad women.

I have to say I read Maxim once where they had a fake Glamour "article" about "how to please your man" or something and it said to cut it out and to sneak it into your girlfriend's glamour and it was formatted exactly like Glamour...genius!

Plus my b/f loves the funny signs one. We once took his photo outside of the Master Bait and Tackle shop in Florida b/c it reminded him of the Maxim photo gallery.
