MouseAdventure Questions

Okay, so I was telling my wife about my day, and since work is kind of slow right now, part of my day at work is spent lurking (and occasionally posting here and there) on the Pad, I was telling her about the upcoming MouseAdventure. I realized that although I am excited about it (whether I get to go or not, it is cool to hear the stories and the friendly competition), but I don't know that much about it.

The questions I have are:

What does MA consist of?

Does it last all day or are there breaks in between to, say, ride BTMM (and imagine that they are riding SM, too )

Also, the wife usually uses a wheelchair when we have alot of walking to do due to medical issues, are there others who compete in this way, or would it be more difficult to participate for those who roll?

Since we don't have AP's anymore, we want to do some traditional stuff along with the new fun of MA because of the cost involved. (Not that MA alone wouldn't be worth the cost!)

Here is something I copied from the official Mouse Adventure announcement.

What does the event involve?
MouseAdventure is continually evolving, and you are likely to encounter something new, even if you are a MouseAdventure veteran. Past events have included such activities as:

Eyespy photos Identify mystery pictures taken within the park
Trivia (usually optional) Test your knowledge of the Mouse with questions related to Disney minutiae.
Scavenger hunt Find, obtain, and retrieve various items
Quests Solve codes, logic puzzles, and other quizzicals and head off on your adventure in the park as you peel the layers that reveal the final answer of each quest. This is the core of the event.

Basically, you get "quests" which inolve going to places in and around Disneyland and soling codes, puzzles and the like to give you an answer. You get points for them based on their difficulty. While you are solving the quests, you also do the eyespye, trivia, and scavenger hunt. You get points for those, too. The team with the most points, wins.

Including check-in and the awards ceremony the whole even takes about 4 hours (maybe 5) of your day. There is a break between the event and the awards ceremony, so if you get a Big Thunder fast pass you will probably be able to ride it in the interim, or you can ride it after the awards ceremony.

I can't speak to if it is more difficult but I know people in wheelchairs have competed before.

Re: Wheelchair:

I think it depends on your attitude. In the way old days, I competed in a pre-cursor to MA while 8 mos pregnant, and my teammates pushed me in a hospital chair all day. One advantage was that I could read the trivia questions to my team while they walked, since I didn't have to pay attention to where I was going

We did have some challenges because, of course, we couldn't just cross the street anywhere we wanted to- we had to find the dip thing to roll down.

If your purpose is to come out and have a good time, you can definitely do that with a team member in a wheelchair. We try not to make you do too many things that would not be accessible in a chair.

Others may have more insight, but that's my 2 cents. Admittedly, I'm biased.

We have had MouseAdventure participants who used wheelchairs in past events. Although we make a conscious effort to design the event with access issues in mind, one of the more important things you should do at the time you register is to notify the event coordinator (Alex).

If you can afford both the time and cost, you might want to consider purchasing a multi-day pass, and spend a different day doing the traditional stuff. How much teams want to concentrate on the event is up to each team (that is, some teams who want to be very competitive will barely have time for a restroom break), most teams expect the event to be the focus of their day. The event is designed for the bulk of the teams to need the entire game time to complete the tasks, so if you want to spend time going on rides, you are almost guaranteed not to be able to complete them all. Again, that is up to you. The most important part, however, is to make sure to arrive back in time to turn your materials back in by the game's end.

I agree with Lani up to a point. You certainly cannot hope to do any attractions during the game. However, the park is open that day till 11pm, so you will definately have time after the awards ceremony to visit attractions and you will probably have time between the end of the game and the awards ceremony to visit one attraction (probably). That said, Mouseadventure makes you tired and might make you doubly tired if you push a wheelchair all day, so take that into consideration on how long you will be able to stay after.
